he found a kitten!!
love it when an extremely high-functioning and put-together character gets slammed with something that would topple any lesser person but continues to function in an alarmingly efficient manner while everyone who knows and cares about them flutters anxiously around them like "please lie down please rest please accept medical attention" while the high-functioning character just looks askance at all their concerned faces like "what are you talking about? I'm perfectly fine" as tiny cracks start appearing in their demeanor and facade
if youâve been following me for 4+ years iâm certain you could make a chart of every character iâve gotten attached to and it would tell you more about me than any therapistâs notes ever could. but we donât have the time for that. there are other things at hand. do not even worry about it. next exhibit. weâre moving along. weâre walking

I'll give u a hd: Danny doen't have an ice core, he has an adaptable core, that's why he can make ecto-electricity (ghost-stinger), ecto-ice and ecto powered sonic attaks (ghostly wail)
*Kicks down door* ADAPTABLE CORE
okay Iâm sorry but this headcanon is one of my babies and Iâve put a lot of thought into it SO IF YALL DONâT MIND ITâS TIME TO SCREAM
Adaptable cores are the thief of ghost cores. For all intents and purposes, they steal useful powers from the other ghosts they encounter. For Danny, his most obvious one would be the ghostly wail; he only got it after encountering his evil future self, who had taken ten years to gain the power. Ghosts with cores like this are incredibly rare, and almost impossible to truly discover; their core will disguise itself as the dominate type in an area when examined. Technically, there is no power an Adaptable couldnât steal- even those that have influence over time.
However, that explanation incredibly general and glazes over plenty of details.
Adaptables donât actually steal powers in the sense where the original ghost doesnât have them anymore. No, all the core does it exam the residual ectoplasmic energy left by the power. It then mimics that, and from there learns to create the energy necessary to use said power. This process can take anywhere from a couple hours to a couple years. If the host is in immediate danger however (ie, Danny surrounded by a bunch of ghosts who have been been beating the crap out of him and pretty much intend to torture him until he dies), it will speed up significantly.Â
Adaptables, like most cores, will do whatever it takes to help their host survive. Theyâre just significantly better at it. If messing with time itself was necessary to keep them in existence, and it could find even a trace of the energy needed to use it, the core would develop the power in a matter of minutes. Thatâs how it works with all powers; if the core can figure out the energy needed, they can use it. In addition, if having a certain power will put the host in danger, the core can make it âdisappearâ until needed again.
I find this hc VERY intriguing and if you donât mind, just reading this is fleshing out a more detailed picture of ghost lore and history in my headâŚ
Back in the day when Adaptables were more common but going into hiding due to being discovered and hunted for their cores, there must have been a fear of powerful abilities being stolen. It doesnât help that âback in the dayâ was when a tyrant ruled the GZ and feared a successful rebellion. One of those rebelling was an Adaptable, one of the Ancient ones as you said, and Pariah mustâve known about the disaster that could pose, so after a lot of reasearch, a countermeasure was discovered.
Adaptables could copy powers from another ghost, but powers infused into an item circumvented this OP ability.
This is how the Ring of Rage and Crown of Fire came to be, and how the risk of placing a large pool of oneâs unique power into material things, with the potential to be stolen, still outweighed the danger of having it copied and stolen by someone (or a whole group of someones) just standing in the Kingâs vicinity or on the other side of the battlefield, and then discovering they had an Adaptable core when they got the Kingâs red ectoplasm or OP fire powers to use it against him. At least the items could be guarded against theft.
This method was later used for several other purposes. Family lines with unique bloodline abilities used it to keep the abilities in the family, hence Doraâs and Aragonâs dragon medallions. The Ancients also used it to seal away very unique powers with dangerous potential, like Clockworkâs medallions that allow one to exist outside of time, or the Infinimap that allows instant travel whenever and wherever. On that note, is CWâs staff allowing for time manipulation or is it CW himself? Or is it both, as CW was the last Adaptable to get that power before it was sealed away? Questions questions. It can also be argued that this method was used to prevent a godlike being like the one you described from coming to be⌠or preventing another one from popping up again? Who even knows but the Ancients and Clockwork. However, if some ghost developed the power to forcefully take away anotherâs and put them into an item, then the absence of this godlike being and the existence of the Reality Gauntlet might speak for itself.
People asking Phantom where does he hang out when heâs not patrolling and stuff and heâs âfuck I gotta pick something completely not connected to the Fentons at allâ so he points out an abandoned well, not thinking about the horrifying implications even once
The citizens try to pressure Mayor Masters into investigating the well (respectfully, since it might be Phantomâs final resting place), and obviously Vlad doesnât want to do that because he knows Phantomâs lying
But it just makes Mayor Masters look hella suspicious
Vlad ends up yelling at Danny for what itâs doing to his career, Dannyâs annoyed because he didnât even know any of that was happening so he doesnât think he should be yelled at for it
When Mayor Masters finally gives the okay for the well to be investigated and hosts a press conference by it, Phantom is there, clearly agitated by Mayor Mastersâ presence
Of course, including that and whatever they unearth from inside/nearby the well, it just continues making Vlad look extremely suspicious
Sam & Tucker, both knowing thereâs nothing up with the well thatâs actually connected to Phantom: They should leave the well alone out of respect because itâs his final resting place
Dash & Paulina: And just let our mayor get away with murder????
