"only 90s kids remember-" wrong, if you're poor and/or rural enough, old tech and fashion doesn't just disappear when it stops being trendy. We had dial-up until 2012
Collins is gone.
Namaygoosisagagun First Nation/Collins has burned to the ground. The entire community is nothing but ashes after being quickly consumed by wildfires. They did not have any support from emergency services, and no one offered aid. The community saved themselves by escaping into boats because no one came.
Mishkeegogamang and Cat Lake have lost power. Families are ending up in shelters with nothing. Armstrong, Lac La Croix, Whitesand, Gull Bay, Lac des Mille Lacs are currently in the fires path and all members are being evacuated.
All this loss, all this devastation, and it was entirely preventable.
After steadily underfunding wildland firefighting and purposefully excluding Indigenous wildland firefighters and Indigenous wildfire organizations from wildfire operations, firefighter training, decisionmaking, and resource exchanges, in 2025, Doug Ford slashed the forest firefighting budget.
It's hard to ignore his decision to cut funding and leave us out of adequate fire training (even though we've lived with forest fires for thousands of years—far longer than settlers have been in Canada—and made sure fires like the ones we're all seeing today were prevented through kinisitotēn) when, despite making up less than 5% of the population, we account for 42% percent of all wildfire evacuations in Canada.
And when we are successfully evacuated, we face discrimination and racism—like Kashechewan—because it's always been easier to blame us than it is to blame the true culprit: denialism, corportate greed, and colonization.
The people of Collins and every other impacted community deserve better.
Right now, the AFN is currently accepting donations to help Collins First Nation. If you're able to, please consider donating.
ONWA (Ontario Native Women's Association) is another great place to donate to. They have outreach vans going to motels and inns and offering food, water, resources, and cultural support to those impacted by the wildfires.
Other places to consider donating to are Mikinakoos Emergency Fund, Red Cross, True North Aid, Indigenous Climate Action. You can also send donations directly to Whitesand First Nation via e-transfer ([email protected]) and they request that you add your full name in the e-transfer comment section to receive a tax receipt.
*Before sending money, verify that the appeal appears on an official First Nation, Tribal Council or registered charity channel.
If you can't offer financial support, please consider donating items of need. Moontime Connections is currently accepting drop-off donations. If you live in the Thunder Bay area, Namaygoosisagagun Health Office is also taking in donations! They can also bemailed to Superior Inn Hotel & Conference Centre at 555 West Arthur Street, Thunder Bay, ON, P7E 5P8.
items needed are: food, diapers, medical masks, men’s and women’s joggers (all sizes), children’s clothing (newborn to size 14), children’s shoes, summer clothing, men’s clothing, toiletries (lotion, Vaseline, toothpaste, toothbrushes, shampoo, conditioner, soap, deodorant, etc.), strollers, adult depends-all sizes, dog & cat food

since we're on the bad faith interpretations and doomerism website let me preface this by saying i myself have also been a victim of the usamerican healthcare system and understand how crazy awful and expensive it is to get good care, or any sort of treatment at all
but there is a sort of medical doomerism that exists because of these difficulties that i think actively dissuades people from getting the care they deserve, and this issue compounds on the other issues and really needs to be addressed. despite how doctors may act to you, you are the expert on your symptoms. not necessarily what is wrong with you, but what you are experiencing, and you are allowed to say no to your doctor. you are allowed to get a second/third/fourth opinion and shop around until you find a doctor who believes you. in fact in my shopping around i have found a lot of doctors love it when you throw other doctors under the bus, if worded strategically. it's very similar to that strategy of "well my friend thinks it's this," it puts you and the doctor on the same side of trying to rule out or confirm an issue against an unrelated third party.
again, i understand the barriers. it is expensive and time consuming. not everyone can do it. yes. i understand. but it is possible to get a doctor who believes you and actually get treatment for your problems, and that is something you deserve, and it also something you need to believe going in or you're going to give up before you get the chance. it is exhausting and demoralizing to wade through the bullshit, yes, but there are good doctors trapped on the other side of this system who can get to you if you keep trying as best you can. it's not easy. it's not accessible for everyone, which is a huge part of the problem. but it is possible.
