OP: LJ @cock-holliday, over 30. Been out as queer since 2011. Been out as not-cis since 2015. And been out as genderfluid since 2020.

A lot of the old genderfluid-positivity accounts are dead, deactivated, or sparse. I wanted to make a page that's not just about countering exorsexism or reminding people we exist. I want people to be able to find others like them, feel seen through the stories of others, and to be able to concentrate celebration of our identities into one space.

RULES

This is specifically genderfluid but is absolutely not exclusive to other nonbinary identities. I also call myself bigender and nonbinary depending on my audience, and consider us all not even just allies but all under the same not-binary umbrella.

People questioning their identity or wishing to understand gender-fluidity are welcome

Asks and submissions are welcome: share euphoric stories, ask questions, and feel free to vent negative experiences--though note that the purpose of this blog is not just (or even primarily) a vent space.

Been kinda busy lately but I wanted to share a story from going to pride. My city had our pride the other day and I really wanted to present in a way that reflected genderfluidity a bit better. Last year I wore a shirt my wife got me about using any pronouns but this year I wanted to do something different.

So what I did was have a full beard on one half of my face and then shave with full face makeup on the other half. Parted my long hair down the side and since I have an undercut, the shaved part would be visible on the beard side and not so much on the makeup side. And it rocked!

I was really nervous about it. One, I didn't want it to look goofy, two, it's very stark contrast. And I got approached by more people than I ever have at pride before. Intrigue, compliments, so much interaction. And from such unlikely sources too. Very corporate older woman, young folks, queer couples--a woman even gave me some "feedback" that I ought to have swapped which side was which because one side of the body is more associated with masculinity and the other with femininity and I had done the "opposite."

Wish I could say that was intentional, but ah, guess I am subverting even that lady's expectations.

Was really inspired by those like solo duets where performers dress half as a guy and half as a woman and turn side to side to play both roles, except it was my own facial hair.

I really do wish beards were not such a deciding factor for how people gender you, and have done makeup with a beard before, but people are very quick to give you a "they" and not venture so far as to she/her you, and I wanted to show the contrast in one go.

And it went really well.

Specialest of shoutouts to all my nonbinary, genderfluid, genderqueer, agender and other genderweird folks navigating queer spaces that love to sort you into boxes. May we all bust out of them and be celebrated for it.

Genuinely though it is so frustrating that nonbinary rights and exorsexism are not treated seriously at all, even from within the queer community. It sucks that there's not even an option for an X gender marker in so many countries, including in more progressive queer-friendly ones. It sucks that if enben want to get gender affirming care that we're advised to lie about our gender (or lack thereof) in favour of a more binary trans identity lest we jump through a million extra hoops on top of the million already in place for binary trans people to prove we're serious in order to get the care we want/need. It sucks that in most cases we're still forced into some kind of binary and I wish that the issues we deal with were acknowledged more.

There ARE some defunct or barely-posting genderfluid joy accounts, which is why I made this account--I would very much like to fill the gap.

Genderfluid joy, a place for people to ask questions (for understanding themselves or others), a spot to concentrate resources and books and media--all of it!

While this account is not FOR the purpose of venting, it can also be a space for that too. It can be very isolating and it is often difficult for various nonbinary identities to find a home in trans spaces that prioritize binarization, and I would love for people to be able to connect over shared experience, be it negative or positive--but then push for greater ability to seek out joy.

There's a...cis? guy my wife knows who thinks--or thought--I was a cis man, but he's been quietly exploring gender fuckery and my wife keeps like telling him the things I do and present as and he's been so fascinated and open to exploring more. My wife has been amazing and gentle with him in helping him try things out, but I only recently found out he's been so fascinated with ME and has been watching what I do to see what he can try for himself.

Trying to coax him into going to pride with us and going all out on the gender fuckery in front of him but not looking at him too directly and scaring him off

Once, when my presentation began to shift in the "opposite" binary direction while I was in law school, a classmate/colleague I worked with waited until after a lecture to slowly come up after me. She looks at me and goes "can I ask you a personal question...?"

I've had that exact phrase asked of me many times over the course of my fluctuating gender journey, but she was nice and I was feeling open so I laughed and said sure. Then she goes

"Have your...um...pronouns recently changed?"

Funniest way I've ever been politely asked about my gender.

My partner got me a genderfluid flag bracelet (two actually, so I swap out when I clean the other so it can dry) and I wear it all the time. The genderfluid flag is one that's so obscure that it really only gets recognized by other queer people and very few of them, so the only people I'm ever outing myself to by wearing it are 1. people who know (small amount) 2. people who go huh? which one is that? and look it up (probably even smaller amount)

Story 2: a friend of ours who is queer asked what flag it was and I had a brief moment where I wasn't sure about coming out to her, but then did, and it was well-received. I haven't verbally come out to many people about being genderfluid in the last few years, it is either unspoken communication through my own behavior or I'm stealth one way or another. It was nice to be met with curiosity and familiarity when I came out.

Story 3: Saw that friend again recently and a phone game of hers allowed for your character to have pride flags, and she showed me she had given her character the genderfluid flag because she thought of me.
