No, he’s not subtle, bless him. Thank God the Sharks finally have some more physical players who will be protecting the young guys. And to be fair, this isn’t just a Will issue. I’m not too worried about the regular season, they can hold their own. I'm going to be real with all of you, whenever I watch one of the videos from Will's and Leno's NTDP era or even their Boston College era, I don't see the "mean girl" and "sad kicked dog" narratives a lot of people see. I see two teenage boys that were in an extremely high control, cult-like environment that were under constant surveillance and pressured to perform under extremely high expectations. Add to that the pressures of standing out in college hockey and getting drafted in addition to performing your masculinity for your peers so you don't get ostracized. And with all that in mind as background context, they're put in front of a camera by these same people dictating their every waking moment and told to perform so these videos can be used for marketing purposes. Like, of course they're stiff and awkward, they know they're being watched.

What I'm getting at is, when we watch these older videos, instead of using them as definitive proof for what Will and Leno's characters are and what their dynamic is/was like, we should be asking whether or not they were even able to truly be themselves at that time.