more people really need to be taught about how to feel a sense of agency as a patient. the fact no one teaches or explains this to us is a huge issue. but one of the first things I learned after my hEDS diagnosis (that other people! including doctors!) told me was I am the captain of my own care. Every doctor I see is part of a team of people I consult with regarding my symptoms and care. If they're not a good teammate, you can get another one. Shifting this worldview has dramatically changed my relationship with healthcare and the efficiency of my own doctors' appointments, which radically improved my care.
i dont know. like, guys. i have a complicated relationship with this. on top of hEDS, i was born with a rare condition that's about 1 in 10,000 births that would have left me blind had doctors not intervened quick and early before I was even a toddler. I grew up seeing a doctor every four months who meticulously tracked my extremely rare and specific issue that could take a nosedive at any time. i saw him every six months up until is 30-year retirement. at the same time wading through all the bullshit that was the rest of the system. i have a hesitancy to write off doctors and the healthcare system as a whole because the work of doctors shaped my entire life and quite literally how i see.
it is possible, and you do deserve the care, and you cannot let the hopelessness talk you down from getting something you deserve, or even imagining that you can.
And like. I don’t disagree. I need to have more agency. I need to advocate for myself more (I shouldn’t need to, but that’s a separate problem; we’re addressing the world I actually live in, today). But I don’t know how. As you say, nobody teaches us, and I don’t know where to find help, and so I can know that I need to do those things, and still be unable to do them.
So if anyone has tips, or scripts, or resources, or anything else that will help me pick up an entire new skill set when I don’t have any spoons to spare…
please. Please drop them here
I was medically neglected for SEVEN years by my original primary care physician. The only reason I found out is because they closed my local planned parenthood and I needed to find a new GYN to remove my 1st IUD anf I just *happened* to see a place not far from where I lived so I stopped in to see if they were taking new patients and if they had a female doctor (I had 1 experience with a male GYN and that was enough for me) She's a literal life saving angel of a women. I won't see any new doctors unless she, or the new primary physician she hooked me up with recommend them. This woman took ONE look at my medical history & was like "what is this? What is happening? This is all wrong" She diagnosed the issue immediately, started me on meds THAT DAY, sent me to specialists, got me into a clinical trial, and this miraculous woman REMEMBERS that I work midnights and will call me at 1 or 2 in the morning to tell me if she needs to change my dose or if she has more free samples of the medicine I take, she will leave it in a drop box outside her office & call me to tell me to pick it up on my way home from work.
TLDR; all you need is ONE good doctor to make a difference in your life. Keep looking until you find one that actually listens to you.
why do americans think everyone on the internet lives in the same place as them. just saw someone say honeybees are "not native". not native to where????? the entire planet?????
saw a photo of garlic mustard somewhere on the internet once and americans in the comments were like "fun fact this plant is invasive so you should definitely tear out any you see, WITH THE ROOTS so it won't spread!" whole fucking time i'm living in garlic mustard native range. i don't think i will be doing that.
This drives me absolutely up the wall in r/birdfeeding. Every time there's a picture of a house sparrow, the entire comments are filled with americans talking about them being invasive and how they should be basically killed on sight. But often OP has not provided a location, and house sparrows have a HUGE native range. Here in the UK they're not only native birds, they're on the decline, they need our help and protection.
Me every time I see a post saying that you should destroy your lawn and cram a bunch of native plants as closely together as you can instead. Look, I'm not saying lawns are native to Australia because they're not, but our native plants evolved to burn; they are dry, their leaves are dry, and they're full of oils. If you plant native plants the way Americans tell you to that's a fucking fire hazard and you are endangering yourself and your neighbours next time we have a Black Summer.
My friend @ryttu3k linked me a great PDF on planting a native Australian garden in such a way as to reduce its status as a fire hazard!
tapping onto this, Ry's guide is for a specific part of NSW. Australia is a very very big place and there is a lot of biodiversity. So don't take one guide as The One True Guide because I used to be a ranger and lemme tell you, trying to stuff native plants in terrains they are unsuited for just creates a mess for everyone. Honestly, just google "native planting <your council> " and they will have a guide that is specific to your area.
