Was just thinking about this the other day. Yeah I have a favorite seat on the bus (middle of the bus, near the back doors, slightly elevated, facing forward), but I don’t get upset if someone is already sitting there, I just pick one of my other favorite spots. i was obsessed with the eruption of mt vesuvius as a kid, you know, ad 79, destruction of pompeii, the good shit. anyway when i was 9 my aunt was living in naples in italy and we went to visit and she was like do you want to climb mt vesuvius. and i was like hwaaa? you can do that? and she was like yeah i actually do a marathon up it every year let's go. so me and my mum and aunt and cousins all trek up this volcano in the middle of summer and it's yknow, a volcano. very hot and full of rocks. and we get to the crater and we're looking down into it and i'm like woah... this is what destroyed pompeii... and my aunt is like yup. got 'em good. and my little 6 year old cousin pipes up 'what would happen if it erupted now??' and me and my aunt just immediately, in the exact same tone, say 'we would die.'

today i redesigned my old character development graphs to make them a lot more accessible and easy to use! i've always wanted a visual resource to build the general outlines of a character's personality, so i tried to create some templates that could be used for tons of different scenarios, no matter what kind of universe your character exists in! these can be filled out in ms paint, with a multiply layer or however you choose - feel free to use and repost them for your ocs, or even use them for canon characters!!!

the thing about the whole "should old timey narrators count the servants as People" discourse that goes around ( that is, should a person consider themselves Alone if they have servants) is that every time half the examples are like "oh alas would that I had a friend to tell all the hot goss and talk about my feeeelings" and like yeah screw that , your servant doesn't need to do that free therapy but then the other half of the examples are like "alas that I have no one to tell about the Skull Eating Horror of Knobblington Range, which is coming to eat the skulls of everyone in this curséd abode" and honestly I think those narrators should bridge the class gap there and face a little social awkwardness in favor of avoiding the inevitable Chapter X: The Skull Eater Ate The Servant's Skull

I keep remembering a run of Hamlet I saw a few years ago, where the Ghost was costumed in full plate armour which was very noisy, and instead of muffling it, they had him crash across the stage, stomping so the whole set rattled, and he said all of his lines in a bellow, like he was furious with Hamlet.

And the thing that made it absolutely terrifying was that Hamlet was the only one who reacted. He was cowering, and covering his ears with both hands, and yelling to be heard over the noise.

And no one else seemed to know why he was doing that. The other actors didn't even raise their voices.

That's scary, something so loud and painful, and REAL, and the people around you don't even notice it, and think that you're the crazy one.
