very very unique premise and probably for specific tastes (check the tags!). incredibly gripping prose. a great character study on shane hollander. makes me lightheaded every chapter. also makes me want to go run in the woods

shane goes to russia and interviews a bunch of people to figure out what ilya's life was like there. and then there's a dog... this is a very well constructed fic. the environments and characters feel lively and it's exciting to see shane learning more and more!! i love some magical realism

a different kind of plane crash fic, set in 2014 on a flight to sochi. very graphic. it's cool to see shane take a leadership position and figure stuff out, sweet seeing hollanov caring for each other and for everyone else, despite the grim setting. the original characters are great as well!

Shane leaves that Vegas penthouse suite feeling wretched, and like an idiot, and like he never wants to see Ilya Rozanov again.
Except, well. Then there are zombies.
i gravitate towards zombie aus because it's cool to see how the characters navigate an end of the world scenario, not just practically but also mentally (no hockey anymore?). i really liked that this spanned multiple years so you could see the survivors start to form communities and rebuild. setting it right after vegas adds great emotional tension to the story as well!

In which I put Hollanov into SituationsTM as if they were living in a procedural TV show land like Criminal Minds, The Rookie, Castle or Bones. Where, yes, hockey players attract a lot of trouble and then sort of end up solving crimes to save each other’s lives.
i like a tv procedural and a casefic and these are some thrilling rides! i like that they manage to be integrated into canon in that hollanov are very much still hockey players who just get roped into some shit.
