Superhero comics are human stories told at superhuman scales, is it really a wonder that the story of Jason and Bruce reads like that of an assault and inadequate response?

Joker is a man in your community who hurts people. He keeps hurting people no matter how your community tries to punish him or disincentive him. He hurts strangers, he hurts friends, and eventually he hurts you.

Your father is the most influential person in this community- something like the headmaster of a school or pastor of the local church or even the patriarch of a large family. You expect that after this man has hurt so many people, targeting you would be the last straw.

It’s not. Bruce can’t cross the line. Can’t exile him, can’t expel him, can’t excommunicate him, can’t disown him. Because everyone is redeemable. Because he can’t ruin a student’s future. Because the Lord’s grace must reach the troubled. Because family sticks together.

No instead it’s your own fault. You knew he was dangerous so why did you allow him near? Reckless and impulsive and asking for trouble. It’s your disobedience to your father that caused this, and if there is a person deserving of pity here it is him, because he is the only blameless one.

No his guilt isn’t narcissistic self-flagellation it is indicative of his nobility and selflessness! To demand that he act, to ask him to betray his deep convictions- that would be selfish! Overemotional to the point of irrationality even.

Don't worry. Your attention-grabbing, leg-revealing outfit has been put on display so everyone can be reminded that you asked for it, and the other children will cover their ankles and obey their father from now on. The man preying on your community hurt you because you tempted him. You went after him, you allowed yourself to be alone with him, you treated things like a game.

Rest assured the other children know how to behave so as not to provoke him. They've all spent time around him, and he never hurt them like he hurt you. The problem was you, and the problem has been fixed.
