The Good Place is an excellent show for many reasons, but one that doesn't really get talked about enough, probably because of how the season 1 twist obscures it, is that the 'No Exit'-esque "Hell is Other People" scenario for an afterlife of eternal torture is an avante garde experiment from an Auteur demon who's trying to convince the other demons of his Vision while they're like "idk man flaying genitals works really good"

Another thing that really sucks about everything online being geared for mobile use now is that desktop-wallpaper-sized images from movies and shows are hard to find. It used to be so easy, and now I can't find any of the matte paintings from the Avatar Aang movie đ
(if anyone does know where to find some of the wide landscape shots from the film, please lmk)
Okay well, since I couldn't find anything, I spent like 3 hours this morning choosing and editing screencaps from the movie. The insane amounts of skill and love that obviously went into all of these images has me ON THE FLOOR đ𧥠And now I have my desktop set to cycle through the whole folder of 97 images :D
I was thinking of sharing them here, but idk if there's an interest? Most people only seem to use phones anymore đ I'll put a few examples under the cut for spoilers. They're pretty much all wide shots without any characters in them, or if there are visible figures, they're quite small.
As an adult I think me and all my friends should all have matching schedules and work like 20 hours a week and also everyone lives within 15 minutes of each other why is that so much to ask
at some point in your life you will be boiling fruit, water, sugar, and lemon juice in a pot to make a syrup or jam. the instructions will tell you to simmer for a certain amt of time. your timer will go off and you will look at the pot and go, "hm, this doesn't look thick enough. maybe i'll let it go for another 10 minutes." this is the devil speaking. it's only so liquid right now because it is at boiling point. it will thicken when it cools down. learn from the follies of my youth and do not let this happen to you
at some point in your life you will be making a sauce or a stew in which you need to add cornstarch to thicken it. and you will prepare a slurry of starch in cold water and think "this looks like way too little starch to thicken this amount of liquid." this is the devil speaking. cornstarch instantly polymerizes at 95°C and if you add too much it will turn into an impossibly thick goop.
at some point in your life you will be making some sort of cream based dessert that requires gelatin to thicken it. and you will soak some gelatin sheets in water and think "this is too few gelatin sheets for this amount of cream." this is the devil speaking. it will thicken in the fridge and if you add too much you will end up with milk jelly
at some point in your life you will be baking cookies. you will take the sheet out after twelve minutes as the recipe instructs and the cookies will still be glistening and soft. "these don't seem cooked enough," you will think to yourself, "i should place them back into the oven until their edges are nice and golden." this is the devil talking. this is how you get dry, overdone cookies. the cookies will continue to bake on the warm sheet for several more minutes and then harden up after sitting on a rack for a while. trust the process. trust the process.
at some point in your life you will be adding a small pasta to a soup and you will think "that is not enough small pasta." this is the devil talking. the pasta will absorb the stock and expand. this is how you end up with a soup that is a solid mass of soggy ditalini.
At some point in your life you will be adding garlic to a dish and you will think "that is not enough garlic." These are angels speaking. They are correct. Add more garlic.
the "came back wrong" trope except like... they didnt. like this mad scientists wife died, and so he studied necromancy, brought her back, and she came back and it all worked. like she came back exactly the same as she was before with literally no difference. but the scientist guy is like "oh no... what have i done.... shes Different now!!!! she came back Wrong!!!!" and shes just like. chilling. reading a book. cooking dinner. shes just so so normal but in the guys mind hes like "oh shes soooo weird" but shes just normal

Mace Windu did not owe Anakin kindness or softness. Mace Windu is a Motherfucker Who Gets The Job Done, he doesnât have time to coddle Anakinâs ego. But someone needed to sit Anakin down at some point and show that Maceâs action are not rejection, but protection.
âHeâs too old/attached to be trainedâ= He is going to have a Bad Time with the current structure of the order and needs more/better support.
âYou donât get the title of masterâ= you were knighted too young and this war has caused all the padawans of the order to mature too quickly. You havenât done the things that would earn you the title of master. We are in precarious political standing, so you get to sit with us, but you need more time to grow.
âDonât come to arrest Palpatineâ= turning in a friend and mentor was not easy for you. Watching him be arrested is going to hurt you even more.
But of course, Anakinâs rejection sensitivity can only see all of this as malice and hate.
Mace sees the boy who has had everything ripped away from him. The boy that was lured away by the validation the order didnât give him. I think in ROTS, it hits him all at once just how badly he and the council failed Anakin. At his core, Mace trusted Anakin. Itâs too little too late, but when he asks Anakin to stay behind, heâs so earnest to right the wrong that has slipped by him. Of course the dark side was rooted in Anakin, and there was no stopping what was to come.

Like, that's it. That's the whole premise â just an old-school dungeon crawl where your party's explicit goal is to not kill anything, in a dungeon filled with fanciful creatures which seem determined to die at your hands.
(Obviously the particulars would be very different, as the mechanisms by which OSR class abilities might accidentally explode critters would necessarily differ from how metroidvania mobility upgrades would do so, but I think the idea has legs. Imagine a creature that dies when you search a map square for traps.)
i like a character who follows all of the rules their whole life and then ends up with big fucking nothing except their own self righteous #coping because the rules arent actually good for them or for anybody else
