Ilhan Omar: The Left Doesn’t Understand the Issue, and the Right is using it to push an agenda
This Ilhan Omar situation is so ugly and so messy. And I’m disappointed in how both sides handled it (I mean I’m always disappointed by the right, but). So I’m gonna point out some major points that I saw were some serious issues with dealing with this issue:
This is not a “party issue” Ilhan Omar, is one single woman, that yes is in the Democratic Party. This is NOT the Labour Party where it’s a group wide issue of using antisemitic dog whistles while doing their job (hopefully! I mean the Democratic Party is definitely not RIGHT now like that, let’s hope it stays that way). This does not mean that the Democratic Party does not hold responsibility to make sure Antisemitic language is prevented in future politics.
The Right and Republican Party have no right to condemn the Democratic Party of their antisemitism especially with Steve King. It is hypocritical and it is clear they don’t actually care about Jewish people, but about debasing the Democratic Party, this does not mean any of you (Leftist) Gentiles have any right to attempt to lead the conversation away from Ilhan Omar and to other antisemites across the aisle because you believe “the Right is more antisemitic” (they aren’t BOTH sides are equally antisemitic just in different wayside and saying this as a Gentile is wayyyy out of your lane)
You do NOT as a Gentile say whether or not this is antisemitism. I cannot stress this enough! You DO NOT, yes, even if a Jewish person says it’s okay, to say whether what Mrs. Omar said was antisemitic. It is a fierce Intracommunity discussion that you have no PART in, you do not get to define the oppression of a group you are not!!! Apart!!! Of!!! I don’t care if you think it’s iffy, keep your opinions to yourself. We will decide, all you need to do is understand that SOME/ENOUGH do find it offensive and you need to stand with us and our voices while not engaging in this conversation.
This is not the first time Mrs. Omar has said something with antisemitic tropes, she was on thin ice previously for comments she had made mere weeks ago, it’s not about the single isolated incident but the pattern. Sure if this were a one time incident whether or not this comment was antisemitic would probably be less of an issue, but this a pattern for her. And that’s where the REAL issue lies, she has said other things that have a 100% been antisemitic, that even your own Gentile friends can acknowledge “yeah that wasn’t good” so now she has said something that can be interpreted as antisemitic, and with that pre-established pattern we are less likely to believe this one single comment that can be interpreted as antisemitic is not antisemitic.
Please stop trying to make this about islamaphobia at this point and time. There are islamaphobic Jewish people out there that are using islamaphobic language to condemn her, and yeah, that’s bad call that single Jewish person out. But it is very problematic to say “if she weren’t Muslim would there be this much of an outage ?” And though the answer is probably yes, and we do need to talk about this but maybe not when said person has JUST made antisemitic comments and people are trying to deny said antisemitism. It feels you are again trying to shift the conversation away from the issue at hand and attempting to pit Jewish people vs. Muslims. And before you say “Nooo we are talking about anyone condemning Ilhan Omar. That includes non-Jewish people.” But this is a Jewish issue where the biggest voices of condemnation ARE Jewish. And it a constant thing especially in America to have a Jewish vs. Muslim, where Jewish and Muslim people are pitted against each other, a narrative that in it of itself is islamaphobic and antisemitic. This is about someone having a pattern of antisemitism and making antisemitic comments. Call out Jewish people and Gentile allies using islamaphobic language, but do not attempt to steer this conversation into a discussion about Islamaphobia when it’s about antisemitism.
Everyone, I am in tears. 10 minutes away from my apartment in Christchurch, New Zealand, a shooting happened at the mosque. A gunman opened fire on the Muslims 10 minutes after Friday Prayer began. Another mosque was targeted and a hospital in Christchurch. There is no gun violence in New Zealand, and I am absolutely shocked at the horror of this event. Please pray for everyone in Christchurch, New Zealand.

every year after you turn 17 you get further away from being the age of the dancing queen and that’s my least favorite thing about growing up
exCUSE ME. DOES THIS LOOK LIKE THE FACE OF A WOMAN WHO’S CONCERNED ABOUT BEING TOO OLD TO BE THE DANCING QUEEN??
Fuck your age, put on your high heeled boots and a pair of overalls and do Meryl Streep proud.
You are the dancing queen.
Hot take: Seventeen is the age at which you get crowned the Dancing Queen.
