Regulus is a saver.
He hates spending unnecessary money, especially when it could be saved with a little extra effort.
This is how he find himself in a pizza shop on a Friday night, waiting to pick up the order Sirius insisted on placing. Because he would rather die than pay the extra ten pounds for delivery.
Of course, when he makes his way to the counter, he realizes that his stinginess had more than one perk this particular evening.
At the counter stands a boy his age, but at least a foot taller, with messy brown hair and glasses; tan skin and beautiful eyes that make Regulus feel a bit dazed. His smile is stunning and his nametag that reads 'James' has a pink, yellow, and blue flag pinned to it. When he looks up and sees Regulus standing there, he does a clear double-take.
"Hi! Hi- erm- hi!" He stutters, looking a bit flustered. Regulus smirks a bit. "How can I help you?"
"Order for Sirius," Regulus says, still smiling a bit. He's not staring. Much.
"Serious? Like the emotion?" James asks, laughing, eyebrows raised.
"Like the star," Regulus corrects.
James makes an impressed face. "Named after a star. Much cooler than my name." He jabs his thumb at his nametag.
"It's actually my brother's name. I'm Regulus," Regulus says, inclining his head, "but...I'm named after a star, too." He's not really sure why he volunteers this information, but he's too enamored by James to care much.
"Regulus," James says softly, as if savoring the word. Regulus wants to blush. "Nice to meet you. I'll-erm...I'll get your order, yeah?"
Regulus nods, though he's not sure he wants to leave quite yet.
It seems to take James some time to get his order ready, and when he does, James slowly processes the payment, throwing him many grins and nervous looks. But neither of them say anything other than the normal pleasantries, and Regulus is a bit disappointed and frustrated with his cowardice to leave without anything happening of note.
Until he gets home and Sirius rips into the pizza only to yell from the kitchen, "Reg! What the- who the fuck is James?!"
And when he comes in to see what the commotion is about, he sees it written on the inside of the pizza box:

today i laid in bed with my best friend, on the same sides we picked 15 years ago, while i read on my phone, the exact same way you would’ve found us on any weekend 12 years ago. for dinner i made the same recipe my mother taught us when we weren’t even teens yet, one that we’ve both added to over the years but at its core stays the same, just the same way we both have.
we’re the same 11 year olds we once were, we’re the same 14 year olds we once were, we’re the same 18 year olds we once were. and one day, i’ll be looking back in another 15 years and find we’re the same 25 year olds we are now.
Tbh, if James and Regulus were in a secret relationship or a friends with benefits thing, I don’t think James would mind it. People not knowing? Exciting. Best friends little brother? Scandalous. But the fact that Regulus Black wants to keep him all to himself? James would be giggling and kicking his goddamn feet girl he’d feel so special—
Barty calling Evan “princess” as a joke long before anything happens between them because Evan can be pretty high maintenance at times (his jewelry has to be a certain kind of silver, he takes his tea a very specific way, he doesn’t like forks that only have three prongs, etc). Then when they start, ahem, doing things (each other), the pet name gets a whole new connotation. Especially when Regulus is out for the night and they have the room to themselves.
