dimension 20, misfits and magic

Evan & Jammer - love the friendship between these two, and I love them in a shippy way. Just would love to get to see these two spend some time together. The duality of man every time Evan opens his mouth and it's going to be a new level of tragic backstory or, you know, a rattled off factoid off the dome about the earth's biome. Meanwhile Jammer is just. Such a social, competent guy that it all bounces right off of him while he takes it all in stride. I can't get enough. Brennan said in one of the talkbacks that he sees Jammer as his “make it so, number one.” I would love to see some of that, either in school or in adulthood. I also think post school they’d make great roommates.

Whether or not they are portrayed as shippy, I would hope there would be minimal K in the story, or that they and Evan are not romantically involved. (The more Sam, the merrier, though!)

Brennan & Lou - I love Brennan and Lou's friendship, and I love them in a shippy way. Okay to mention any regular or semiregular d20 cast members. Lou has mentioned communal summer camp living in a post-ep talk, and I gotta say, Lou, I don't hate it.

I think they have such long term improv history with each other and they both have impeccable timing, and in my heart, that translates to on and off the court. Yes and to adventures in the city and to cabin days. Would love to see a glimpse of one of those D&D cabin weeks where they play with their vacation squad. I think they probably have a lot else in common, and would love to see them get to kick it when not focused on DND, too.

in other lands - sarah rees brennan

I loved this book when it was a weekly "short" story and growing out of hand. I feel fondly about all of the kids in the tagset, because all of their dynamics are top notch. I have been in love with the line "That was love: Elliot couldn't command it, couldn't demand it. He could only leave the chill echoing place where it was not." since I first read it.

Elliot has his feelings for Luke and the complicated mix of things he’s felt for Serene and for other people. The way this book did exes was important for teenage me, and the heart and humor got me through many rainy days.

the murderbot diaries

The Murderbot & ART friendship is worth getting out of bed over. Both of them having their people, relying on each other, prioritizing their co-adminhood. Swoon.

I would love to see them enjoying their little friendship rituals and introducing each other to new media or new friends and generally being annoying and indispensable to each other.

My heart has been clanging off the hook about these three since book one. If you don't feel shippy about all three, I'd still love to see those complicated bonds at the forefront. 

There's a scene from the green docks, where Rune and Brand are talking past each other, triggered by each other and unable to articulate why, talking at cross purposes, and Addam is able to cut through the red tape of that and help them get to the heart of what's wrong -- that's the good shit. 

Anyways. I love to see them parenting and fussing, and you know, just generally being a family. 

One other thing: I have always considered is that Brand is the nightlight of safety to Rune. One (shippy OR nonshippy) but just .... codependent companion nonsense scenario could be a Rune that can't seem to settle in and feel safe enough to do (insert intimate act of your choice) with his man Addam without Brand to stand guard in the boudoir.

I love this whole family. You do not have to include all of them but Katsu is the light of my life. Both men went though so much trauma to get where they were going and I hope to see them having some lighter times. (Also feel free to give Mori his senses back.)

It is never intentional! I am a real dumbass and if I hadn’t been wandering from projects my pal and I were working on together, there would have been a smarter babe in the room to fix that for me 😂 i do struggle to keep consistent tense. What, the forest-dwelling entities with imperfect human mimicry who insinuate themselves into groups of hikers? Yeah, we had one of those. Clocked it immediately, of course. It's a misconception that the mimics are hunting humans when they trail along at the back of hiking groups.

In fact, the creature you'll find suddenly walking beside you and acting as if they've always been there is almost certainly a juvenile, as the adults lose the ability when they reach reproductive age.

Recent studies suggest the forest mimic is less like a preying mantis (mimicry as a hunting strategy) and more like a cuckoo (mimicry as a protective strategy for their young). Adult forest mimics will leave their offspring near a group of hikers while they forage during the day, and retrieve them near trailheads in the evening. Groups of hikers provide safety from predators and allow the parents of the species the freedom to forage more widely.

For this reason, the traditional advice to never let a mimic into your vehicle is still very important, as this would separate the young mimic from its mother. If a juvenile forest mimic does follow your group to the parking lot, you can keep it entertained with trail snacks, dad jokes, and simple goofs. The mother will usually collect them shortly before sunset.

When you notice the woods around the trailhead go silent and feel a sense of nameless foreboding, find an excuse to avert your attention from the juvenile so it can sneak back into the forest to rejoin its mother, convinced it's fooled another party of unsuspecting humans.

The midjourney stuff just reminds of when we were trying to find a new platform to host the ao3 donation form, and companies kept trying to tell me about all their "ai" features that would track donor engagement, and figure out the optimal pattern to email individual donors asking for follow up donations, and all the ways they suggest we manipulate people into staying on our websites. It was a great way to filter out who either wasn't listening to us when we described our ethics and donor base, or just didn't believe us.

Now granted ao3 is a unique case based on a) the amount of page views we get in any given time period and b) the fact that most donors absolutely do Not want to be identified as such anywhere, (the default "list of recent donors" module got nuked Immediately) but it surprised me some that the concept of "donors who value their privacy and would be furious at even the whiff of AI" is unique. Some of us really are just existing in different worlds.

And I said, no, we have been asking for a completely separate database. I should not be able to see both. And they said, you are one organization, one organization can't have two databases. And I said, last year someone used our volunteer email list to commit approximately one thousand felonies. Please feel free to imagine how much worse it could have been had they had a way to use volunteers' email addresses to get their legal names. We do not want this to be something anyone can do no matter how much we trust them. Let me describe those felonies to you in more detail. And they emailed me two hours later and said, you can have two separate databases.

I recommend keeping an emergency check in your wallet in case your card gets lost/stolen/declined or the internet is down or whatever and you need to pay NOW. For instance, for your mechanic or plumber.
