murderbot and arts first meeting is literally so funny. like imagine you meet a biblically accurate angel and instead of being all 'be not afraid' it says actually you SHOULD be afraid. and then when you are in fact afraid it goes oh shit oh fuck. not THAT afraid, sorry. wanna watch tv? and then you watch tv with it and it keeps telling you to pause it when its favourite characters are in danger so it can calm down. and then it asks to do surgery on your bones. Sometimes you need to make uncomfortable choices

My uncomfortable choice is which the fuck pronouns to use when talking about Murderbot in my native language.

The options are two: use he/him (because "bot" is a masculine noun, same like idk. "a car" or "a being" or "a thing" (but unlike feminine "a person" or "a boat") (or neutral "a sun" or "a tree" or "a child"))

Second option: use it/its (neo)pronouns with knowledge that a) "its" is the same as "him" AND, more importantly, it/its pronouns are a very common set used by nonbinary people (that make it "it/neopronoun")

Now. Is Murderbot nonbinary (like some *human*?) or is it an it/its because it's a construct/unit?

I assume the second because it's very clear that it's not a human and gender is a *human* thing (we don't see any construct that decides to use different pronouns then the ones that signify they are an object and honestly? I think MB would be judgy of them) (they/them used bc that theoretical construct doesn't use it/its)

So. Would MB use a pronoun set that doesn't treat it as an object? Would it use a set that would be a deliberate choice to be gendered in a nonbinary way? Is it nonbinary? Because grammatically speaking when you use neutral declination next a grammatically masculine word it's a choice

I think the answer is no. Others can think differently of course but... I just don't think that it/neopronoun is right for it. Official translation did do that (or maybe it was "internally it uses it/neo and outwardly people use he/him", idk I only saw fragments) but I feel that if anything it would be better to make any entirely new pronouns set for all constructs than to use one typically used by nonbinary *people* (but where is the boundary between an object that is treated grammatically "normal" and one that gets a construct pronoun?)

(I'm not forgetting that in English some people use it/its pronouns but we are talking about assumptions in my native language)

Personally when talking about MB I use masculine declination of verbs and adjectives, and avoid using "he", instead saying "MB"

It feels uncomfortable sometimes! Because it didn't "do(masc)" anything but an object that is an actual thoughtless object with no preferences would totally "do(masc)" something! But would it want to be treated differently by human language? Inside it thinks in ways incomprehensible to humans anyway. So it probably would prefer being treated as an ordinary object. Would it?
