Tumblr’s Adult Content Ban - The Effect On Lower Surgery Blogs
I am sure you will have all heard by now, that as of the 17th December, Tumblr is increasing the security of its Platform and placing an outright ban on anything deemed to be of 'adult content'.
How will this affect people who blog about lower surgery?
Tumblr's decision is sad news for many reasons and makes me angry on so many different levels. However, the issue I want to focus on right now is n how this will affect my sharing of my lower surgery experiences, including the sharing of pictures and videos, here on my Tumblr blog.
I have received a lot of messages, asking what will happen, and whether Tumblr will remove my content. The truth is, I am not entirely sure, and I have been unable to get a straight answer from Tumblr. However, based on the guidelines that Tumblr have printed, it does look very likely that most of my content will be flagged as NSFW (not safe for work).
Tumblr states that it will not remove content but will make posts containing adult/inappropriate/NSFW content, private so only the blog host can see it. Tumblr also states that entire blogs deemed to be explicit will be allowed to continue to post, but only if they don’t violate the new terms and conditions.
No matter how they word it, it still amounts to effectively removing the ability to see my phalloplasty information. It looks as though I will not be able to post any new lower surgery pictures updates on here. I am also not sure if my written content, as it speaks in an explicit manner, will pass their censorship either. Therefore, it looks doubtful that I will be able to have any kind of candid lower surgery posts on Tumblr at all.
I will continue to do lower surgery update vlogs on my YouTube Channel. Though I am unable to go into as much detail on there or share explicit images, at least it is still an excellent resource for sharing experience and information. I expect these videos will be deemed as NSFW if I cross post them onto Tumblr, so if you haven’t already, please subscribe to my channel to continue to see my lower surgery diary videos.
This news is a low blow for our community, Tumblr has been a great information resource for me, and I know that posting my own content has been useful to a lot of people. It makes me sad and angry that this will now likely no longer be an option for us trans folk.
However, I will not stop sharing. I am not entirely sure how, or where I will continue to share, but I WILL find a way. I promise.
Just in case Tumblr does mute the entirety of my Tumblr blog next week, it's likely best that you cross over to my main website. If you subscribe to follow me there, I can keep you up to date in other ways, until I find another way to share picture updates with you. I can also answer any lower surgery questions over there if you message me via the 'contact' button.
Don’t worry folks, like a running stream that always finds its path forward, so shall we!
