spot on. it bugs me when ppl who are opposed to zionism make it an entirely “white/ashkenazi” problem bc like. y’all. sephardim and mizrahim in israel tend to be extremely zionist. they also tend to hold a lot of anti arab bias bc of their experiences being violently expelled from arab countries. is it right to have those biases? no. but it’s understandable given what they went through, the majority of them within their or their parents’ lifetimes. itamar ben-gvir is not a “white eastern european ashkenazi colonizer” he’s a brown jew whose parents are iraqi kurdish, and he’s arguably one of the most extremist right-wing leaders in israel right now. he’s a straight up kahanist. he makes netanyahu look like a centrist. so all the ppl who are like “just ship all the white jews back to poland and balance will be restored!!” are just revealing how little they actually know about israel and the real issues there, let alone how to fix them. if you want arab-jewish relations in the area to improve, you have to acknowledge the deep seated trauma and resentment that’s been festering in the sephardi/maghrebi/mizrahi jews of israel whose experiences are repeatedly erased, ignored, denied, and still ongoing, and you have to stop thinking of this shit through the leftist american lens of “white people inherently bad and racist, brown people inherently good and righteous.” most of the time trauma does not make you better, it just fucks you up.

I play High Honor Arthur almost every time, but one thing I appreciate about Low Honor Arthur is he doesn't fool himself with what Dutch is becoming. When Arthur and Charles are riding to save Eagle Flies, Low Honor Arthur straight up tells Charles that he's only sticking around to rob Dutch of some of his money. I'm pretty sure he also tells John right before the final train mission that he plans to use that money to go west and retire (possibly find a sanatorium???). Low Honor Arthur still wants to fight against what's happening. High Honor Arthur accepts his death, which does make him a better person some ways, but I feel like it still keeps him delusional towards Dutch. Arthur has made peace with his and the gang's end, so he thinks maybe Dutch will, too.

Important hot tip for literally anyone purchasing art

If an artist you rly like doesn’t have a public commission sheet or perhaps you have an odd but reasonable request your best friend will be “I will gladly compensate you for your time.” Literally the moment an artist sees that you’re actually going to pay them for whatever weird request you’ve got, they’re like a million percent more likely to respond positively to whatever your weird request is. For example: I love birds, and I was seeking out a nice state bird cross stitch pattern that wasn’t too complicated. I found one I liked on Etsy, but it was actually selling the finished product (a gorgeous quilt for about $2000) and not the charts, which was what I wanted. No problem! I messaged the seller and said “hi! I love your beautiful quilt, but I am actually interested in the cross stitch charts. Do you still have them? I would be more than happy to compensate you for the trouble.” I have no doubt that this lovely woman has been demanded for free labor countless times. It has happened to every quilter on planet earth. She told me that she would mail me HER ORIGINAL HANDWRITTEN CHARTS for about $30, since she drafted them herself and wasn’t planning on making another quilt. I gladly sent $50 her way and told her she could just scan them for me if that was easier for her. Artists are, by and large, lovely people who want to help you. Please, just promise them that you will fucking compensate them for their time and labor.

How is hostage worse than slave?

Hostage is a temporary situation. Hostage is something someone can negotiate you out of.

American Slavery was so much worse than hostage. There was no escape not just for you but your family and all their descendents.

No one takes you hostage and then says by the way, your children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren are also going to be hostages.

But that's how American Slavery worked.

Yes, we absolutely need to be more clear about the brutality of Slavery in America and use percise terminology, but that starts with making sure people understand that Slavery was NOT indentured servitude. Slavery was not people working in exchange for a place to live and food to eat. Slavery was not a house servant. A slave was not a hostage.

Hostage is also not justified by race. The whole mental rational for slavery is so much sicker, darker, and rot at the core of our country than the word hostage can ever imply.

If you asked do I want to be a hostage or do I want to be a Slave in the American South I would pick hostage 100% of the time, because even if I don't get freed and get killed *it still only affects me* choosing Slave means my children and their children and their children are also now slaves.

We do NOT need to find a word more horrible than Slave.

We need to remind people that Slave IS horrific.

We need to de-sanitize the word Slavery.

Also, slavery us not an old antiquated word. There are still slaves.

If the word Slave is not evoking horror in people, and making people think "only something that happened in the past" we have a big problem.

And the inclusion of plantations as "Death camps" honestly feels like Holocaust inversion/minimization. The plantations were slave labor camps, which would be the appropriate term for them. They weren't designed to kill as many people as efficiently as possible like Auschwitz was. Both horrific atrocities, but completely different.

It's an overall bizarre post.
