Going to mormon hell for this (as if I wasn’t already lmao).
But we were talking about the Sabbath, and one person raised her hand to speak. She spoke of how when she was a little kid, she and a friend wore bathing suits and jumped around on the trampoline with the hose and just having a grand old time. Her dad came, and asked “Hey, is this keeping the Sabbath day holy?”
Since they’re little kids, they said of course it was.
He then told them that this wasn’t keeping the Sabbath day holy, stating “would Jesus want to do this with you on his holy day?”
Told? I meant guiltripped. He guiltripped little kids into thinking they’re not allowed to have any fun on Sunday, and she of course listened to her dad and ended up just watching tv the whole day.
She was bursting out crying, saying that it was a powerful lesson because now with everything she wonders if Jesus would want to do this with her. Would Jesus want to do homework with me? No he wouldn’t. And mentioned not just Sundays, but thinking about this all the time.
Of course, me loving Mormon hell at this point, I’m going down there for instantly thinking about things like making out and above being like ah yes would Jesus want to do that with me- oh dear. And while she’s bursting out sobbing with the spirit I’m sitting there trying not to burst out laughing.
I mean in all seriousness, it’s absolutely ridiculous. Even if this is true, Jesus loves kids. I’m sure he’d rather spend time with them on the trampoline having fun versus watching tv all day??
And why would he care if you did homework on Sunday? If you absolutely need to do it, wouldn’t he much rather do that with you instead of you purposely ignoring your homework and increasing your anxiety? Wouldn’t he rather you be happy and anxiety free with it all done?
And besides, I’d rather not think that Jesus is stalking me watching my every move. I don’t need what Mormons love to preach in my head, which is that there is absolutely zero privacy with Heavenly Father or Jesus and they watch your every thought closely. That’s just really freaky.
I mean sure, if there’s a god above, they’d probably look over your general actions. And they’d probably like it a lot of you didn’t do something like murdering someone innocent on Sunday. But any day isn’t a good day for murdering innocent people.
In my mind Sunday should be a day of rest in its own way. Whether people go to church or not, Sunday is a time to relax before work and school picks up again. For some people it’s playing videogames, or watching movies, or church, baking, napping, anything. Even jumping on a trampoline in your bathing suit and the hose. I don’t think god cares exactly what you do, as long as you are spending your time on making yourself happy. And people shouldn’t feel guilty or pressured to use Sunday as a day to further their indoctrination and submission.
Sunday should be me going to my nice LGBT church and then relaxing or doing some homework, just whatever sounds nice and is needed before school or work happens again. Sunday shouldn’t be sitting in an unwelcome horrifying place where I feel threatened at every corner, and then having to take a five hour nap to feel better about the trauma inside there.
I am so excited for when I can resign and take my Sunday again, a seventh of my life back. And my heart goes to those who are suffering through Sunday as well.
