humans are space orks: dreams
I actually dont have anything to say right now but it feels weird not to start one of my posts with some thought prologue
Human: (Half asleep, barely keeping their eyes open, accidentally presses the wrong Red Button)
Alien: (Notices that their favorite human is about to step into the ship's waste chute just in time to wrap their tail around the human's waist)
Alien: "What the hell!?" (Exclaimed while steadying them with oddly gentle hands)
Human: "Wha? Why'd you grab me..? I need to slide into the... the, um... I forgot what I came here for."
Alien: "What is 𝘸𝘳𝘰𝘯𝘨 with you!?" (Keeps a hand on them while they close the trash chute) "You were about to get yourself killed!"
Human: "Oh. I'm... sorry, I had the most horrible dream last night. It made me wake up in the middle of the night and I couldn't fall back asleep."
Alien: (Still irritated, guiding them to a safer spot) "Not a good excuse. Also, what's a dream?"
Human: (Gives the alien a look) "You don't 𝘥𝘳𝘦𝘢𝘮? When humans fall asleep our brains, like, process the day through dreaming. It's like a movie in our heads."
Human: "The one I had scared me, so I didn't want to fall asleep again."
Alien: "That sounds incredibly made up. You see movies in your sleep that your brain made?"
Human: "Essentially."
Alien: "It also sounds exhausting. You just never get any rest?"
Human: "I'm still sleeping 𝘸𝘩𝘪𝘭𝘦 I dream. So it counts."
(They both fall silent. The human knows exactly what the other wants to hear.)
Human: "I dreamt meteors came down and destroyed the city. I had to float around on the ocean sitting on a pics of debris, all alone."
Alien: "You have a weird brain..."
Human: "You basically asked. Looks like someone secretly 𝘤𝘢𝘳𝘦𝘴 about me."
Alien: (Rolls their eyes skyward) "C'mon. I'm putting you down for a nap before you hurt yourself somehow."
also sorry i’m so tired of people acting like they can have nothing in common with someone a few years older or younger than them. have you never had coworkers who aren’t your exact age. have you never taken an art class with someone thirty years older than you. have you never had a friend. like did covid fry everyone’s brains this badly
people will have double-digit opinions on kink discourse and still manage to not know what BDSM stands for

On tumblr, you can say "don't stick a fork in that electric outlet in the wall, getting electrocuted that way is really bad for you", and people will reply with "but what if I use a knife? Is that dangerous too or am I allowed to do that?" And another one is like "op is lying it's actually 100% safe fun and cute uwu" because they live in a house with the electricity cut off. A third one goes "oh my god I had no idea I've been risking my life every single time I poke a fork at the wall. I just like the way the wallpaper feels when I puncture it. No wonder mom yells at me every time I do it! D:"
And then it explodes into an argument concerning whether or not getting electrocuted is inherently, ontologically bad for you or not, because someone shared their story of how getting electroconvulsive therapy cured their depression and saved their life, and therefore OP is wrong for implying that going out of your way to get electrocuted is always wrong and bad in every situation.
im sorry i literally cannot get this out of my head since last night

if I see one more "why age verification is bad" post that doesn't even bother to mention that locking young people out of huge sections of the public sphere - literally the stated goal and primary impact of this shit - is wrong in and of itself I will simply start hitting people with bricks
yes yes biometric data privacy blah blah adults can hypothetically by harmed by this too. what about the immediate and deliberate and not at all hypothetical harm to youth. why are you acting like a potential data leak about what your face looks like, which if it ever happened would at least be generally recognised as a problem, is a more serious issue than cutting millions of people off from information and community and public expression which is happening right now in the open with large scale support
it's got the stench of fucking "banned books week" on it. thousands of adults congratulating themselves for reading books literally no one is trying to stop them from reading while doing nothing to improve access for the young people who are the ones actually having those books made off-limits to them.
