Alyssa Mae Noceda (18) died after overdosing on drugs on February 3rd, 2018. That night, Alyssa went to a party at the home of Brian Roberto Varela (19) in Lynnwood, Louisiana. According to Brian, Alyssa snorted Percocet and ingested liquid marijuana before collapsing in his room. Brian did not seek help for Alyssa after she collapsed–instead, he took semi-nude photographs of her and sent them to friends with the caption “LOL, I think she od’d, still breathing, I’m smashing her to pass the time.” The next morning, Brian used Alyssa’s thumbprint to unlock her phone and access her Snapchat account. He then posted a message on Alyssa’s story in order to make her friends think she was running away.  Afterwards, he left Alyssa’s body at his house and went to work at his job at Dairy Queen. While there, Brian bragged to his co-workers about sexually assaulting Alyssa as she was dying. One of his co-workers alerted authorities, who then went to Brian’s residence and found Alyssa’s body hidden in a plastic bin. Brian was arrested and charged with second-degree rape and controlled substance homicide. He is currently being held on a $1.5 million bond. He has not yet entered a plea.

UPDATE: On November 15th, 2018, Brian Valera pleaded guilty to second-degree manslaughter, third-degree rape, and unlawful disposal of human remains. He was sentenced to 2 years and 10 months in prison. Alyssa’s family and friends are reportedly disappointed by his sentence, as they feel it is a very light sentencing for such a horrific crime. Brian offered a brief apology at his sentencing, stating “I’m sorry for my foolish actions. Whatever I get is what I deserve.”
