Once on IMDB I saw a “goof” which was that during a scene set in India(?), the light flicker was at the wrong frequency (in hertz). I wish I knew what movie it was to show you guys, I want to say it was some Marvel shit.
I always wondered how this person knew that. Was there an amazing Indian electrician who just instinctively felt the flicker rate was off? Did they go frame by frame and count the flickers per second?
I wanna say that was Tenet?

Happy Labor Day. Today I learned about probably the first strike to happen IN SPACE.
“We would never work 16 hours a day for 84 straight days on the ground, and we should not be expected to do it here in space.“
The day when three NASA astronauts staged a strike in space (Hiltzik, LA Times)

Hundreds of workers at Nabisco bakeries across the country are on strike over a proposal to change their work shifts and health care benefit
Hundreds of union employees at three U.S. Nabisco bakeries that make Oreo and Chips Ahoy cookies and Ritz Crackers have gone on strike to protest proposed changes amid contract negotiations with parent company Mondelez International, Inc.
Approximately 200 workers at a factory in Portland, Oregon, have been on strike for two weeks and were joined on Monday by about 400 employees at Nabisco's bakery in Richmond, Virginia. On Thursday, workers at Nabisco's bakery in Chicago also walked off the job to go on strike.
Employees at a sales distribution center in Aurora, Colorado, also joined the strike on Aug. 12. All of the workers on strike are members of the Bakery, Confectionery, Tobacco Workers, and Grain Millers International Union, which announced the Chicago strike on Thursday.
"This fight is about maintaining what we already have," Mike Burlingham, vice president of BCTGM Local 364 in Portland, told TODAY Food. "During the pandemic, we all were putting in a lot of hours, demand was higher, people were at home, and the snack food industry did phenomenally well.
"Mondelez made record profits and they want to thank us by closing two of the U.S. bakeries (last month) and telling the rest of us we have to take concessions, what kind of thanks is that? We make them a lot of money. It's very disheartening. How is that supposed to make us feel?"
The union is in the midst of negotiating a new four-year contract with Mondelez after the previous one expired in May.
Union leaders say that Mondelez has proposed switching from eight-hour shifts, five days a week, to 12-hour shifts, three or four days a week, without overtime, and with increased mandatory work on weekends without extra pay.
Don't let them go the way of Hostess.
Oh man, this is gonna be messy. I’ve said it loads of times in both fantasy and real life, and it always rings true : you NEVER cross the bakers’ guild.
Read up on the New York bagel famines. Bagel Bakers Local 338 practically brought the city to a standstill back in the day.
If you also didn’t hear, Danny DeVito got unverified briefly by Twitter for voicing solidarity with the union. Dan Rather got involved. It’s messy. Don’t cross the line if you can.
No contracts. No snacks.
A strike can only go on as long as its strike fund is deep. Workers have set up a GoFundMe - if you can, support them in solidarity!
Starting August 10, 2021, BCTGM Local 364 in Portland, OR is on strike against Nabisc… Cameron Taylor needs your support for BCTGM Local
when people in cold areas tell people in deserts like phoenix arizona to just take a cold shower during the summer to stay cold
the water is hot babyyyyyy!!!
the most fucked up part i think about houses in places like phoenix on top of the water permanently being fire during the summer is if it does actually get cold in the area for any amount of time they put all their hot water heaters outside, so you will get like a minute of hot water and then the water is freezing.
another thing I noticed is, if it has several days of good rain all the roofing of businesses and houses just fucking cave in.
they straight up have people living in cardboard homes. they made them all as cheap as possible out of the worst materials for the area and are in absolutely no way energy efficient.
most housing that exists in these areas just straight up shouldnt exist. theyre terrible for the environment and horrible to live in

I dont really care if you use the term bisexual or pansexual, but what i DO care about is that you understand that bisexuality at NO stage in history was EVER trans-exclusionary. Bisexuality has always included trans folks, and non-binary folks, and the entire spectrum of gender between male and female, as well as Definitively Gender and agender. It has ALWAYS meant "attraction to more than one gender." It has NEVER meant "attraction to cis men and women only."
So, pan, bi, use whichever label you will. But do NOT buy into the recent-years innacurate concept that bisexuality is attraction to cis men and women only, because thats literally never been the case.
@brassmama exactly.
^^ Like. Its literally right there in the middle of the flag.
And by contrast, this is what the pan flag colours mean:
So literally its just......
bi colours = "same gender, opposite gender, and other genders"
pan colours = "men, women, and nb people."
Those two things are...... not all that different to each other.
The purple has always, literally since the flag was created, meant "more genders."
And bisexuality included "more genders" in the definition before the bi flag was created, too. Thats why they included the purple bar in the first place, because it was reflective of bisexual people's attraction to and relationship with gender.
If you feel that pansexual suits you better, or you like the pan flag more, then thats fine -- but don't spread the misconception that bisexuality is remotely exclusionary. Because its literally never been.