[normal person voice] as we all know, the public sphere consists largely of strip clubs and pools of glowing green acid
Seeing this post again, it just came to mind that dangerous sites aren't even age restricted, they are restricted to almost everyone. Like kids are not the exception there. They are part of the rule. The exception is the people who have individual licenses to enter because it's their job.
It genuenly has nothing to do with the fuckass.
Why is this heat so hot 😩

Schism? Schism today?
Wow, I didn't have "catholic schism" on my 2026 bingo card
Schism today
Whenever someone asks me, how conservative is TOO conservative in my opinion, I say "Getting excommunicated by the Roman Catholic Church conservative".
Or at the very least "the Pope™ has called out your bigotry conservative".
MOVE began in the early 1970s as a non-violent, predominantly black, counterculture activist group. It originally called itself "the Movement," later shortened to MOVE. Its founder, John Africa, was the philosophical leader. He advocated an anti-technology approach, respect for animal life and communal living. on May 13, 1985, an assault on MOVE'S Osage Avenue head quarters began. Police shot 10,000 rounds of ammunition in ninety minutes and finally dropped a bomb from a helicopter incinerating five MOVE members and six children, and destroying sixty-one homes.
It really is crazy the way anybody ever managed to push the idea that there is a real, tangible "transmasc erasure". If you look up books, comics, movies, plays, etc. starring a trans protagonist pretty much every single time they are going to be trans masc or TME nonbinary. You have some notable exceptions like Nevada, or Detransition Baby, but pretty much every one of those is going to be BY a transfem author telling our own stories. But they will swear that transmascs are being erased in media compared to trans women so you will go through a list of the top 50 trans books and top 10 trans films for pride and the top 8 queer comic lists and they will pretty much all be about a transmasc experience and you will be like. okay so I reviewed 60 pieces of media and 5 of them were interested in representing trans women and the rest were transmasc or TME nb what do you mean by erasure and they will look you in the eye and say with a full chest "I am jealous that you guys get more blood libel than us"
You will be like "what transfem representation??" and they will be like "that movie with the evil perverted male crossdresser killer or 'shemale anal blowbang volume III' ? " and you will have to explain that is exploitation not representation and they will still get mad at you.
Polish guy reading Der Sturmer and fuming that Jews are mentioned as being racially inferior conniving evil backstabbers over 200 times and the Polish are only brought up as being racially undesireable every now and then. Why do the Jews get all the representation.
I am thinking about this more because people are coming to me with REAL WORLD examples of trans men being erased from public life rather than media rep and it's like. Ok yes trans men are being ignored in medical studies. so are trans women (If you try to says its somehow worse for trans men all I know is that you have no trans women who trust you in your life because when we actually talk to eachother irl its clear we are both being ignored by the medical community. And no, medical studies such as "why are shemales such perverts" by Blanchard or Zucker or Ablow do NOT count as sound medical studies of trans women.). Yes trans men are being pushed out of employment by transphobes. So are trans women in greater numbers. Yes trans men experience violence (including sexual violence) at high rates, but trans women experience it at a higher rate than that. No transfeminists are claiming that trans men are not being targeted by transphobes, but when someone is walking around with a giant sign that says "KILL ALL TRANSGENDERS!" and your response is to go "Oh no think of the trans men!" SERIOUSLY worried about your feelings on trans women.
Reblogging because eventhough pride-moth is over, trans-misogyny is still real and rampant.
I think the "pre" and "post" parts in "preposterous" should cancel each other out but everyone else seems to find my idea completely erous
i dont really get this fixation with rivals. i had a girl who kept getting in my way and was really annoying and constantly challenged me but miss sword told me to kill her so i idd. maybe you're just not very good at listening to miss sword? you know she loves you right?
"creatives are all insane" = boring and overdone
"creatives are all perverts" = objectively true every time
people are always saying things such as "this story/movie/show has incredible worldbuilding if you look past a few questionable scenes". the authors not disguised fetish that's a part of the creative process
I hate to admit that you're right.
