the best fanfiction you've ever read was written by a woman in her 40s before she made dinner for her kids. it was written by a teenager after school when they should've been studying for a history test. and a barista came up with the idea while they cleaned the espresso machine and busser fact-checked it on their break and the post-doc edited between writing grant proposals and the nurse apologized for typos in the notes after a long shift and behind every drabble and one-shot and multi-chapter fic there is a person with a wonderful and interesting and chaotic life and it is such a privilege that we get to be apart of it because they decided to do this thing we all share, for fun.
can't stop thinking about this movie tbh..
can you imagine how good shows would be if writers thought of women as human beings
Youâre allowed to celebrate the small moments of your journey just as much as the big transition goals. Did you find a pin today that affirms who you are or makes you happy? Did someone get your name right today, or did you find a name that makes you go âwait, thatâs me!â when you heard it?
Did you have fun with a queer friend today, did you help show someone something they were interested in understanding? Did you find a cool event in your city, or find a new queer blog to support?
Every step towards making your life a little easier, and a little more joyful, is worth celebrating and focusing on just as much as the darkness in the world. Itâs the little things that make us who we are, sometimes. You donât need permission to celebrate joy.
ways i make screen-free hobbies inexpensive and remove focus on consumerism:
-i trade books with friends who also like to read
-drawing with cheap supplies, talens a5 sketchbooks cost like 5 bucks and i just use a simple pen and no other tools most of the time in mine
-doing all of my journaling, drawing, scrapbooking etc in 1 book instead of getting expensive ones or a journaling ecosystem
-going for walks outside is the best hobby there is and it is free
-if you own a printer or can print at a library, you can print out free coloring pages online instead of buying the books that go viral on tiktok
-also you do not neeeeeeeeeed alcohol markers just use whatever markers/colored pencils/whatever you have on hand or can get for cheap. you don't need to paint the mona lisa in a coloring book.
-puzzle books are very cheap, but you can also print out puzzles to do.
-thrifting things like yarn and craft supplies, asking around if anyone has hobby stuff they don't use anymore and trading with them for hobbies you've lost interest in
-be patient with aquiring new hobbies and supplies. don't jump into a new thing impulsively just bc its trendy, but take time to think about if you actually Want to do this thing/if you would even enjoy it
-dont feel the need to post your hobbies/crafts/artwork/book hauls online, so you dont feel pressure to always have the trending, viral, perfectly pristine supplies and artworks but can be imperfect safely in your own space
Honestly it boils down to reparenting yourself & rewiring your own neuronal pathways & telling yourself a firm âstopâ when you notice your mind slipping down negative loopholes & being present in the moment & enjoying being mid task rather than waiting for it to end & not thinking of inertia as your baseline and natural way of living
So tempting to keep embarking on the same self destructive cycle over & over & over again . But at some point you have to put ur foot down w ur own behaviors & be the thing that truly saves u
#this is unfortunately true#itâs not easy to tell yourself Hey Drop It#like youâre your own dog furtively eating pinecones and rocks#but you gotta#sometimes itâs a Hey Weâre Not Doing That#you gotta though
Love how tumblr has its own folk stories. Yeah the God of Arepo weâve all heard the story and we all still cry about it. Yeah that one about the woman locked up for centuries finally getting free. That one about the witch who would marry anyone who could get her house key from her cat and itâs revealed she IS the cat after the narrator befriends the cat.
Might I add:
The defeat of the wizard who made people choose how theyâd be to be executed
The woman who raised the changeling alongside her biological child
The human who died of radiation poisoning after repairing the spaceship
The adventures of a space roomba
Cinderella finding Araura (and falling in love)
I donât know a snappy description but the my nemesis cynthia story certainly lives in my head
hilariously, these are almost all in my fic tag. so, a compiled list from the notes (and some extras):
The God of Arepo (graphic novel 1 / 2 / 3) (ebook)

WAIT REBLOG THIS VERSION INSTEAD
and guess what @staff and @changes?
NONE OF THESE WOULD HAVE HAPPENED WITHOUT REBLOGS
To be trans is to change for the better.
one of my favorite lotr facts is that gondorians speak sindarin as a first language and yet when faramir was talking to frodo and sam about cirith ungol he was like âwe donât know whatâs in there.â like faramir. cirith ungol is sindarin for âpass of the spider.â do the math
some of my favorite tags on this post
Donât forget that Frodo also speaks Sindarin, which makes this even worse.