May I propose that there actually is a dead body in the well? One sufficiently different from Phantom to raise even more questions.
Please, I need this in my life.
They find a dead racoon in the well and no one knows what to think
Why IS Jackson hiding in a closet tho? ya know,, beyond the obvious reasons

Day 13: Regret.
Danny, thatâs not very reassuring.Â
Okay @phantasmalbeans I wasnât going to participate in Dannymay this year but then this kept post reappearing on my dash so I couldnât help myself, so take this unedited drabble for what it is.
â
She felt her heart stop as the rings of light disappeared.
The boy leaned against the wall behind him, and blood poured through the fingers clamped over his chest. Heâs a ghost, her brain whispered, and the gunâs plastic casing rattled with her suddenly trembling hands.
âIâm okay.â His words were soft, but strained, and she wasnât sure if he was trying to convince her or himself as a steady stream of red streaked down the stomach of his white shirt.
He stared at her for a moment, eyes wide and lower lip pinching between his teeth. The blaster drooped in her grip and she lifted her goggles off her face, eyes burning as her stunned brain pushed past the unexpected transformation and finally realised who exactly was leaving streaks of blood on her laboratory floor.
âDanny?â
He swallowed, then took a shaky breath and glanced at the bloody hand clamped over his chest before meeting her eyes again. âIâm okay,â he repeated, as though saying it enough times would make it true. âDonât cry, itâll be alright.â
The electric lights were suddenly far too bright, and tears dripped off her chin as Maddieâs heart clenched so tightly that it felt like she couldnât breathe.
She took a step forward, stopping again when Danny flinched.
They both stayed there for a moment, harsh breaths mingling in the space between them, and he winced. âSorry, Mum. Iâll⌠Iâll be okay.â He pushed himself up where he had begun to slide down the wall. âPlease donât cry.â
His eyes, wide and blue and familiar, darted from her face to her hands. She followed, staring at the gun as horror wound through the spaces in her ribs and squeezed tightly around her lungs.
âDanny?â she whispered again, and he gave her a shaky smile, pressing both hands harder against his chest.
âUh⌠surprise?âÂ
The gun clattered to the floor, and she threw herself onto her knees, pressing her hands over his. âSweetie, Iâm so sorry, itâs okay, youâre gonna be alrightâŚâ
He smiled again, mouth tight with pain, and clasped her forearm. His fingers left bloody streaks on the waterproof fabric. âYou didnât mean it,â he said, as the colour began to leach from his cheeks. âItâs alright, Mum, you didnât mean to hurt me.â
A dark, nasty corner of her mind reminded her that yes, she most definitely had meant to hurt him, but she ignored the thought and concentrated on the boy in front of her.
It didnât matter why sheâd shot him, only that she had. Whatever her son was, whoever he was, could be dealt with later. For now, she pulled him into her arms, and lifted him off the bloody floor. He gave a pained whine at the movement and her heart clenched.
Sheâd fix this, even if it killed her.
As Maddie carried her son over to the bench, she kicked the gun across the floor, and it disappeared into the darkness beneath a shelf.
She never wanted to see it again.
i think the worst thing in the world is seeing two characters with something weird as hell going on between them and you think to urself "wow i love the weird as hell thing these characters have going on between them" and you open archiveofourown.org and find out everyone else thinks they would actually be in a very normal romantic relationship
found this three year old draft buried in my files. is it funny? I don't remember
no no youâre on to something donât leave this in the notes! (tags from @misscrazyfangirl321)
terrible idea: a game that implements Trespasser's "look down at your breasts to see your health" mechanic, but your character is transfem and you increase your health bar by taking prog, increasing your breastsize and health at the same time
Trespasser was trying to not have a HUD, so the way you checked your health in-game was to look down at your character's breasts:
And the state of that tattoo on the left was your character's health.
Trespasser is a wild game.
It's a super-ambitious action-adventure with a physics & AI system years ahead of what was coming out at the time. It's super influential, sold about 5 copies, was completely impossible to play at launch, and it was created by the guy who designed the Xbox and the writer of Deus Ex & Dishonored. It's been cited as inspiration for Half Life 2, Halo, Far Cry, Doom 3, Octodad, and Surgeon Simulator. It was widely considered The Worst Game Of 1998 when it came out.
It's also a Jurassic Park tie-in that doesn't bother mentioning that in the name!
It's just one of those games that apparently every late-90s game developer either played or helped make! The impact of Trespasser is just massive, all for a game no one played and reportedly isn't that much fun anyway.
Laughing at this again today. My piece of shit wuppyog?!