That one questionable scene is the reason the whole story exist. I'm sorry.
i think the idea that art cannot affect the world as an absolutism is not really accurate, it is an exaggerated version of the much truer, "you cannot make a movie that's so good that you singlehandedly transform the culture". but the superstructure--in aggregate--does of course influence the base, and totally denying that is an undialectical overcorrection in response to idealism. it would be wrong to suggest that chernyshevsky novels caused the russian revolution but you can't ascribe complete meaninglessness to the fact that lenin named his pamphlet that
Fiction and reality are in constant touch with eachother and constantly affect eachother.
The way women are being portrayed in media in a certain age, does not just reflect, but also reinforces the social norms and expectations towards women at that time.
One movie won't be able to do that alone, one Coleen Hoover book getting a movie adaptation, won't make abuse romantic in the eyes of the majority of people, but if more-and-more books and movies show the same thing, then it does reinforce the idea that what is being shown in these is romantic and normal.
Fiction has an impact on reality. Especially on the personal level. I have been saved by a book, I have been made uncomfortable by a book...
And yet, censorship is not the answer. It has never been. It has always been education.

If door ID checks, and other safety guide rails are functioning, then yes I think the kids could be at the club. My uncle took me to a club that allowed kids a few times when I was young and it was a lark. I drank soda, danced, marveled at the fog and lasers. Literally it was fine.
The problems that they're claiming to want to solve are still problems that need solutions, though. Roblox is a festering waste pool, YouTube and tiktok pull kids into bad places and encourage bad behavior, Instagram and Snapchat are so incredibly bad for kids mental health. Kids are not mentally equipped for the unfiltered Internet like adults and even teens are (some of the time).
Most parents don't do shit about their kids' Internet habits, many that do don't do enough or do way too much for the wrong reasons (ie block kids from queer support but for some reason not from radicals and other awful things).
I'm generally all for children's rights, but the right to a safe and happy upbringing supercedes the right to tiktoks showing kids shove things in electrical outlets at their schools, so what's a better solution?
oh well of course, if the technologies and social spaces are destroying children's brains and encouraging bad behaviour, we should definitely worry about that because it's clearly true since the same things were never said about malls and skate parks and arcades and video games and TV and movies and raves and dance clubs and bicycles and novels and
Before I start, I am fully with you on this, social media is not the problem itself.
There is a case to be made, how social media like Facebook, Tiktok, Instagram and the like is bad for mental health and development. Which it can be.
There is a genuine issue with the effect these apps have on attention spans, mental health and even physical development.
There is a shit ton of things wrong with the internet, and public spaces irl.
BUT it's almost like it's the parents' job to individually assess if their child is able to handle that. Not the government's. Especially not trough putting the same restriction on every child weather they need it or not.
A 15 year old child, who also happens to be an art student can not access ANATOMY REFERENCES in Britain, because nudity is flagged as adult and websites showing it require IDs. How is that benefitial to children's development. How does this protect anyone?
It is inherently wrong to exclude young people from pools of knowledge.
This is not on the level of asking for an ID before you enter into a nightclub, this is on the level of asking for an ID to enter into a museum of fine arts, because the Statue of David is there and it's nude.
I went to a catholic school, and the two statues guarding the art room were a copy of the Statue of David and the Birth of Venus inspired statue.
The level of exclusion is ridiculous. Even if there is an argument that 14 year olds shouldn't be on porn sites (pretentious to act like we didn't look them up out at that age), there is no reason to exclude them from spaces that are neutral to age...
So to answer the question: education... Education will solve this issue. Educate the parents. Educate the children. Teach them about internet safety. The solution is not taking away the information we deem "bad" the solution is teaching children how to access good information and how to tell apart trustworthy and untrustworthy sources.
Do you think cavemen ever got humiliated and had the kms urge? Like "Grug so embarrassed, Grug jump into tar pit" and then Glarg is like "Noooo everyone forget soon" and Grug is like "Grug going to do it for real"
