Man everyone keeps being like “Azune is basically the same age as demodus” and then running with the idea that both of them are basically children, and Murray not seeing him that way is some sort of failure on her part. And I don’t think that’s the right conclusion to draw here.
So much of how we think about age actually has to do with like, life experiences etc. demodus is a grad student who does whimsical performance magic. azune is a war vet with a job in a leadership position who up until very recently has does everything he can to make everyone see him as competent. One of these people fits into the societal role of a child in a way the other doesn’t.
It doesn’t help that despite being protective of her students, Murray seems like she’s pretty shit at doing any of the comforting or emotional stuff. She’s all tough love, when they rescued demodus she immediately yelled at him for being stupid, despite this obviously hurting him. I don’t remember the exact line off the top of my head but she even talked about giving him an awkward and not super comforting hug. She has a few tender moments, but overall she’s simply not good at being earnest and soft with anyone.
Murray is observant and she knows Azune well enough to see that he’s struggling, she just doesn’t know what to do with that. Like, the ice cream thing reads to me as her trying to cover up intense emotions with humor, but also as her not knowing how to give Azune what he needs from her. He doesn’t want to be treated like a child, he wants someone to prioritize his safety! And it sucks and isn’t fair to Azune, but the stakes are high and she needs to be able to rely on him to continue getting shit done, at least for a little while.
The thing about Azune that’s so heartbreaking is that he is a full competent adult now. When he sees the way everyone treats demodus it’s upsetting, but I think it’s less him wanting that for himself now, and more that he’s realizing his younger self should have gotten that treatment. Which is an important distinction.
Two job-hunting resources that changed my life:
This cover letter post on askamanger.com. A job interview guide written by Alison Green, who runs askamanager.
Shout-out to @ms-demeanor for putting these on my dash again, I’d like to add this exceptional interview question “answer guide” that explains traps and “the best” way to answer over 64 common questions. I don’t know who to attribute it to, but here it is: PDF from tri valley one-stop career center.
Hey some of these answer templates helped J get an offer letter from her dream job; strongly recommend you read them if you’re job hunting

I've had a busy family weekend but I wanted to keep the ball rolling on this Umbrella Academy piece I started the other day
I find it so... weird how people will write these passive aggressive posts like "why are you making these long posts? why should I care? you're not changing MY mind!!" when someone criticizes a character/actor/player in the Crit Role fandom or writes thoughtout meta that isn't purely praise.
It's such a, idk, navel gaze-y outlook. Maybe, perchance, they aren't trying to change your mind about anything (it's more likely than not that they don't even know you exist to begin with), maybe they simply enjoy talking about certain subjects, or enjoy analyzing why some things work and others don't, enjoy analyzing patterns of behaviour and how they affect the game etc etc
The knee jerk reaction of reacting to such posts as if you've been thrust into a debate club and you must hold your ground is only harmful for you because you'll end up pavloving yourself into reacting to anything other than meta/analysis/criticism that aligns with your views and opinions as an attack or an argument that must be won.
random PSA, I know a lot of people use duckduckgo as a Google alternative search engine, but it always kind of annoyed me when I was using it because it felt like No Name Brand Google
I have switched to using Startpage.com and vastly prefer it. for one thing, instead of displaying an "AI summary" at the top of the search results (unless you turn it off, yes I know), it displays the first paragraph of the Wikipedia article, with link, whenever it finds one that's relevant.
also a waaayyyyy better sense of design than duckduckgo
also private, European based, least annoying search I've used lately (RIP old "don't be evil" Google)
Keeping a list of Google alternatives just in case…
i have one of those, scraped from multiple different rec posts:
Search Engines
Infinity Search is an alternative search engine with a special focus on privacy
DuckDuckGo is a popular search engine for those who value their privacy and are put off by the thought of their every query being tracked and logged. Uses bangs, ![site] for in-page search (sells your data to microsoft and draws from fucking bing)
WolframAlpha is a privately owned search engine that allows you to “compute expert-level answers using Wolfram’s breakthrough algorithms, knowledgebase, and AI technology.” A data search engine.
Boardreader is a search engine for forums and message boards. It allows you to search forums and then filter down results by date and language.
Based in France, Qwant is a privacy-based search engine that won’t record your searches or use your personal details for advertising. Uses “&” as a bang search.
Another privacy-based search engine is Search Encrypt, which uses local encryption to ensure that users’ identifiable information cannot be tracked. Metasearch across multiple engines.
Offering unbiased results from several sources, SearX is a metasearch engine that aims to present a free, decentralized view of the internet. Can be self-hosted.
Gibiru’s tagline is “Unfiltered private search” and that’s exactly what it offers. Requires AnonymoX Firefox add-on for privacy.
Disconnect allows you to conduct anonymous searches through a search engine of your choice.
Swisscows provides fully encrypted searches to protect your privacy and security. Built-in violence/porn filter cannot be overridden.
MetaGer offers “Privacy Protected Search & Find” through its anonymised search. A plugin will allow it to be made a default.
Gigablast is a private search engine that indexes millions of websites and servers real-time information without tracking your data, keeping you hidden from marketers and spammers. Variety of filtration and refinement options for searching.
Oscobo is a search engine that protects your privacy while you search the web. By not using any third-party tools or scripts, your data is protected from hacking and misuse. Has a Chrome extension to allow use in toolbar.
https://search.marginalia.nu/ an independent DIY search engine that focuses on non-commercial content, and attempts to show you sites you perhaps weren't aware of in favor of the sort of sites you probably already knew existed. Use old-school searching rather than query-based for the best results.
https://www.mojeek.com/
https://wiby.me/ - It’s goal is to index as many personalized websites as possible, and NOT commercial sites.
https://4get.ca/ it works a lot like SearX, but honestly better. It doesn’t have its own index, but pulls from many others. I think it’s the best for research, since it allows you to search for answers from different indexes, is easy to configure, add free, and avoids censorship as much as it can.
https://www.searchenginemap.com/ for more on how search engines relate to each other.
https://yep.com/ is a crawler
https://www.etools.ch/ retrieves from Google, Mojeek, Bing, and Yandex, like Searx
https://www.dogpile.com/
https://searxng.org/ (next gen Searx)
https://luxxle.com/ - possibly conservative?
https://presearch.com/ - good for academic?
https://kagi.com/smallweb - free/randomised Kagi.

"everyone should get more aromantic" can appeal to tumblr's sensibilities but I genuinely think everyone should also get more asexual. I don't mean everyone stop having sex, what I mean is
Sex is not essential. You can live without it. Full stop.
Not having sex isn't shameful or a sign of failure. It also doesn't make anyone boring.
You are not entitled to having sex with anybody and nobody is entitled to having sex with you.
Sex is not what makes someone an adult.
Nobody's worth is defined by how much sex they have or don't have.
Sex is not equally important to everyone.
You can have fulfilling and happy relationships without sex.
You should only have sex on your own terms, not because you feel like you owe it to someone, or because you feel like you'd be incomplete without it.
Know your boundaries around sex and be firm about them. Know how to respect other people's boundaries.
The previous point also applies when it comes to discussing sex. If someone doesn't wanna talk about it or hear about it you have to back down.
Anything can be sexual but not everything has to be sexual.
This moment from EP 3 has lived rent free in my head since it happened I've needed to draw this.
Also wow this is the first drawing that I willingly did like a whole composition for outside of art classes. took me a whole week
Am I spending my Bank Holiday weekend drawing fanart of a villain from a mostly dead fandom? Yes. Yes, I am.
