finally thinking of having a new pinned post because my previous standby was soothing but uninformative, and a few things probably merit more clarification than will fit in bio. will edit if more come up, though also am not particularly expecting anyone to read this before interacting. don’t say you weren’t warned though I guess.

I tag for some common triggers I’m aware of (just the words, no cw/tw prefix or suffix) but not for ‘nsfw’/‘nsft’ text or images, and am unlikely to ever do so

if you follow me and want to request I tag for something specific, please message me; I might or might not say yes but I don’t mind being asked and don’t need to know reasons

in general I tag pretty consistently for my own reference but often idiosyncratically. if you don’t understand what a tag means it’s probably an in-joke. or I’m cleverer than you, or an annoying dickhead. whatever you need to believe.

I always use alt text or other descriptions for images and gifs I post, try to go into the notes of popular posts to find an image description, and sometimes add one myself, but am pretty inconsistent about the latter. big accessibility fan please use alt text/IDs! and feel free to repost or reuse any IDs elsewhere in a thread.

I object on principle to DNIs but have no scruples about using the block hammer, which is likely to come down if I see someone reblogging stuff to piss on the poor and/or be exclusionary, or frankly just an energy vampire

The funniest part of A New Hope is that Luke Skywalker is a 19 year old who has not locked in yet and plays with toys and sleeps in his childhood bedroom at his aunt and uncle’s house and Leia Organa is a 19 year old with a mission to save the galaxy from fascism. Luke has never left his hometown, Leia just watched her planet be blown up. He’s peeved his uncle is asking him to do his chores, she’s imprisoned for resisting the government. You relate to them both but they’re on complete opposite sides of the 19 year old life stage spectrum.

Yes! Some people have misinterpreted this as me insinuating Luke is a wimp but he’s just in a very transitional life phase that is focused on growing and maturing. His friends are growing up and moving on, he’s anxious to join them but isn’t quite ready. He has ambition and goals but he just isn’t in a place where he is able to pursue those goals, he is immature and that isn’t a bad thing. 19 year olds SHOULD be able to ponder their place in the world and which direction they want their life to take. Leia has been in the public eye her entire life, she is a princess, she has been primed for greatness and she has been shouldered with so much responsibility. Luke is just his aunt and uncle’s nephew, they love him and don’t want him to leave, he’s trying to decide what to do.

also i probably can’t explain it right but i love that the first time ed and stede hold hands properly, it’s the way childhood friends hold hands. there’s something so earnest about it, right down to ed’s wide-eyed look when stede first touches his hand. it’s not quite innocent but it’s definitely searching, a shy connection, so sweet and gentle and perfect for them both. they don’t thread their fingers together - although i’d love that later, absolutely - stede just slips his hand into ed’s and they hold on, and then it becomes a little thumb war which leans further into the very core of their connection: just wanting someone to love and play with. they’re always seeking to have fun together, even at their most intimate and emotionally vulnerable. it’s something i absolutely adore

(sidenote: also love that this means they end up holding the fish together after ed’s whole “can’t catch a fish unless it wants to be caught” speech, we love metaphors upon metaphors)

Or maybe the black man who got labeled a rapist because he came on to another man's wife, and he decided to get back at him by charging him with rape?

How about the 17 year olds who were fooling around, fully consensually, in one of their bedrooms? That's still technically underage sex and thus rape of a minor.

Oh, or maybe you're talking about the doctor who performed genital reconstructive surgery in a state that just voted to get that classified as rape?

People will do everything they can to get you convinced rape and pedophilia are the worst crimes possible, then accuse whoever they like the least of being either a rapist, a pedophile, or both, counting on you turning on them just for being accused of the crime.

"Oh, so you're saying you don't want to kill a serial rapist?"

That's exactly what I'm goddamn saying.

Once we decide a group is okay to kill, the government will do everything they can to convince you that their political enemies are either part of that group, or just as bad as that group, to get you to kill their enemies for them.

The only way out is to accept every life as worth saving.

EDIT: If you're going to go on this post to say that no, you think you really should be allowed to kill people you decide are rapists and/or pedophiles, I'm going to block you. I have already been blocking you, because it's clear that you aren't willing to engage with what I'm saying.

Also, if someone says something like that we'd be better off with rapists being dead BUT that they won't let that opinion shape their stance on public policy, and you reply to that person to accuse them of wanting to murder people, I'm also going to block you, because what the fuck that's a completely different sentence.

EDIT 2: Since so many people seem to fail basic reading comprehension, let's state it again, in different words:

1. Killing people is bad.

2. Killing someone can never be undone by any means we have.

3. If the government can kill people, they will want to kill their political opposition and other undesirables (WHICH CAN INCLUDE YOU PERSONALLY AND ANY IF NOT ALL OF YOUR FRIENDS AND FAMILY).

4. If there is a class of people OF ANY TYPE who the government can LEGALLY KILL, they now just need to convince you their enemies count as that class (ever wondered why there's so much emphasis on claiming gay people are pedophiles? Now you know!)

5. If there is a class of people OF ANY TYPE that the public can LEGALLY KILL, murderers just need to convince people that their victims counted as that class (I murdered him because he's a rapist. Anyway now his job is free promote me into that position plz.)

6. As pointed out in the notes (thank you everyone pointing this out!), if the penalty for a crime is death, people are much more willing to silence witnesses to that crime (for example, murdering their rape victims), which is EVEN WORSE than just committing the initial crime.

7. THEREFORE the only way to keep those from happening is to have NO category of people it is considered okay to kill FOR ANY REASON.
