When I was doing screen prints for University, I thought of the little mermaid as the theme, as I carved away the lino in three layers I realised I wanted to do the Little Mermaid.
The story is about a Mermaid falling in love with a man trading her tail for legs and her selfless act of taking her own life rather than harming the prince alongside his fiance.
It was the true story, not the edited disney version the ending of the little mermaid is and will continue to be a tragedy as so many lgbt die unable to live their truth the fact that we still have no story of a version of little mermaid that ends with two men, two women or someone transitioning in the year 2026 shows we are still nowhere near, even now trans rights have been revoked or come under fire in legistrations espeically in the us. So many people want the happy ending only if the mermaid was a cis women with a cis man.
In the UK alone lgbt spaces have been attacked and destroyed in hate crimes, Pride is STILL a protest and is still an uphill fight.
