O_O
I think the only reason gender proponents see giving blood as a rights thing they get to complain about (and it has come up a few times) is because, again, they’re co-opting the gay rights movement. Gay men used to be universally banned from giving blood cause, you know, AIDS, and that was eventually seen as homophobic because as it turned out AIDS doesn’t only effect gay men.
So all I can think people like this figure is, well if they refuse to take my blood then that’s transphobic! It’s the same rights issue!
Except it’s fucking NOT because male and female DNA is demonstrably different. And it doesn’t matter how much hormones you dose or how much surgery you have you can’t change your DNA.
So if you don’t want to go in “stealth” only to have them discover your actual sex anyway, because you can see that in DNA, then either be honest or DON’T GIVE BLOOD.
Only some kind of narcissist would turn giving blood into such a selfish act.
A lot of women need blood transfusions after giving birth, what kind of problems could added testosterone cause to a body that has just experienced the hormonal clusterfuck that is 9 months of pregnancy, followed by labor and birth? And then there’s the bonus-round of hormonal fuckery known as breastfeeding and postpartum recovery; how might synthetic testosterone affect these two experiences (which are already difficult enough on women)?
For that matter, what would be the dangers of giving testosterone tainted blood to any woman? Do we know? I’m guessing it would have the same effect as the patient actively taking very low levels of synthetic testosterone, which is not something a woman would want to deal with, especially after suffering whatever trauma caused her to need a blood transfusion in the first place.
Good point.
So if you’ve made the personal decision to take artificial hormones to be your “authentic self” then sure, great, whatever, that is your choice.
It’s an important practice but you don’t have to give blood. Especially if your blood is not actually going to be helpful. So what was the point of Joel here doing it other than to get called out and have a reason to self-righteously complain? All it did was waste everyone’s time.
For anyone interested, I tracked down what I imagine the link they provided to be. Let me quote the FDA on trans patients:
The FDA’s recommendation to blood establishments is that in the context of the donor history questionnaire, male or female gender should be self-identified and self-reported for the purpose of blood donation.
The FDA is supporting this woman. The FDA is saying that you’re allowed to self-ID on blood donation forms which have the potential to harm the people who end up receiving the blood.
But I agree with the comments above: until such time that we can deem it safe for blood with synthetic hormones to be given to anyone via a blood transfusion then trans people on HRT need to be taken off donation lists.
I actually looked it up on the NHS blood donation site (just search HRT) and it doesn’t say anything about trans patients, only about patients who are taking this for menopause and osteoporosis (which I imagine is much, much lower doses than trans people take). Donating blood is not a human right you’re entitled to. It’s for people who are eligible and they have every single right to ‘gatekeep’ if they have a reasonable justification behind it because people’s lives are at risk.
Who dug up this train wreck of discourse and why did you think it was a good idea. They test blood. Chill.
Yes, and what will they do if the blood turns out to have female antibodies and a male testosterone level?
But alright, let’s make it very simple: if you lie on your intake form (like this sorry little individual did), your blood is tossed and you are banned.
How’s that? Fair enough?
Furthermore: why should her feelings matter more than my life? More than my health?
Y’all want some more fuckery? The FDA does not approve blood from gay men unless they have been abstinent for a a year, but if a gay man says he is a Trans Woman then his sexual history is *suddenly* irrelevant. But if you are a Trans Man (female) and you have sex with men, you are treated like a gay man, and must abstain from sex for a year.
IN SHORT: if your relationships appear to be heterosexual (even though it’s homosexual), its fine. If your relationship appears to be homosexual (even if it’s heterosexual), it’s punished.
It’s blatant homophobia on the FDA’s part. They are rewarding people who simulate heterosexuality, and punishing people who simulate homosexuality.

I just saw a video of Britney Spears tearing apart a group of men who called her body guard the n word. He had to hold her back because her knee jerk reaction was to maul them like a mama bear on the loose. And then she walks away while holding a comforting hand on his back.
I’ll never not stan her. Catch me playing Lucky at my funeral bitch.
I literally just saw the video and she was really about to whoop ass ON SIGHT no hesitation.