Being older than that isn’t years away from being the Dancing Queen, it’s how many years your reign has lasted.
wow being a jew is super cool just like jews are super cool
if it really was about israeli policy, you wouldn’t bring “the jews” up every time israel came up
if it really was about israeli policy, you wouldn’t bring it up as a way to counter antisemitism claims
if it really was about israeli policy, you wouldn’t focus your energy on only one country with injustice
if it really was about israeli policy, you wouldn’t use antisemitic tropes and canards
if it really was about israeli policy, you wouldn’t feel so defensive when jews criticize what you say regarding whether or not it’s even accurate
if it really was about israeli policy…
but it isn’t.
so much of the time, it isn’t.
so maybe it’s time for you to just admit that you’re antisemitic, and stop hiding behind the antizionist label.
# WHOEVER MADE THIS IS GOING TO BE FUCKING TAKEN OUT BY THE GODDAMN KGB
This is it. The video that made memes illegal in Russia. Reblog it every day to piss Sadimir Putin off.

i love to headcanon steve as this aggressively progressive dude but like, he begged to be part of the us army,,,,,, we can’t just Forget That
He joined to literally fight Nazis the fuck you on about?
Minecraft lore is deeper than i remember
he was also like 20 and the Internet didn’t exist so besides the fact that fighting the Nazis was one of the few good things the military has ever done, just mayhaps Steve wasn’t fully briefed on the sins of US militarism and imperialism
I love that y’all think tha white people in the army in WWII joined to fight the evils of the Nazi party and not because of nationalism. The US sent minorities back to Germany to be gassed and only got involved after Germany threatened us.
captain america was created by joe simon and jack kirby, two jewish second generation immigrants. you can argue about what the character has come to represent culturally today but it’s absolutely insensitive to erase what the character was supposed to represent for the creators at the time.
hell this is the image on jack kirby’s wikipedia page next to the “entry into comics” section
it was absolutely a political statement, and one that positioned america against fascism, against antisemitism, which is more than we can say for some modern media or even the orange stain running our country
I would also like to add, he was introduced, like this, while the USA was not in the war, and was selling weapons to Germany -among other things. It was a very dangerous, very unpopular statement to make at the time. People love to do the ‘punch Hitler’ thing now, but when Captain America was first released with this cover, this was an extremely controversial statement.
Captain America was created in direct response to how the USA was reacting to the war at the time as a direct call to action against injustice specifically. Created by two Jewish men who were very much affected by all of this. They specifically designed him to look like he did because that was the ““Aryan Ideal”“ as part of that statement. That is why they made him blond, blue-eyed, white, tall, and muscular. They also called him ‘Captain America’ to implicitly tie the United States to this statement. This was a metaphor of ‘The USA has to stop letting others be hurt, it’s time to step up and do something’.
It’s not only insensitive to erase that, it’s Antisemitic to call a Jewish-made character that was a political statement against antisemitism in the 1940′s by people who were fed up with watching their loved ones die while people said they ‘shouldn’t get involved’ in a massive, global genocide attempt a ‘symbol of military industrial complex imperialism and nationalism’ when he was made as a symbol of resistance and a call to fight fascism and antisemitism.
Has anyone mentioned yet that American fascists were so pissed about Captain America that some American Nazis showed up at the Marvel offices to “show what Real Americans would do to Captain America”. Jack Kirby literally rolled up his sleeves and would have beaten the shit out of them if they hadn’t run off by the time he got to the lobby.
Like, fuck you if you refuse to accept that JEWISH AMERICANS created a character that is intended to protect Jews and other marginalized groups.
After some good dick……
more like
breaking bad, fight club, rick and morty, clockwork orange, and the catcher in the rye are all arguably good things - but if a man says they are his FAVORITE book/movie/tv show? RUN.
Can someone explain this to me?
They’re all works that are examinations of compelling but deeply flawed (usually narcissistic and violent) men. People rightly like all these works because they are good, but the implication of the original post is that if a guy says they are his favorite work, he is probably misunderstanding the point of the work and instead idolizing the male protagonist and is unable to recognize their flaws.
Basically, ask why they like it. If they like it because they think it’s well-written and made, you’re probably good. But if they want to be like Walter White, or Tyler Durden, or Rick Sanchez, or Alex DeLarge, or Holden Caulfield: yeah, RUN.
Finally I can reblog this post.
This also goes for Mad Men, run like hell from any guy who identifies with/idolizes Don Draper
“It’s a satire. Many don’t get that… My daughter had a friend named Max. She told me ‘Fight Club’ is his favorite movie, I told her never to talk to Max again.” David Fincher, director of Fight Club
i love student housing. i’m in the common room waiting for a friend and there’s some dude crying on the couch w a bunch of his friends around him and i can only hear bits and pieces but someone asked him “who gets the minecraft server if you guys break up?” and he started crying harder and a 3rd person reached over to smack the guy who asked it on the back of the head
