i have a billion other criticisms about star trek aos but the one thing i'll never forgive them for is taking away uhura's whimsy. tos uhura has such a bright & joyful presence she is kind and funny and artistic and cares about her looks WHILE ALSO being smart and badass and not afraid to speak her mind (especially in the movies. i love her). aos uhura is reduced to a one-dimensional #girlboss who takes no shit from anyone yet somehow lacks enough self-respect to stay in a boring & unsatisfying relationship with a man who is so obviously not attracted to women
they also take away her sleeves. I will never EVER forgive them for taking away her sleeves.
the sleeves are IMPORTANT. they put their RANK MARKERS on their CUFFS. because it's a UNIFORM. One line of gold braid means that Uhura is a lieutenant.
What's AOS Uhura's rank??? don't know. we can't know. because she HAS NO SLEEVES.
This outfit tells me her rank is not important, only her sexy arms are important. All the GUYS have sleeves, with rank marker stripes, because of course they do.
Like. Come on. The original. from the sixties. the SIXTIES. which invented the tactical miniskirt
(although some TOS ladies absolutely do go for the pants variant of the uniform.)

On a sunny day in the displacement camps in Gaza, Saleh and Rima were playing around the tent they lived in. Their laughter echoed as they ran between the scattered tents, while the sun shone brightly on the dry ground. Suddenly, they heard a nearby scream. Saleh quickly ran towards the source of the sound, with Rima hurrying behind him.
When they arrived, they found a mother standing outside her tent, her eyes wide with fear. She pointed with her hand toward the inside of the tent, where a long snake was slithering slowly on the ground. Saleh and Rima stood in shock and fear at the same time. The gentle breeze carried the silence of the camp for a moment as the men gathered to see what was happening.
One of the men grabbed a long stick and cautiously approached the snake, while Saleh stood next to his little sister Rima, trying to reassure her that everything would be alright. The men managed to remove the snake from the tent and drive it away from the camp.
After the situation was resolved, Saleh and Rima returned to playing, but this time they were more cautious, moving with watchful eyes, aware that their lives in the camp were filled with challenges and surprises.