Happy Pride! Know your history!
Proper pissed that that charity and the Sun through them are painting Joe on Love Island as an abuser based on a few minutes of heavily edited reality television. Ex-islanders have committed suicide and they want him to exit the villa to this? It would be destroying, and this slander is probably going to ruin his career and relationships. We shouldn’t be diagnosing situations and making the jokes we are about anyone on Love Island, given that we know people aren’t always in the best place afterwards, and given that we should have some decency.
On this note, evidently they like each other and tonight's vote out has made me very sad

The way the queer community turned on lesbians first really is proof that nothing has changed
Me and my friends oppressing asexuals at pride by wearing provocative clothing and kissing
Just deleted the asexual section of the lgbt related slurs on Wikipedia 🤪🤪🤪
literally who tf cares
Your a hero
True genius may I say
A black, asexual, cis heteroromantic woman– ace because she survived rape– shows up in a queer safe space because she feels unsafe elsewhere.
Aphobic Reactionaries: Get out of here you homophobic, transphobic scum!!! You’re trying to colonize our spaces!! You’re trying to desexualize us!! YOU’RE OPPRESSING US!!!
why do you guys always try to bring up a hypothetical ace who looks like that (i.e. black, female, rape survivor) when the real figureheads of your entire movement are david jay and julie decker (i.e. white, straight, not rape survivors)– oh right, it’s because you’re all idiots who can’t even engage with your own history, let alone the history of the LGBT coalition.
but aside from that– what safe space is this woman trying to access? a support group for female rape survivors at a big city LGBT center? is she browsing the self-help section at one of the few remaining LGBT bookstores? attending an anorexic-focused meeting of SLAA marked LGBT-friendly? hanging out at the castro country club and having a latte by herself?
look, you could only bring up this hypothetical if you are totally unfamiliar with how these spaces work in real life! there is no gatekeeping that happens! there are no “GayIDs” and no one to check them! an ace dude could show up to my weekly A.A. meeting for HIV+ gay men and everybody would just assume that he’s gay and HIV+, because why else would he be there? an ace woman attending a support group for lesbian survivors of rape will be assumed to be a lesbian survivor of rape!
and when they inevitably get up and clarify that they are not those things, the response will be “well… ok, then why are you here?” with an undercurrent of “this person is probably closeted” because these groups are almost totally self-selecting. this fear you idiots have of being chased out of real-world spaces is a self-indulgent persecution fantasy.
what people like me are doing is ASKING you not to come to our spaces because they are not for you, because we otherwise have NO MECHANISMS FOR EXCLUDING YOU. fuck, we can’t even keep literal straight people from celebrating their marriages at our bars!
it is so painfully, excruciatingly obvious that they mean ‘high school or college GSAs’ when they say “safe space,” like, how are you supposed to have this conversation with someone who has literally zero life experience except being a shitty sheltered teenager slowly realizing the world doesn’t revolve around them?
Also i just want to say when people have revealed themselves to be straight/cis in lgbt groups that are there specifically to support marginalized people who have no where else to go, there is a quiet sense of betrayal. You were privy to very vulnerable conversations and truths and highly personal stories under the assumption that you had some kind of common experience or at least a shared cultural literacy or your own experience of the same social vulnerability. You are making everyone feel endangered by your voyeurism.
And im glad the above comment brought up AA because AA has specific closed meetings that mean “if you’re not an alcoholic, don’t attend.” Which is highly important to protect the anonymity and wellbeing of alcoholics in vulnerable positions of recovery and honesty from outsiders who don’t understand or aren’t sharing the same vulnerability and risk of honesty and exposure. That’s just…expected in many aa circles. Yet lgbt people are “gate keeping” for wanting to retain safe closed groups. ?????

stop the erasure. your phobias are not our fucking fault.
edit: guys, i have tried to explain what this design is for, and y'all keep deliberately misunderstanding, so the explanation is gone because it was pointless apparently. This design is for me, and for others like me i personally feel are consistently erased in the community. i got sick of never seeing myself represented, so i made a design for me, and for others i personally feel are not represented or misrepresented. if you don’t like it, don’t share it, but if you come into the comments and bitch about it, i’m blocking you.
listen if you’re a woman who’s exclusively attracted to men or a man who’s exclusively attracted to women, you’re straight, you’re what the word straight exists to describe, i’m sorry to be the one to tell you this but you’re going to have to learn to cope with the terrible burden of being straight and not experiencing homophobic oppression, i think you’ll make it through somehow tho
I feel like this is aimed at asexuals and I don’t like it.
it’s aimed at straight people but if the shoe fits ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
