Headcanons I've been collecting from fanfics more or less

Someone can go ahead and give me other ones bc frankly I feel I've only been at the tip of the iceberg with the Arthur/Eames resurgence I'm having.... maybe much of this is common knowledge LOL

_ Eames. Eames is his last name. Some names I've seen used so far are Stuart, Edward, Charles, Cedirc... Not sure which are my favorite just yet, but I think the very posh ones are a nice surprise

Arthur as a last name is neat but I'm more attached to it as his first name

Arthur being a littttle bit taller bc of the height in his shoes. They're the same height though. Eames doesn't mind smirking up at him

Eames being 3-4 years older. Eames being surprised at the fresh faced young looking twenty one year old Arthur he first meets for their first job together, and being faintly surprised to see him settling into the clean, pin-striped suits the older he got.

I'm generally seeing 29 year old Arthur mentions so I'm assuming its bc of the 2010 JGL which makes sense!

Arthur as an older sibling to a sister. I quite like this one and idk if its the 500 Days of Summer influence showing. If canon compliant, I don't think they're very close anymore but she's just as smart as Arthur is.

But. I also very much like only child Arthur and I think it makes a lot of sense.

He has his mother's eyes. His father wasn't in the picture, either from job overworking or just... left!

Canon compliant; Arthur is in contact with his mother sometimes but rarely so as to not lead anything dangerous to her.

Eames sending her gifts of aged literature and hard to find manuscripts....

Meanwhile, Eames is declared legally dead!

His father is somewhere out there in the world, retired from his own dubious career

I feel crazy about Arthur's military background -> organization, tedious work pipeline.... That a boyish and hot-blooded for a thrill character lies underneath the frown everyone sees. For all the seriousness he carries, Arthur's sarcasm and wit and a silver of playfullness exists.... But its hidden, reserved for a select few colleagues.

Everyone knows Arthur is sharp and collected and unwittingly built with 10 different plans

But Eames is built with 11 extra backup plans. Despite the fact that Eames seems like the star of the all trickery, prepared for the action and combat-- at heart his mastery is in forgery, and despite all his charms and reading of people, his forgery and a history of "slipping away in the night quietly" as a thief... that is his brilliance, in his quiet careful plans.

TLDR: i like the depth in Eames not being 100% charming flirt playboy. The caution and avoidant side to him

The fact that there isn’t a whole fandom for Dungeon Crawler Carl amazes me. You got a screwed up main protagonist, a self centered adopted ‘daughter’ of the protag who gets major character development, and a shapeshifting begrudging father figure who is hopelessly attached to his kids.

Knowing tumblr that last guy alone would spark a whole fandom. Yall are thirsty as all heck and the daddy issues just do it for yall. Like he literally is an incubus for like a week. Yall go feral for that.

I know! I was devastated when I found zero Mordecai fanfiction.

What's crazy is that there is a rabid DCC fanbase, particularly on reddit and TikTok, but not very much fan fiction. Most fan content is art and cosplay currently.

Part of the issue I think, is that the dungeon itself isn't easy to write. The moment you step outside of Carl's canon journey, the amount of original content needed goes rapidly up in a way most other fandom's don't deal with. New enemies, new quests, new Elite storylines, etc. Which doesn't even hit on an effort to write something like a prequel about a different crawler, like Mordecai, where literally everything needs to be original.

The other thing I think is related, is that writing the Crawl is emotionally taxing. Unless you shift from Matt's portrayal and start to write it in a shallower representation, it is kind of draining to sit in that headspace.

one aspect of arthureames i really, really love, is that they’re both criminals.

there’s this unabashed hedonism, this lack of care for the pursuit of goodness and love of humanity. they’re both men who have carved out their space in the world and own it, men who have to be absurdly confident for their line of work. it’s in the way they hold themselves, from arthur’s careful enunciation and his proficiency with firearms, to eames’ casual, easy lying and command of his physical space. 

“that price on my head, was that dead or alive?” “don’t remember. see if he starts shooting.”

eames is very casually nonchalant about the idea of cobb dying, because, quite frankly, he doesn’t care. and arthur is essentially the same, with nash and with shooting projections in dreamscapes. 

i feel like, with most ships and most fandoms, a core component of the characters is that they’re “good people” (to varying definitions) and that they engage in this pursuit of joy and goodness. but arthur and eames aren’t like that. arthur follows cobb around the world when it’s pretty clear that he doesn’t have to, and it causes him pain. and eames does what he wants, however he wants. he enjoys making fun of people and his art is, literally lying. they’re not men preoccupied with their own place in this world, or how the chips will fall at the end of the day.

it’s not that they’re necessarily bad, or cruel people. arthur has kindness for ariadne and for yusef, he takes care of eames. and eames cares about saito, he takes into account his feelings/pain and he understands fisher’s wants. 

but in terms of the ship, i think it affects the fandom a lot because they’re not  criminals in the sense of like “mob boss, stealing and shooting and all that” but there’s something unmistakably criminal about what they do. they’re both men who have travelled the world, who don’t care about things most people do, like mortgages and pets and buying groceries. they fly in private helicopters and travel around the world on a whim, very easily. 

and the characters are portrayed as these men who live outside of society’s purview, because they don’t prescribe to following its laws and expectations. and arthureames highlights the importance of individual choices, of individual trust and love. i feel like, contrastly, other ships rely on this idea of like “you make me a better person” or similar sentiments. but neither arthur or eames really care about being good people. for them it’s more about this idea of “i am choosing you,” or “i am loving you because i want to, not because you change me.” 

they’re such singular people, who don’t give a shit about how people view them, that when they chose to be together, it’s just about them, and no one else.
