NASA just dropped the closest image ever taken of Jupiter
after a lifetime of hearing about aragorn but not reading the books or watching the movies, genuinely nothing could have prepared me for his actual introduction. the hobbits picked this man out of a dumpster. he is a textbook softspoken angst prince and he is covered in dirt and he probably smells so bad. he’s the coolest man alive and is so casual about it. his number one skill is Knowing Where They Are and his number two skill is Having A Horrible Destiny That Torments Him. tolkien got it in one i’m afraid aragorn son of arathorn you are the guy of all time
And then the movies went and understood the assignment by casting Viggo Mortensen.
Described by legendary fight choreographer and Olympic fencer Bob Anderson as “the best swordsman I’ve ever trained”, and insisted on using a real steel sword to get the movement right. Actually bonded with the horses he rode and worked with over the course of filming. Was noted by cast members as being the natural leader of the actors when they were together. Went hiking and fishing in full costume for the sake of authenticity, even repairing damage to the costumes himself to better convey the life of a self-reliant ranger. Actually learned Sindarin, and speaks it more frequently in the films than any other character including the elves. Is an actual polyglot, speaking four languages fluently and having a passing knowledge of six more. Personally composed and performed music for the soundtrack.
They needed someone to play the guy of all time, and they actually GOT the guy of all time.
Didn't just bond with the horses, he bought the horse that played Brego after the movie. (He also bought the horse that Arwen's stunt double rode for her.)
During the fight with the orcs at the end of Fellowship, one of the orcs is meant to throw a knife at Aragorn. There was a mix-up with the props and the orc actor threw an actual knife instead of the blunt prop. Mortensen casually managed to block it with his sword anyway.
As well as hand-repairing his costume, he also was the one who suggested Aragorn have a small bow for hunting, since he lived in the wilderness and would need one. No one else had thought of it.
It was also his suggestion to take Boromir's arm guards and make everyone cry.
He and Peter Jackson once had a whole conversation where Jackson called him 'Aragorn'. Neither of them noticed for about half an hour.
Hey. Does anyone else ever think about how the UPP kids probably move through the world like they’re always in danger, even when there’s not an actual case on their hands?
William “I have to blink manually” Wisp takes a supernatural defense go bag on everyday outings. He’s always ready, always vigilant, enough so that we know he’s had false positives in the past. Everything that moves wrong is a potential threat, and this is a boy who jumps at shadows. Everything is a threat
Norah has anxiety. Worse yet, auditory hallucinations that she has to use a camcorder to differentiate from reality. After all, any awful sound she hears could be real. She’s heard horrible, impossible yet entirely real things before. She tries to save her sanity by falling back on rational defense mechanisms, but how far can that really get her living in Deadwood?
The threats that haunt Isaac’s everyday life aren’t as illusory as the rest of the team. Fear is something that lives in the same house as him. Just existing puts him at risk of incurring punishment and the feeling of dread is probably as familiar to him as the sound of a car pulling into the driveway. His life itself might not be at risk, but that’s a cold comfort
Lui…he’s an expert on the occult. If you’re always thinking about something, you start to see it everywhere. And things only get worse with Empty Graves (spoilers below the cut) -

something about the albatrio all having older sisters that they have lost at some point in their lives just really hits hard.
Jay and Ava dancing around their room, twirling in their ribbons and bows, pretending to play guitar and drums. Ava bandaging Jays knees after she falls. Jay hugging Ava after a rough day at school. The fights they get into yet always forgave because at the end of the day being together was more important then whose turn it was to take the laundry down. Then Ava died and suddenly all Jay wanted was someone to argue about the laundry with, someone to braid her hair and bandage her knees, someone to kiss her wounds and tell her it would be okay. She just wants one more hug.
Chip and Lizzie who are always bickering, Chip is the annoying little brother that steals her things and won’t leave her alone. Lizzie who didn’t want a brother, yet can’t help but love him. Chip and Lizzie who would play pranks on the other crew members to make them laugh, who would chase each other across the deck. Then they lost each other, swept away by the current, not knowing if the other had made it out. Finally reuniting in adulthood, but it’s not the same, they aren’t the same. There is a deep sadness in Lizzie’s eye despite her outward confidence and power, theres a tense line to Chip like he’ll snap at any minute. They don’t really know each other anymore but they’re trying to.
Gill and Eydn who probably weren’t as close as they could’ve been if Gill wasn’t the chosen one. Eydn who picked him back up after every difficult day of training, who taught him to be kind and to not let the pain be who he is. Gill who swore to protect his older sister, who went into exile knowing he’d never see her again but she would be safe from him. They should have been out playing in the streets of the undersea, should have been arguing over whose turn it was with a toy. Years later they finally meet again, but they are both so changed. Gill who has become his own person beyond the prophecy, who despite everything is still kind. Eydn who has hardened with age, fighting in a war she didn’t wage. There is this horrible feeling of knowing you don’t actually know your sibling at all anymore, and that you can’t tell if you can truly trust them anymore.
Yes yes i know love is love. But they are still killing CHILDREN. over this.
Guys what am I gonna do when I finish Wonderlust. Im on ep 6 but after this I'm nearly done. Just have to finish Riptide after that, and I'm halfway done with that as well. It feels too soon to almost be finished with all of JRWI 😭
dont imagine william channeling lui and norah and isaac every time he has to come up with a plan in prime defenders, because he’s used to it being HIM who runs into deadly situations without a plan.
Now the roles are reversed and william has to make the plans , because vyncent and dakota sure as hell arent going to. dont think about how william was never the rational one, he was just the one who knew the consequences of diving in head first, because he’d lived through them first hand, and he cant bear to risk making the same mistakes twice
Above image is a pride flag with every color band represented by a NASA image. White is Earth clouds, pink is aurora, blue is the Sun in a specific wavelength, brown is Jupiter clouds, black is the Hubble deep field, red is the top of sprites, orange is a Mars crater, yellow is the surface of Io, green is a lake with algae, blue is Neptune, and purple is the Crab Nebula in a specific wavelength.
does anyone ever think about timothy rand

Coming into a fandom early and watching it become an angry clusterfuck
Being in a dormant fandom that suddenly comes alive again after a new book/movie
Don’t forget about those who come in the midst of a fandom war.

HISTORY HAS BEEN ENGRAVED INTO THIS POST
I noticed Judgement doesn't have much fanfic, or seemingly as much attention as some of the others, is it because its a shorter sort of self contained series? Or am I just missing it somehow. My metric is mostly ao3. I'm just curious cause I did like it.
Okay Total Monster Kill Time, thoughts after 1 episode and 1 just rolled with it:
love the art, still need to warm up to the plot, but I have seen allusions to a tone shift. Love the arm wrestling bit.
i’m very self aware. which unfortunately hasn’t solved anything
"[Y]our Harry Potter games are Cybertrucks" is such a good way to put it.
fishchip time... honest prediction for one of the future episodes that TWO YEARS AGO would've been a delusional thing to say, but GOOD GOD... remember, manifesting NONCHALANTLY works wonders... AHAHA
