[girl in a low cut top voice] i just dont know what it is but everyone is being sooo nice to me today….[grows grave and guarded] they’re conspiring against my reign and they think me a fool
i like when a story has multiple major characters who are extremely important to the plot and close to the protagonist but rarely talk to eachother. like its just relatable to me. who hasnt had a 'best friend of my best friend' relationship. a 'guy whos in all my group chats but i genuinely dont remember their name sometimes' relationship. now imagine going on a quest to save the world together. incredible vibes.
i'll always make fun of how stupid the "born evil baby" trope is but truly it is such a wretched trope i hope it dies forever
it's like the perfect package of "child you are allowed to harm" and "easy way to not interrogate how commonplace child abuse is". thank goodness this child was simply born wrong, we never have to examine the conditions they grew up in.
WE HAVE GOT TO START LOVING THE PROCESS MORE THAN THE PRODUCT AGAIN
Why so many wolf attacks in fantasy. Where are the Boars. The immortal and humongous Boar
sometimes i be saying im gonna go to bed and then i dont go to bed. frequently in fact. this is because i have the heart of an optimist and the soul of a liar
some of my OCs are trans but I don't know their deadnames. that's personal, they don't need to tell me that
being nonbinary and a fan of non-human creatures isn’t easy. like i’m constantly struggling with the fact that i’m both like “i wish there was more enby representation in humans” and “i’m the same gender as mewtwo and that fucking rips”
the tension between “representing NBs only as nonhuman characters is dehumanizing and othering” and “but monsters, aliens, and robots are so much cooler than humans”
media trope that makes me want to throw up and cry is when a character realises there's no way they're making it out of a situation in one piece. and in a single moment they accept it and turn to their distraught loved ones with The Smile. you know The Smile. sickening
PETITION FOR ALL LOVABLE CHARACTERS TO STOP DOING THIS SHIT. IT BREAKS ME.
the key to avoiding symbolismslop is sincere, thoughtful intent btw
it's fine to create art that has deer skull god (she/her) (queering it) pomegranate sun/moon symbolism in it but you need to ask yourself, why a deer skull and not another animal? what does queering it add to the text's portrayal of religion? why a pomegranate specifically? are the sun and moon the most appropriate celestial bodies to represent the meaning i'm trying to convey to my audience? what am i trying to say here?
"it looks cool" and "everyone else is doing it so i guess i should as well" are the creativity killers. inspiration requires introspection otherwise it's just imitation!!!
+ as the notes have pointed out being open to critique is also the fuel of creativity, not the antithesis of it. inviting interpretation only increases the space you have to work with and respond to!
i love you skin strokes i love you intertwined fingers i love you entangling your hands through someone’s hair i love you sitting so close to each other that you’re touching i love you mindless side hugs i love you soft touches i love you casual intimacy
There was a character in a book I read once who was described as "handsomely fat" and that phrase is stuck in my brain forever. The author really was like "no shut up, they're charismatic, they're good-looking, they're handsomely fat. not just handsome AND fat; them being fat is directly contributing to their good looks. you agree." and they were RIGHT
I just saw a story on AO3 tagged "pet p!ay"
TIK TOK MUST BE STOPPED BEFORE IT DESTROYS LANGUAGE
Ok, unless something's going on I'm not aware of (extremely likely), I gotta point out the term "Pet Play" is significantly older than Tik Tok, or most of its userbase for that matter.
Yeah, I'm not mad about using the term "pet play". That's a perfectly fine term. I'm mad because they didn't use that term: they used "pet p!ay", a censored version
Oh. Oh gawd I missed that. Objection withdrawn, that is objectively terrible.
To anybody who is new to posting on ao3, if you’re using a tag you have to use the correct spelling of that tag. People aren’t going to type in every version of a censored word to hide or look for your content
For everyone new to tumblr, the same rule applies to tumblr too.
You cannot censor your tags! Censored tags cannot be block or filtered. Censoring tags HARMS your audience, it does not protect them
Reminder: if viewers can't block your tags because you're using censors, they will wind up blocking you. And then none of your content is seen, rather than just one post being hidden.
DO NOT CENSOR YOUR TAGS. TUMBLR DOES NOT CENSOR LANGUAGE. YOU CAN SAY KILL OR RAPE. DO NOT UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES WRITE R@PE OR K*LL OR ANY OTHER CENSOR.
my favourite response to any kind of conflict is "i'll kill us both" because how do you even respond to that? i'll literally kill us both
A game with a dark and quirky fairytale vibe - not in the "Grimm versions were the originals akshually" style, or in the "what if we took the disney version and made it SiCk AnD tWiStEd?" style, but in the real old style, where dark and scary things happen sometimes, seemingly for no reason, and that's just what life is like, and sometimes the only way that there's any goodness in the world is by being good, even when it's inconvenient, not fun, or you simply really didn't want to.
And instead of princesses and monsters, the quest of the game is rescuing your stepmother from your evil dad.
If human ethnicity didn't exist and function the way it does, and someone made it up as worldbuilding into some kind of tabletop RPG, people would complain that it's unrealistic because it's just too implausibly cool.
Like yeah these people have spread all around the world in all different climates so the ones from different climate types have different kinds of physical features, that are inherent and don't change when they move from region to region, so they're still going to look distinctly like their ancestors no matter where they live. Like they're all the exact same people but you can kind of tell where their ancestors lived 10 000 years ago by what sort of climate adaptation quirks they have.
And yeah no the different traits don't just get averaged out into something neutral if two people of different ancestry have kids together (which happens literally all the time btw), their kids inherit a random combination of their traits. Someone who's so black they're almost blue, with tightly curly black hair, and someone who's so white they're almost blue, with ash pale flat straight hair, can have two kids and one of them is almost white with slightly warmer amber tone and very curly type of hair, and the other can be almost as dark as the black parent but with green eyes.
And you can pretty much mix and match that shit almost any way. Like there are statistically more likely outcomes but you can literally have human people who have almost any combination of ancestral traits. It's possible for someone to look very distinctly East Asian except for having red freckles and brightly copper red wavy hair. Saw two kids exactly like that at an airport once.
there's a jewish story about a rich man who goes to his rabbi to ask him about building an orphanage, and the rabbi is like "yeah duh go for it!!" and then later the rich guy comes back and is like "actually I've decided not to... I was just doing it for my own image and not coz I cared about orphans" and the rabbi was like "bitch the orphans don't care why you're building the orphanage!!!" and sometimes I wish I could say that to lefties who haven't unpacked their christian upbringing. sometimes motives don't matter!! who give a fuck why a politician wants to do a good thing? bitch the orphans don't!!
