Head canon of the day:

In the years between HR and TLG Shane gets a new rookie who he notices is very much like himself in the sense that he does not like clubs or hookup culture the same way the rest of the team does.

So he takes this kid under his wing meaning that while the others are out drinking or partying Shane and his rookie stay in and chat hockey or watch tapes or just movies maybe they just talk because Shane feel safe with this kid and therefore finds it easier to talk with him.

After a while Shane can’t help but notice that the kid in question doesn’t have a girlfriend or ever talks about girls the way the other rookies do and Shane feels a pang in his chest because maybe they are a bit too much alike.

He gets confirmation of this when one day when they have an off day which coincidentally coincides with one of Ilyas. They are hanging out in Shane’s apartment just cuddling when there’s a frantic knock on the door.

Ilya leaves to go hide in the bedroom and Shane opens to find his rookie standing there with wide teary eyes. Shane sits him down on the couch and pulls him into a hug just letting him cry.

Eventually he stops but Shane doesn’t let him go then into the silence the rookie whisperers “I kissed him” and Shane just pauses for a moment before holding him even tighter and whispering back “did you like it?” The rookie only nods.

Shane doesn’t let go until the rookie is pulling away looking confused at him. “You don’t mind?” Shane gives him a sad smile and shakes his head no.

“I don’t care” Shane smiles his eyes dancing with amusement as he continues. “Was he cute?” The rookie blushes and hides his face in Shane’s shoulder.

They stay like that until the rookie tenses and pushes back again. “He’s a player” he says looking anywhere but Shane who once again is hit with the undeniable likeness between the two and makes a split second decision.

“Unless he’s Ilya Rozanov I could not care less who he is as long as he treats you well” the rookie blinks and looks back at him before giggling.

“It’s not don’t worry” Shane smiles and then purses his lips. “Can you keep a secret?” he asks and his rookie nods cautiously.

“When I was a rookie I met this boy, he was an absolute asshole but annoyingly hot. He got on my nerves constantly bragging about how good of a hockey player he was, then one day he kissed me.” The rookie was watching him with wide tear filled eyes as he listened.

“I kissed him back and guess what?” The rookie bit his lip hesitating

“What?” Shane smiled and wiped away his rookies tears.

“It took us awhile but now he’s not only my best friend but also my boyfriend” the rookie stared at him in awe for a long time after that and Shane hope that he’d helped the kid. Shane knew that had he heard all of this when he was younger maybe it wouldn’t have taken him and Ilya so long.

“Oh” his rookie breathed.

“Oh” Shane replied softly.

I heavily suspect Sherlock is going to feel isolated in season 2, like he has no idea whom to trust.

Mycroft didn't want Sherlock to look into the key. Why is that? Does he know something about Silas and/or the government's involvement in Silas' schemes?

James took the formula, and Sherlock knows he wanted to sell it. Can Sherlock trust him with what the key reveals?

Beatrice chose her mom and brothers over Silas, but she still helped in the creation and distribution of the nerve agent. She was bothered by Silas' lies, not the mass murder. Her moral compass is sketchy at best.

Cordelia is probably the most trustworthy, but she just wants her family to be together. He can't confide in her about anything that would imply he, Mycroft, and Beatrice would be at severe odds with each other.

i struggled alot over how i wanted to approach liliyas chatacter when i came to writing my hollanova feminist study fic bc i kept thinking 'oh ilya doesnt work as a woman' 'oh ilya as a character makes the most sense as a man' and then i realized. absolutely not true. liliya can be exactly the same as ilya (constantly hooking up, overconfident, desperate for the approval of her family) and it actually works EVEN BETTER its just the the world around her responds to it differently. professional hockey player ilya rozanov can have sex with 8 women a week and he can be a womanizer and a 'bad boy' but liliya rozanova can do the same thing but be a maneater and a skank. all the more reason for jane to want to hate her all the more reason for liliya to have a complicated relationship with herself. i love feminism

Scenes to Write When Your Draft Feels Flat

Not epic or climactic. Just... alive.

• A character almost admits they were wrong and then pivots • Two people sitting in a car after an argument, engine off, neither leaving • Someone practicing a speech in the mirror and hating how it sounds • A character lying for someone they resent • An inside joke that no longer feels funny • A public setting where private tension is simmering • Someone seeing their ex unexpectedly and performing indifference • A character giving advice they absolutely do not follow • A confession interrupted by something mundane • A person rereading old messages they shouldn’t • A gift that misses the mark completely • A character realizing they’ve outgrown someone mid-conversation • Someone saying “It’s fine” and meaning “I will remember this forever” • A moment where a character notices they are no longer the favorite • Two people who used to be close struggling to find a topic

If your story feels stuck, it likely needs friction. Not explosions. Just a little pressure.

something i really love about ilya is that despite his Everything on both the inside and outside he’s still genuinely a confident person like it would be easy for people to be like aww see ilya was always actually a softie i bet he’s actually sensitive and insecure and all that brash showmanship was just an act but ilyas like No. I am that bitch. hes actively crying but hes nodding to himself like okay yes my life sucks balls but at least im hot at least i am the shit. pausing his crying to flex in the mirror it makes him smile for a moment and its not just about looks either like he genuinely thinks hes so hilarious and charming and talented and successful it’s incredible
