fucked up supernatural au (no hunting) where dean is a fire fighter but he is also the one setting most fires. cliche but also funny i think. manchausen syndrome, but for fire related problems. putting people in situations so he can get them out of them so he can feel like he's saving his mother. but like he can never go back and his mother is dead forever and he's literally playing with fire and things will go south idk how but you know..could be fun.

like this is the inciting incident in the fic. he has killed his brother's girlfriend. usually when he's setting these fires he'll make it look like it's an accident and then he saves the people and he's like fine he's normal. (idk about arson laws anywhere but I'm guessing bc he's the guy who is going to have the control over what it's lodged as anyway so he's like this was an accident. or he's familiar enough w the whole process that he knows how to cheat the system.) (also why is he setting Sam's house on fire? idk! maybe he didn't even do it on purpose! maybe they're estranged and in his delulu head he's like what if I save him from the fire like when he was a baby and then we can be besties like back then. we will trauma bond over this! who knows! not me!)

anyway. now this woman is dead. and dean is also actually legit retraumatized. like bc you have to remember. he's still a poor little meow meow. he IS saving people. he's just also the one putting them in danger BUT LIKE HE WASN'T *TRYING* TO HURT ANYONE!! he cares that these people get out save and alive!! that's kind of the whole point of this. he needs them to come out and BE OKAY. but this did not happen here.

and then there's sam who is now going crazy in a completely different way. he's obsessing over what went wrong and dean's like accidents happen accidentally sometimes probably a gas leak or sth and sam is like DEAN NO. and then he thinks about his mom and he's like im connecting the dots (dean, sweating, nervous: you aren't connecting shit.) I'm connecting them.

anyway. i think it should spiral from there and sam should try to kill dean about it. it would be sooooooo extra too. dramatic and extra and too much. you could put them in a burning building and have them yell at each other like YOU NEED THERAPY! and NO SAM! YOU NEED TO EAT A CHEESEBURGER AND BE NORMAL!

like idk how to give this loosey goosey idea substance but you know. you can even do a happy ending. you can even put cas in there and make everyone go to therapy and everything. but you know. whatever. whateverrrr.

i changed my mind I don't want cas to be there for a happy ending I think he should be a little freak who is just obsessed w dean bc of his arsoning and his being a closetcase. he is like literally the only one who put together what dean has been doing all this time (no he is not in any way involved in law enforcement or anything. idk how he came across dean tho like maybe there was a fire near him at one point? hmmm. not the point. he has some interesting backstory that will pop in and out of the fic but idk what it is yet feel free to chime in at any time.) and like he doesn't turn dean in. I think he might have wanted to at some point, but then he's just SO FASCINATED by this guy bc he really doesn't kill anyone and he actually does also put himself in danger 10/10 times when he's saving them and he doesn't make sense and that is SO INTERESTING to cas. he's like those fangirls who used to write letters to richard ramirez when he was in prison like omg you are soooo hot and mysterious and also tell me about your religion and satan etc.,

i think dean and him meet at a point before the jessica thing..maybe cas even gets trapped in one of the fires bc he's a freak and a stalker and he's testing his theory or whatever. and dean saves him. or better yet, cas saves dean! (for canon parallelisms) dean remembers him as this like. super attractive dude and also for the sap in me maybe he gets scared for the first time when he almost misses cas (bc he's hiding in some corner bc. again. freak and stalker.) and like maybe they see each other from across the flames (HOLY SHIT THIS IS A HELL PARALLEL AAAAHH!) and like dean almost dies trying to get to cas bc idk structural issues in the house or whatever and then cas pulls dean out of the fire and then dean is a little obsessed w cas now bc when he wakes up no one knows who saved him bc cas slipped away and now dean's like left w this vague memory of blue eyes and a strong jaw and all that.

and i think post the jess manslaughter, cas and dean end up in a situation™ together bc of something dean is doing to evade sam and also keep him from discovering the truth and then they have this whole s4destielesque dynamic where dean is super wary of cas and cas is super fascinated with dean and they're telling each other things and getting each other out of trouble. like dean doesn't recognise cas right away but sth about him seems familiar. and cas on the other hand is just 👁️👄👁️. whatever situation put them together has sth to do with dean's whole thing so there's really no secrets from moment #1 and cas can tell dean that he's been watching dean actually and dean's like oh shit oh fuck are you gonna turn me in and cas is like hnmm. no. I don't think so. and dean's like wtf. but he also secretly LOVES that someone is so obsessed w him and is like. paying attention to him (honestly a lot of the shit in dean's head is like that bc he doesn't have anyone who pays attention to him forreal. like actually looking to see him ykwim?). and he's like asking him questions and maybe also helping him etcs., anyway it kinda spirals from there..yes they start developing feelings almost instantly. no idk if/when they will hookup and how awful it's gonna be someone else do that part for me. also!! importantly!! while this is going on, dean's entire life is unraveling in the background btw. like the destiel of it all is basically a subplot but yk.

anyway idk how he would factor into the ending. like what is cas going to do. idk. maybe he saves dean somehow. maybe they both end up in a bad state. maybe they thelma and louise it or whatever. idk. but whatever it is, it would be SO FUN lol.

ANYWAY.

I think it could be that cas meets dean bc he's like an insurance guy and he fucking hates his job btw and like one of the buildings that burnt down hires him and he's like this is so sus and then it kinda unravels from there for him. Zachariah can even be his boss! he's always some fucking corporate middle management guy in these fics.

The thing about Destiel is that although they have so many beautiful, purposefully written moments, some of the most profound things about them are just pure accident. Dean calls Castiel “Cas” not knowing that the suffix “iel” literally means “of God.” He calls him Cas because he wants to give him a nickname and he unknowingly removes God’s ownership from him. Just imagine that. When your very name binds you in obedience to an absent father. You follow orders and you’re a good little soldier because what other choice do you have? You are of God and the sum of your millennia long existence is to do His work, to be His minion. You rescue a soul from Hell because you’re commanded to and then you watch over him even though he has no respect for divine order and always asks too much of you. And somewhere along the way he calls you Cas because he thinks Castiel is a mouthful and you know you should be irritated but you can’t be because Cas has no binding, no ownership. Dean calls you Cas and it almost feels like he’s tempting you, offering you a life when you’re not of God but of yourself. So you Fall for him and maybe you fall for him, and one day you’re working a case with him and Sam and one of them says “Cas” and you realize that you were wrong. Cas is just as binding as Castiel. It bound you to them.
