Your Childâs First Day of Kindergarten

âI hope she doesnât make too much of a fuss,â you said softly to your husband, who stood next to you at the kitchen counter.
You were making coffee for yourself, and he was making porridge for your daughterâs breakfast.
âWell, weâve brought her there once, gotten her a little familiar with the place. We just have to make her comfortable with staying there without us,â
âWithout us,â you echoed, bringing the coffee to the table as Jackson sat with your daughter, placing a spoon in her bowl.
âSheâll be fine,â Jackson assured you, standing to get some tissue. He placed a small kiss on your cheek, then winked. âAnd weâll get some alone time,â
You blushed and smiled before noticing that she had started playing with the food and was flinging bits of porridge everywhere with the spoon. âJackson,â
He noticed as well, returning to her and cleaning up after prying the tightly-held spoon from her little hand.
You smiled as you watched him feed her and make her laugh, feeling genuinely happy. You loved both of them with your whole heart.
Everything actually went quite smoothly after breakfast, you three left the house without a hitch, and soon your car pulled up in front of the kindergarten.
Jackson and you got out of the car, and he carried your little girl, talking to her. âYou remember this place? It was nice right?â
You smiled at the teacher who stood at the entrance.
With some prompting from your husband, your daughter gave her a small wave. The teacher waved back.
Now came the part you were not sure would go quite smoothly. Jackson set her down next to the teacher.
âSheâs going to take care of you, alright?â you said gently to her, crouching down to her level. âMommy and Daddy have to go now, but weâll come backââ
âNo,â she protested, tears welling in her eyes.
âItâs okay, weâll come back, and there are other kids for you to play with,â
You picked her up, consoling her. âIâm still here, itâs okay, Iâm here,â
She began to calm down and you wiped her tears before handing her to Jackson.
âLetâs go inside, alright? Iâm going with you,â he assured.
You followed them in, watching as he pointed out interesting things. Smiling at your husbandâs actions, even after all these years, you still found him adorable.
The three of you approached your daughterâs classroom. It was brightly coloured, with toys in a corner, and childrenâs drawings on the walls. There were already a few kids inside.
âSay hi,â Jackson encouraged, gesturing to the teacher in the classroom after setting her down. She hid behind his leg and he laughed. âSheâs shy,â he explained.
Holding her hand, Jackson guided her to the stack of building blocks in a corner. âLook, you like these right? See?â he said, placing three in front of her, stacking up. âItâs a pyramid,â
She smiled before knocking them over.
âOh noo!â Jackson feigned distress.
She giggled at this reaction.
âHow dare youuu,â Jackson growled comically, attacking her with tickles.
After a fit of giggles, she was in a much better mood.
âSee,â Jackson began. âThis place is fun, right? And there are also other kids for you to make friends with. And the teacher will be nice to you, so be nice to her, too,â
She looked like she was about to cry again. âWeâre not leaving you for too long, okay? See, Mommyâs over there,â he said, gesturing to you.
You waved, and your daughter waved back.
âWeâre coming back to get you, and when we get back Iâll give you a gift,â
âWhat gift?â she asked.
âItâs a surprise,â he replied, mysteriously. âYouâll like it. But you have to stay here first, okay? We love you,â
He placed a kiss on her forehead, before standing up and waving. She watched him as he walked to the door and joined you.
Both of you waved, she waved tentatively back, and then you were gone.
âAlright, thatâs good,â you sighed.
âMhmm,â your husband hummed in reply. âSheâll make friends, and sheâll enjoy herself,â
You smiled at a passing couple who were dropping off their child before walking out of the kindergarten and towards the car with Jackson.
âAnd theyâll call if thereâs anything,â you added as you got into the passengerâs seat. Silence ensued and you held his hand, looking at him.
âI know itâs new for us too, to have her out of both our sights, but weâll all get used to it,â you smiled.
He smiled back. âYouâre always right, baby,â he agreed, leaning towards you to place a kiss on your lips.
âNow Iâve got to pick out a stuffed bear,â he said, starting the car. âI promised her a gift,â
âHey, what about a gift for me?â you whined, a small smile on your face.
âOh, your gift will be at home,â he replied, and with a smirk he added: âPreferably on the bed,â
