Civility in American politics has never existed, don’t let anyone trick you into thinking it does.

Growing up gay, I constantly had to hear politicians proclaim that gays are going to hell because of their “degenerate” lifestyle. Even today, the vice president is a notorious homophobe who has supported the torture of LGBT Americans. Black Americans have been portrayed as an “enemy” by conservatives during the whole of this country’s history and are described as “terrorists” when fighting for basic human rights. If a black person dies to police violence, conservatives will try to find an excuse to justify it and say they “deserved it”. The current president started his 2016 campaign by proclaiming that Latinos are “murderers” and “rapists”, and now oversees their death and suffering in his prisons.

Now the president is sick with a deadly disease he has downplayed for the last 8 months. The same conservatives who have dehumanized every minority in this country are now calling for civility, a civility they have not afforded to the rest of us. Do not allow yourself to fall for it. Conservatives have only ever cared about civility if it’s one of their own, so don’t feel bad about forgoing civility at this time. After all 45 has done, it’s okay to have some schadenfreude.

I love how the body structure and the decor of the larger bone fairy creates a nice area of concentration that leads the viewer’s eye towards the tooth fairy. This, aside from the obvious glow and design contrast, help direct the attention where needed and is a brilliant move by the artist.