what does it mean to be an active class traitor to white people? how does someone do that? /gen /not mad
It means to reject whiteness as a concept and identity and actively doing things to help dismantle white supremacy. It means using your privilege to protect poc no matter what. It means holding white people around you accountable for their racism, even for small acts of racism like micro aggressions. It means putting time and energy into combating your unconscious bias and the unconscious bias of those around you. It means giving us tangible support, whether it be money or your time and energy. You have to put your whole self into helping us fight against white supremacy and you have to do it loudly and enthusiastically no matter the cost.
The concept of allyship seems to revolve around just saying the right things these days but being a race traitor is about action. It’s about putting your money where your mouth is. I view allyship as a passive act and being a race traitor is an overt act. I hope this makes sense!
Can I also add, because I find this is a CRUCIAL factor that is not discussed enough in leftist spaces: rejecting your whiteness yes, on the one hand means inverting the privilege conferred and actively working against it BUT ALSO IT MEANS RECONNECTING WITH YOUR PRECOLONIAL LINEAGE ‘white’ is a concept like ‘black’ is a concept and both of them erase ethnocultural roots. One of the biggest drivers of white violence in the world is, from the perspectives of the peoples it violates- that white people do not know who they are and to fill this void engage in appropriation and such of cultures and people that would give them a sense of meaning and place. If you’re white, you’re majority european. If you REALLY want to do the work, PLEASE reconnect with your ancestral histories and traditions. This resolves a LOT of the inner turmoil that actively eats away at your ability to be a strong emotionally stable and flexible member of the global community. Allyship means doing your shadow work tbh. Colonization and the creation of whiteness first required incredible violence done against indigenous people IN EUROPE and there is trauma that needs to be addressed there and if you actually DO that you can also reap the benefits of ancestral strength and tradition.
It’s actually not enough to just be like ‘im white and that’s bad’ or focus outwardly on other races, there’s some stuff going on within you and your own communities that is a DIRECT result of the shit that happened hundreds of years ago and working on it will help what we do today.
Absolutely but I’d say shadow work is what’s needed to be a race traitor, instead of an ally. I’m trying to steer white people away from the concept of allyship since it’s been completely watered down and misappropriated so that white people can act like it’s an identity label to collect and is something that they can engage with passively by just saying the right words. I want white people to instead focus on being race traitors because, at least to me, it better portrays how necessary action is over just saying the right things. Being a race traitor is something you do actively and it inherently aids in the dismantling of the concept of whiteness.
Can people make sure this version gets spread around instead of the version without my clarification? People keep reblogging it without and it’s leading to a bit of derailing in the notes. Overall this post is about being a race traitor, not white people reconnecting with their ancestry. That’s good and all but the focus of this post needs to be about being a race traitor.
Wow y’all reblogging my post with my additions and still acting like the only important take away from this is that white people should learn their history and not that white people should be race traitors. I can tell by the tags y’all keep adding.
This is why y’all need to watch what you add to black peoples posts when they’re trying to talk about something important. People give all the attention to what you’re saying instead of what the post was initially about thanks to unconscious bias.
Tag and reblog a character you think would be treated better if they were the opposite gender?
Good news for you, this August 23rd.