Faramir: Hey, donât go up the Spider Stairs.
Frodo: Why? Whatâs up the Spider Stairs?
Faramir: We donât know, Frodo. We just donât know.
to be fair, youâd assume the name means âthereâs a lot of spiders here,â not, âthere is one spider the size of a draft horse here.â so you go up expecting to have to shoo a lot of skeeter eaters out of your tent, and instead you have to figure out how to rope and shoe godzillarantula.
HmmmâŠ
They do live in a world where godzillarantulas feature prominently in mythology and history (Ungoliant plunged the world into darkness, scared the crap out of Sauronâs old boss, etc) and existed within the last century in Mirkwood. Assuming they ever talk to anyone whoâs been to Mirkwood. They⊠probably know they were giant spiders in Mirkwood pretty recently? Itâs hard to figure out how much anyone in Middle-earth has been talking to anyone else when we didnât actually see it.
On the other hand â what if itâs the giant evil spidersâ prominence in history/mythology thatâs causing trouble? What if lots of evil/nasty things/places get called âspiderâ just to indicate how nasty and evil they are, rather than any association with literal spiders, and itâs just⊠overloaded? Maybe the bad part of town in Minas Tirith is the Spider District. Maybe every tavern trying to be edgy calls itself the Spiderweb.
Actually spider/Ungoliant references could be really appealing to Gondorians trying to be edgy. Theyâre dark and evil! Plunged the world into darkness! But they ARENâT involved in the war theyâre actually fighting, they arenât directly associated with Sauron at all, so getting too interested in them would be creepy without being potentially treasonous. Because no oneâs ACTUALLY going to worship those dangerous but not epic spiders up in Mirkwood, and no oneâs heard anything from any proper spawn of Ungoliant in ages and ages.
In fact, spider/Ungoliant references might be appealing to ORCS trying to express that something is nasty and creepy! Nobody likes Ungoliant.
Maybe Faramirâs been to fourteen different Spider Caves across Ithilien, and half of them he didnât even see regular spiders in, theyâre just dark and damp and may have had orcs at some point, or something, and at some point in history someone got spooked. So you know, itâs POSSIBLE Spider Pass has something to do with spiders? But really it just means people donât like it.
(The problem with this theory is we never actually SAW anyone overusing spider references. But itâs plausible they would!)
âThe average spider on Middle Earth is the size of a dinner plateâ is a statistical error. The average spider on Middle Earth is smaller than a coin. Cirith Ungol (lit: Spiders Gorge), which contains a spider larger than a horse, is an outlier adn should not have been counted.
OH MY GOD
I was waiting for the Spiders George reference
âI wonder why itâs called ââThe Spiderâs Passââ. I expected it to be more octagonal. Like a spider. Oh, well, I guess they misnamed it.âÂ
im going to give them the benefit of the doubt that they thought âthe spiders stairâ meant âits a bitch to climb if you arent a goatâ and not âwarning- ungoliantsâ their whole world is full of issues like this- every third place has a spooky ass name that you arent sure if its a euphemism, accurate, or was accurate 3000 years ago. nobody realizes âfangorn forestâ means âtheres a tree named fangorn who lives here, its his forest, he likes poetryâ, nobody realizes âthe barrow downsâ should be warning you that anything is particular noteworthy about the barrows it just says they exist, im not even sure the âblue mountainsâ are even blue
I mean sure but also we donât need to WONDER if Frodo (and incidentally also Sam, although I donât think he knows Sindarin so he wouldnât have known it was relevant, but he would have had the same context as Frodo) knows about the big spiders in mirkwood, because THEY ARE IN BILBOâS BOOK WHICH HE HAS READ
literally Spiders Gorge

worst part about being stealth is occasionally your philosophy lecturer will come out with something so raw ("the potential for change always comes first, you are your capacity to change before you are a boy or a girl or a student") and you just have to pretend to be normal about it
why didnât gandalf just carry the ring to mordor himself with these tongs
like iâm picturing him being really careful and looking at it and carrying it exactly like this while walking or riding through the woods and across rivers and up mountains and through valleys and he doesnât drop it even once except at the very end where he tidily drops it into the volcano. frodo sam and the crew and even gollum wholly undisturbed. sauron canât find him bc of the meditative aura surrounding him which is generated by his immense focus on not dropping it
