Please report asks that sound like "I want to use one of your photos in [insert project here]. You will be compensated, please contact me [other BS]." Check the source first, obviously, due diligence is key, but I got this ask on a sideblog where I don't post anything original so yeah. Fake
Unions are trash. Theyll Destroy a whole company for firing a shitty worker.
unions are the reason you aren’t paid 2.50 an hour with steel beams about to bust ya head open shut up lol
Unions are why you have 5 day, 40 hour full-time work weeks. Unions are why they have to pay you in actual dollars instead of “company credits” that you can only spend at the company-owned stores. Unions are why there are fucking fire exits at your place of work. Unions are why it’s not okay for your supermarket ground beef to be any percentage human.
You think your company pays you out of the goodness of their hearts? Or even out of “market pressure?” The “job market” is a myth perpetuated by the capitalists. Corporations would pay you nothing if they could get away with it. And you argue “oh, but if they paid me nothing I’d just go to another one.” Wrong. Because to maximize profits, they all want to pay you nothing. Corporations exist to maximize profits while reducing risk for investors. It’s part of their entire function to find ways to cut costs as much as possible, and that includes finding ways to pay you nothing.
Unions are your defense against that. You think all a union does is strike? If you pay union dues, a lot of that is spent on lobbyists in various governments reminding your lawmakers that you have rights as a living human being that a corporation should not be able to stomp all over. Unions hire lawyers so that if you’re fired for bullshit reasons, the union can stand up for you against your boss. They’re called unions because workers are uniting to pool resources so that they can stand up to these corporate overlords with more money than God. Unions exist because you might not have the words, resources, or time to fight workplace injustices all by yourself. That’s the whole fucking point.
And if a business shuts down because a union is striking, it’s because the business was abusing people and didn’t deserve to be in business anyway. Don’t make excuses for the corporations. They already have trillions of dollars and a couple million lawyers to do that for themselves. They don’t need your help.
The erasure of labor history from US history curriculum has caused so much fucking damage to this country.
Bosses: If you don’t like how we do things, don’t work here.
Workers: *Go on strike*
Bosses: Wait no not like that
A lot of union folk very literally fought and died for the workers’ rights we have today. Like no joke, bosses would hire goons to straight-up murder unionizing and striking workers.
All the most basic workers’ rights we have today were all paid for in blood. And conservatives have never stopped trying to take them all away again.
NEVER FORGET THAT LABOR DAY IS ACTUALLY ABOUT. I know people who legitimately think it’s like a secondary mothers day - you know, for going into labor.
But it’s about workers rights and the people who campaigned for it to be a holiday knew this fucking day would come.
If you are in the US and about to celebrate a 3-day weekend, thank a goddamn union worker.
Every single day we don’t have transparency, the value of copyright loses ground and the harms inflicted to creative industries grow. Calif
California followers, please consider signing this petition in support of bill AB 412. It would require GenAI developers to inform copyright holders of how their materials are being used, and is supported by the Animation Guild and the Concept Art Association.
I know a lot of us (myself included) would prefer an outright ban, but I think increased transparency is an important first step in the process of regulating GenAI and protecting creative jobs in CA.

I have been organizing a charity fundraising campaign titled Artists for Immigrants. This charity campaign will fundraise money for The Coalition for Humane Immigrant Rights (CHIRLA), a nonprofit organization that provides essential legal services and advocacy that safeguards immigrant rights. This event is in response to the injustices that are currently impacting our beloved Latino community across the country, including imprisonment without due process and racial profiling. To support immigrant rights advocacy, organizing, and defense, myself and 20+ participants have banded together to raise funds for CHIRLA through art commissions. Along with the charity campaign, we will be building up to a live, 12-hour charity art stream on Saturday, August 9th, from 10am to 10pm! The stream will spotlight several artists throughout the day while they illustrate commissions and help raise additional funds. During the live stream, we will also share resources on how viewers can help and support their immigrant communities as well as showcase why diverse voices are so important. Commissions are now OPEN! To request a commission from any of the participating Artists for Immigrants, please check out their announcement post. Don’t forget to like and share as well! so many projects happening!!
it wasn't "some reason", it was 2D animators being unionized and 3D not being unionized. and the simple truth that capitalism kills art.
I remember when 2D faded out, the reason studios kept giving was "it's because 2D is a lot more expensive to produce". I was a child back then so I didn't think too much about it, assuming it was about the process itself, but as I grew up and learned more about art as an artist, and gained friends who were professional 3D artists themselves, I started to question it. Because 3D is very different from 2D, but it's definitely not easier or faster to make. Also, both European and Asian studios kept producing 2D animated movies
The answer was unions. The answer wasn't "this kind of art is cheaper because it's easier to make", it was "this kind of art is cheaper because these artists can't force us to pay them correctly"

