i used to work at a used bookstore and there was an insect anatomy book for sale that was over $8000 im not even kidding. and i just found it at my school library. its mine for the month.
It’s page after page of the most detailed illustration on insect morphology I’ve ever seen
External anatomy only I’m afraid, but an absolutely invaluable resource nonetheless
It’s called An Atlas of Insect Morphology by Steinmann and Zombori. Looks like there are some much cheaper options now than when I last looked. When I saw it in the bookstore’s system I thought it was a pricing error but I remember looking it up and seeing one for sale that was over $10,000 so I was like okay then. I could only find pdfs from university libraries I don’t have access too. So I’m glad my school has a physical copy.
Idk if I can describe how useful this book is. It’s all illustration. The only text is the labels. I have a really nice book on insect anatomy but it’s like your classic textbook
Like very useful but it is still a pain to flip through a thousand page book looking for images but it’s mostly text. There aren’t nearly as many diagrams. It doesn’t show you nearly as many angles. It doesn’t show or label even close to level of detail the one above does.
In case anyone hasn’t read my tags: I’m going to scan this whole book and make it into a pdf. You all can have it for free. It will take a while. Bear with me.

I had an aunt who dressed like these ladies and she identified herself as a “stud” , a word used in the lesbian community to identify a level of masculinity. My aunt had to endure sexism, racism and scrutiny more than I can imagine. She was “out” during the 50s and 60s, waaaay before the famous LGBT Stonewall riots that took place in NYC.

Femme and Butch have been used by bisexual people since the terms were fucking created. Femme and Butch have NEVER been “lesbian exclusive” terms. Exclusionists and radfems are lying to you. Femme and Butch are our terms too.
They weren’t even female exclusive when I was growing up, and into the late 2000s. Like people of all genders within the community could call themselves fem(me) or butch. Butch and fem guys were a thing. Butch and femme nb people definitely were.
My gay grandfather who died in the early 90’s called himself butch and exclusively dated femmes.
For real though, we don’t need new terms. The old ones work fine, they were never lesbian (Or women) exclusive terms. They have always been used by the whole community. Demanding bi people begin referring to themselves as animals when they were always included under butch/femme is beyond biphobic and it’s real gross. Demanding they become lesbian exclusive robs huge portions of the community of talking about inter-community prejudices, and their identities which they have used for decades now. Hell, splitting men, nb, and women into totally different terms is weird too.
Butch/Femme were always for the whole community, and the whole community gets to use them. Every part of it.
Yes, queer people of all kinds can use butch and femme, but also… don’t police people’s language in the other direction either? I know bi people who genuinely like these terms and I think they should be able to call themselves whatever the fuck they want. It’s not cringe, it’s not internalized biphobia, it’s not “absurdly specific” “pokemon” whatever-the-fuck, and mocking all of this so openly amounts to discouraging young people from questioning, experimenting with, and playing with their identity and presentation
You can point out that femme and butch are open to the entire queer community without shitting on people’s preferred terms. They’re not hurting you
ur right actually. i could have worded this post differently as to not disrespect ppl who actually want to use them. my response mostly stemmed from the fact that ive only been introduced to these terms by having them forced upon me, along with seeing other bi ppl(usually women) being told to use them when they wish to use femme&butch. also from like, knowing these terms were made bc a bi person was told they couldnt use those terms, so these identities were birthed in order to replace them. but again, yeah, you’re right. totally possible to respect bi folks who want to use them. i dont really agree with folks in my notes shitting on bi ppl’s preference for these & constantly mocking them

Indigenous Australians have had stories about giant kangaroos and wombats for thousands of years, and European settlers just kinda assumed they were myths. Cut to more recently when evidence of megafauna was discovered, giant versions of Australian animals that died out 41 000 years ago.
Similarly, scientists have been stumped about how native Palm trees got to a valley in the middle of Australia, and it wasn’t until a few years ago that someone did DNA testing and concluded that seeds had been carried there from the north around 30 000 years ago… aaand someone pointed out that Indigenous people have had stories about gods from the north carrying the seeds to a valley in the central desert.
oh man let me tell you about Indigenous Australian myths - the framework they use (with multi-generational checking that’s unique on the planet, meaning there’s no drifting or mutation of the story, seriously they are hardcore about maintaining integrity) means that we literally have multiple first-hand accounts of life and the ecosystem before the end of the last ice age
