"if you're in the midst of psychosis then you HAVE TO--" stop. hold on. I'm taking your hand gently here. Now I'm leading you by the hand to this cliff overlooking a beautiful valley. See how the wind brushes the branches of the trees like a lover's caress? See how the birds make shapes with each other? How do they know how to do that? See how every little bug and squirrel, every mouse and deer and wolf and bear and frog make up something greater than themselves that is, itself somehow alive, perhaps even awake, capable of perceiving itself? Now I'm pushing you over the cliff. Fuck you cunt
The trans pride flag was invented in 1999, btw.
So it's not that DS9 has trans pride carpet, it's that the trans pride flag is in DS9 carpet colors.
1999 is also the year DS9 ended. Coincidence?!
Dune if I was in charge
taking away a clowngirl's makeup telling her she doesn't have to be a clown she can just be a normal silly billy and correcting her any time she tries to juggle until she gets sadder and sadder and eventually stops talking altogether and just communicating via gestures and realizing with horror you've created a mimegirl
you get it
Vampire girl explaining that vampires don’t necessarily have to kill someone to drink their blood, but she did kind of kill a lot of people back when she was all depressed pre-transition: “when I was an egg I ate four dozen lads”
The way most autism literature describes "literal interpretation" is often not at all similar to how I experience it. Teenage me even thought I couldn't be autistic because I've always been able to learn metaphors easily.
In fact, I love wordplay of all kinds. Teenage me was fascinated to learn all the types of figurative language there are in poetry and literature.
But paperwork and questionnaires are hard, because there's so much they don't state clearly. Or they don't leave room for enough nuance.
"List all the jobs you've had, with start and end dates." What if I don't remember the exact day or month? Is the year enough?
"Have you been suffering from blurred vision?" Well, if I take off my glasses the whole world is blurred, but I'm fairly sure that's not what the intake form at the optometrist is asking.
Or the infamous (and infuriatingly stereotypical) "Would you rather go to a library or a party?" What sort of party? Where? Who's there? I work at a library. Am I currently at the library for work or pleasure? Does it have a good collection?
It's not common figures of speech that confound me. It's ambiguity, in situations that aren't supposed to be ambiguous.
Oh. Oh.
Okay then.
dead serious normalize having an average boring ass life where you have enough to meet your needs we do not need to be remarkable we just need to be alive
"we do not need to be remarkable we just need to be alive"
“we do not need to
be remarkable we just
need to be alive”
Beep boop! I look for accidental haiku posts. Sometimes I mess up.
People will say that trans women are dangerous and then you meet one and she’s just some girl named Luna who hasn’t had a hug in twenty years
boys exist purely as the larval stage of girls, everyone knows this.
There is still time. It's never too late to transition
lesbian scifi is so easy. here’s a woman in cargo pants and a tank top on a spaceship. are you with me
maybe it’s not even cargo pants. maybe it’s coveralls rolled to + tied around the waist. maybe she even has fuckoff boots
I think one of the points that gets lost in my larger degendering sports post is that you also have to fight misogyny (and transmisogyny).
Behaving (trans)misogynistically needs to be considered a breach of the social contract that comes with participating in communal activities like sports. It shouldn't matter how skilled you are or how much money you earn an organization, treating women with anything less than respect and equality should be grounds to remove you from a communal activity. Part of the problem is that practically no space is willing to do this to the degree necessary to actually start to make change.
That's why I think every men's league should be dismantled and rebuilt as co-ed from the ground up. Because institutions like them (and everything else that features and caters to almost-exclusively men as the default) will reproduce misogynist behavior. It's built in to society at the ground level, and needs to be fought on all levels and in all activities.
I think sports is an effective arena to have this conversation in, because it's a community building social activity. If we can dismantle patriarchal norms in sports, especially at younger ages, we can start to build the world we want to see. But just continuing on the trajectory we're setting now (a women's league for every men's league) is just going to heighten the divide further.
We can't expect men to teach themselves to behave in ways that are anti-misogynist. That goes against their material class interest. Giving men spaces of their own will always reinforce this, so these spaces must be removed.
Degendering sports will not fix misogyny today, but it may help fight the power structures in place so that misogyny will be less of a problem in 50 years. But continuing to allow men their own leagues will just push that future further and further away. It has to start now.
Once again, this is not to say that women's leagues are not important. In the world we live in right now, women's spaces are necessary because of the material interests that men have as a class. Removing those material interests by refusing social space and energy to people who behave counter to the class interests of women is necessary, just as is building up the class interests of women.
But the goal is not a world where women are privileged over men, or even reap the same benefits men do as a class. The goal should be a world where no class has material interests that rely on the denial and subjugation of others.
A women's/girl's league for every men's/boy's league still provides space for both leagues to keep the tranny out, because cis men and women have class interests aligned against trans people. A women's league that provides development and a safe space for a disadvantaged class and a co-ed league that is actively working to dismantle the disparities between the classes will help guide us to a world where there is no class distinction and thus no need for anything but the co-ed league.
And I'll freely admit to you all right now: I do not care about men's sports. I don't want to watch men's sports. I currently only watch women's sports, because I only want to see women play. I feel this way because men as a class treat women like shit. Did you know the NHL doesn't have a league policy condemning domestic violence? That alone makes men's hockey unsalvageable to me. I find it disgusting, I don't give a single flying fuck how good any of those players are. They all actively participate in a league that won't say "hey, beating your wives/girlfriends is fucked up and you can't play here if you do that."
But continuing to allow the NHL to exist allows the men who play in it to get away with it. The NHL needs to be burned to the ground and replaced with a league that does condemn that kind of violence. That league needs to be co-ed, because allowing the same men to populate a space by themselves will always result in a space that either tacitly or actively treats women as property.
Also, as a lesbian, I just love watching women play sports against other women. I do. I love watching Laura Stacey absolutely body someone on the ice. But because the PWHL is a women's league exclusively, I know deep in my heart that there is almost no future in which it allows me or my trans sisters to play. Every time one of the coaches or players talks about "female hockey" I know they aren't talking about me.
The only future I can see in which me and my sisters are truly and freely allowed to play with no draconian hormone checks or policies that dictate how long we've had to be transitioning is a future where sports isn't separated on gender lines at all. That future requires fighting misogyny and transmisogyny everywhere all the time. And that requires dismantling men's spaces. It requires constructing spaces that treat everyone equally, regardless of gender. Until those spaces exist, it requires spaces that treat people equitably based on the ways they are oppressed as a class now.
I can't do it alone.
Is there anything sadder than the little chunk of Kikis Delivery Service when Kiki says “I used to really like flying before it was my job” and then gets so burned out that her magic stops working and she cant talk to Jiji anymore and she tries so hard to FORCE the magic that she breaks her mothers broom and stays up all night, alone, trying to make a new one and crying?
And I know it is all ok in the end- Kiki has friends who look out for her and she takes care of herself and finds her place.
But fuck, those 20 minutes just hurt my heart so much.
7 years!!
The only regret I have is not starting sooner! - TW: depression - waiting for my hormone therapy was one of the most suicidal times of my life, thanks to gatekeeping and long waiting times. We need self ID and informed consent everywhere, it saves lives!