So this is just a PSA, y'all should never sign a contract until you read it. I’m talking in rl right now. I just got through reading my employee handbook/service contract and my bosses slipped in a lot of bullshit like telling me I can’t complain about my job on social media, demanding I work off the clock in the name of good service, expects me to show up on time during inclimate weather, and considered disability or religious accommodation a direct threat to the company.
These are all things I took issue with and brought to my employer for further discussion before signing the contract. Most of my coworkers signed without reading, treating it like an internet terms of service contract.
Tl;dr real life is serious shit, lawyers write contracts to protect your employer FROM YOU, read contracts before you sign them - fucking ARGUE about contracts before you sign them
Also important to note, and something my bf has repeated to me many times: a contract is a negotiation until it is signed, and YOU ARE ALLOWED TO AMEND IT. Tech companies often put some bs in there about “we own everything you make while you work for us” which broadly applied also means anything done on your own time. He always ALWAYS does write-in amendments with initial and date to state that they only own things done FOR the company, on company time, because there have been companies that enforced that bullshit when somebody had a personal side project the company decided they wanted to steal. There’s only one company that threw a fit at his attempts to amend it and he considered that a huge red flag and refused to sign, turned down the job.
Never. EVER. Sign shit without reading it. Also: if your prospective employer won’t let you take the thing home to read before you sign it and says you need to sign it then and there THAT IS A RED FLAG. The job I had that turned out to be abusive as shit was like that. Every other job I’ve been able to bring the contract home to my parents to have a more experienced set of eyes on it. It’s also common practice in some fields to have one’s attorney look over it before signing. So never let them tell you that you can’t look over it with someone else. That’s a fat load of shit. For “lower level” jobs they may not accept amendments to the contract but if they won’t even give you the proper time to read it over, they’re trying to pull some bullshit on you and you’re going to regret it if you sign. Even if there’s nothing bad in what you signed it’s an example of how they are going to treat you while you’re there. Take it to heart and run like fucking hell.
Please also tell your coworkers. Inform others. Tell everyone. Please, for the lovee of everything TELL PEOPLE THEY ARE ALLOWED TO DO THESE THINGS.
Companies BANK on the fact you’re not going to read it. Then they slip in shit like ‘you can’t talk about your wages’ because they want you to keep quiet, so thy can pay that guy six bucks, and pay the guy over there fifteen and pay you eight. They want you to accept it all blindly. PLEASE DON’T STAY BLIND.
Yes, I’ve lost out on jobs because I wanted to read it and they didn’t want me to. Or they wanted m to resign and I said no to to the things they added that I pointed out were unfair and borderline illegal.
Read shit. Tell everyone else to read shit. BE INFORMED.
Absolutely 100% good advice ☝🏼☝🏼☝🏼
Never ever ever sign shit without reading and re-reading it! Take it home, show it to someone more experienced, if you can, show it to a lawyer. A contract is supposed to work for both sides. A company in Toronto tried to make me sign a contract with clause that in event of me leaving the job I will not work in a similar position anywhere in Ontario. Yeah, right, not enforceable in court, dudes, you can’t prevent me from making a living. Read the shit and don’t let them intimidate you.
Hi. I‘m a lawyer. Ask for at least 24 hours before you sign a work contract. You do not have to sign within 30 seconds of the contract hitting the desk. It is absolutely standard procedure. It gives you time to show it to a lawyer or go to a public counselor and have them look it over. In-room signing is another way companies blindside and intimidate you. Don’t be rushed. This is an absolutely normal thing to do. People who try to harangue you or hurry you along are sketchy.
THIS GOES FOR ANY SORT OF PUBLISHING CONTRACT AS WELL,
What with the whole “reopening the economy ‘after’ the pandemic” vibe going on, now, and employers aggressively trying to recruit new staff, there’s a lot of pressure to take whatever job you’re offered (especially in states with Republican governors & legislatures).
So all this is extra important to keep in mind, right now.
Also jumping on to say that your job should supply you with a contract. Contracts are good things, so long as you read them and agree with what is stated in them.
Before you start any job. A company should not only list everything they expect of you, but it should also list what you expect of them in a contract.
Agreed vacation time, sick days, base pay, benefits, working hours.
All of that should be up front and available for you to read.
NEVER WORK FOR A COMPANY THAT WONT GIVE YOU A EMPLOYMENT CONTRACT.
IF YOU DONT HAVE A DOCUMENT THAT CONFIRMS YOUR PAY AT MINIMUM, THEN YOU ARE SETTING YOURSELF UP TO BE SCREWED.
ALSO ASK FOR COPIES OF ANYTHING YOU AGREED TO SIGN AND KEEP THAT SHIT.
IT WILL PROTECT YOU.
And an NDA is not a contract. It’s an NDA. If a company doesn’t have a handbook or a good formal contract, don’t work there.
If your employment is terminated at any point, read any paperwork they give to you then. Take it home. Contact a lawyer, if needed.
Reblogging because it works the other way too: they’ll depend on you not having read your contract so they can pretend anything they like is in it.
Last month one of my supervisors wanted me to do something and I told him it wasn’t my job and I wasn’t going to do it, and he told me that it was in my contract that I had to. If I hadn’t read my contract when I signed it then I might have believed him, but I always read employment contracts and while I don’t recall every detail in them, I wouldn’t have signed one that had that in it.
I politely told him that I needed to see a copy of my signed contract pointing out exactly where it said I had to do that before I did it, and suddenly, hey presto, I didn’t have to do it anymore.
One of the weird things about American culture is the tendency to refer to things by brand name, as opposed to the product name.
For example, I’ve known people to say Kleenex when they meant tissue. I’ve heard people use Hoover instead of vacuum.
And it gets to a point with certain things that some people can’t distinguish the difference.
Weedwhacker is a brand. How many people know the real term is “string trimmer”? Jell-O is a brand. And it’s so pervasive that people call literally any gelatin dessert “jello” even if it’s not made by Jell-O. Tupperware! That’s a brand!
The one thing that constantly messes with my head, though:
DUMPSTER IS A BRAND.
AND I HAVE GENUINELY NO IDEA WHAT TO CALL A DUMPSTER OTHER THAN A DUMPSTER.
we call them skips if that helps
Oh yeah that’s a tip
if it makes you feel any better it’s not just americans who do it and also corporations hate it because if a brand name becomes generic enough they lose the trademark
you can just call a dumpster a dumpster, it’s ok
Yet another reason why “to photoshop” should be a verb. Because adobe can suck my ass.