Can America send their house sparrows to the UK? Is that allowed? *me, looking for a net & a box that will fit many sparrows* what uh...? Does anyone know how much shipping live birds costs? I might need to crowd fund this...

False. I hear about them ALL THE TIME but idk anything about them except that ya'll said they were in love and they said "no we aren't" for a really long time before finally going "psych! We've been in love the whole time!" And everyone else was like "yeah, we know. We're not even mad you lied about it. When is the wedding?"
the justification when law enforcement kills someone for no particular reason always boils down to “we got really really scared, you should feel bad for us because we were sososo scared” ok. piss yourself or scream or something. why is killing someone the only option
American cops are very badly programmed. Gun is the only interaction they have.
You forgot texting their buddies pictures of decomposing murder victims, saying heinously racist and/or misogynistic stuff and ‘accidentally’ turning off their body cameras.
Sorry whats this about texting pictures of murder victims???
Oh did you not know that the majority of cops (at least in the US) are just like.... really bad people??
Good Morning and welcome to Michigan.
Tomorrow is Not Available.
If Dreamlight Valley is meant to be our player character's dream world, then when we log off does that mean our character "wakes up"?
That is the prevailing fan theory
I kept forgetting my nighttime antidepressant so I set an alarm where the sound was a recording of me saying "HEY. TAKE YOUR FUCKING PILL" because I thought it would be funny. It was funny about three times, and then it started making me mad and I'd dismiss it right away to make it stop. So I handed my phone to my partner, who made another recording sweetly saying "Okay Shira, it's time to take your medication" and now I don't get mad anymore and I take my pill. The "compassion over punishment" camp has gotta get something wrong one of these days
Getting down on my knees and thanking the humans who invented dishwashers and washing machines.
InsNe that dishwashers are more efficient and easier than just washing them manually but they also use less water. It’s a win win situation
They ALSO sterilize dishes, due to operating at a far higher temperature than human hands could ever tolerate. It's a win every way.
Made this post about 15 minutes after the repair guy who fixed the pump on my dishwasher packed up his tools and left, as the dishwasher was whirring along doing my dishes from that morning.
He said the exact same thing, which I did not know before that, so spreading this knowledge.
You can replace [ACTIVITY YOU ENJOY] with [SCROLLING] but watch out. This sucks bad 👍
Some things about this post since getting quite a few notes:
1. If you see this post, highly recommend taking it as an opportunity to set a timer for 15 minutes and switch over to ACTIVITY YOU ENJOY. if after those 15 minutes, you want to go back to scrolling, that's okay!
2. Huge shout out to this popping up in my notifs often, bc I do go back to activity.
3. I think there are times where scrolling is fine. Right now, for example, I'm being connected to a machine for two hours to donate plasma and platelets. Yes this is a brag but it is also a time where scrolling is one of the few things I can do. (Though I will probably also read or watch something on phone lol)
hmmm, this seems to be some kind of curse breaking spell… be free ye reader
God damnit. I was just reading a post with Twitter screen shots where people were trying to argue that the hobbit is not a children's book and that children could never possibly comprehend or something like that and my feed refreshed and now I can't find it 🙃
I translated the Ea-Nasir complaint into vulcan and engraved it in on a cooper plate
The tumblrest sentence I have ever seen
I’ve watched so many speculation videos about the coming DLC for DDV (the underwater one) and not once have I ever seen someone suggest Atlantis.
It just had its 25th anniversary.
Atlantis is the most popular theory I've seen lol. Personally I'm hoping for the Neverland mermaids.
I love them.
there are few experiences more disappointing and embarrassing to be had than when you manage to convince yourself that something was loaded with erotic subtext and feel like the most intelligent sensitive pervert on earth, only to realise that was only the case because you misread or misunderstood an essential element of context which completely transforms if not outright removes any hint of eroticism
ohhhh okay so i just straight up hallucinated it like a desert mirage. i AM too horny and it IS making me stupid. the 1890s called; there's someone named sigmund freud on the phone who'd like to talk to you about these dreams you've been having.
