I took a class a couple semesters back about women’s history where the professor put a lot of emphasis on the fact that people only care about women when they do things that are otherwise men only (queen elizabeth, constance markievicz, etc) (stay with me here) instead of being interested in how most women lived in their own right, because something that’s just ‘a girl thing’ isn’t seen as important or worth discussing. and it’s also interesting how the third named woman and only female pov in this book is a cool as fuck assassin instead of him elaborating in literally any way on how women are meant to exist in this society apart from ‘they’re kept out of public life entirely so it doesn’t matter’