Defend the Internet Archive
PLEASE REMEMBER THAT YOUR DONATIONS ON CHANGE.ORG DO NOT GO TO THE SUBJECT OF THE CAMPAIGN
That means that when you donate, it goes to change.org. Now, this isn't useless — it does mean that the petition gets boosted. However, you're pretty much doing the same thing by reblogging. I am concerned about people donating something like $40 dollars since I'm not sure if they realize it doesn't contribute to the legal fund or not.
If you want to donate to the internet archive's legal fund (and help with operation costs), then you can click here to go their donation page

Video essay by Jellybox about what's good and bad about indie animation!
Wanted to share this in case it's helpful to anyone wanting to pursue making animation independently. It's also for fans of indie animation who may want some insight into how an indie studio works, why indie cartoons are always selling merch, why release schedules are often erratic, etc.
I also wanted to clarify the video's context, because it seems to have been somewhat misconstrued in some circles. Not long ago, WGA and SAG strikes, followed by TAG negotiations were very much in the news, shining light on the struggles the artists, writers, and actors in the Hollywood studio system are facing. In response, the words 'just go indie' have been tossed around quite a bit lately.
Gene and Sean at Jellybox approached us a few months back explaining that they were planning to make a video about the realities of running an indie studio/producing indie animation, largely in response to that 'just go indie' attitude. They were curious if we'd be willing to share our experience, including information about actual costs and the various difficulties and complications we've encountered. We said yes! We'd like for people to know what it's like. As much as it might look appealing next to the currently very broken studio system, indie has its own set of problems, and we think it's a good idea to be transparent about that because talking about problems is how you begin to address them.
Of course, while you get creative freedom and you have no shareholders to appease with indie production, the primary struggle you're always going to face is funding…and funding avenues are limited. Banks aren't eager to hand out business loans to freelance artists making cartoons, for instance. Social media algorithms reward frequent updates you can't swing with hand-drawn animated content, so you can't rely much on things like AdSense. You can't really insert sponsored ads into your animated videos without being too obtrusive. You can take on client work, but that interferes with your ability to focus on own animated project. Crowdfunds can be great for seed money, but they're also a ton of work to fulfill, and fulfillment itself will tend to eat up a considerable amount of the funds you've raised. Once your animation is produced, there is no well established way to sell the animated episode itself like there is for, say indie games sold on Steam. So, while we consider ways to try to make the terrain a bit more hospitable to indie creations, if nothing else, let this explain why productions rely a lot on merch drops!
-----------------
And hey, if you're an animation fan, consider supporting the independent productions you enjoy, whether you're tossing a few dollars their way, buying their merch, or just mentioning them to friends:
The Far-Fetched team is launching a crowdfund very soon to help them complete their pilot!
The Monkey Wrench team is killing it lately, and they deserve so much more fanfare than they've gotten!
And of course, thank you to the excellent folks at Jellybox for starting an important conversation!
Jordan (@/indiedynamo.bsky.social) is a beloved member of the Animation Community who tragically lost his brother, father, and home in the Eaton Fire this week.
He's spent the week hospitalized and will need help rebuilding his life. Everything helps, please consider donating and sharing!
Hi, everyone. My name is Andrew, and I’m reaching out on behalf … Andrew Edwards needs your support for Help Jordan Rebuild After Eaton Fir
To be clear this is an actual conversation happening in Netflix meetings lately. People aren't watching new shows and they're also getting tired of the old shows.
Ngl I think live action remakes are just as much of an insult to live action filmmakers as it is to animators,,, because like
In addition to basically saying animation as a craft isn’t taken seriously and isn’t a good enough medium to tell a good story…
Live action remakes also imply that live action filmmakers aren’t good enough storytellers on their own and need to use animated works as a jumping point to make anything iconic…which just…sucks bro
I’m an animator and I’m super out of the loop on iconic live action films, but live action film is a really cool medium! And forcing it to just be a soulless copy of animated films is quite frankly insulting to live action filmmakers, who could probably make new and something super interesting that would utilize the medium better.
And like I know that as a whole live action film is taken more seriously than animation, and that to some extent live action filmmakers might be allowed more freedom than animators yadda yadda but like
My point is
Filmmakers, animated and live action, are super awesome and shouldn’t have to live in each others shadow, live action remakes are an insult to both mediums (as well as a waste of resources and talent), and all filmmakers should get to be the little freaks they are and make whatever weird shit their little heart desires
