idk i make this post every few months worded differently but I'm just so so sick of the popular opinion seeming to be that a character i like experiencing trauma i relate to is taboo and gross and fetishising. idk maybe some people just want to tell a story about a thing that happens to people. a lot. im going to start whining that any character with a dead parent is romanticising grief and wank off material for grief fetishists

also interesting that male characters with sexual trauma are almost always lauded as Progressive examples of Good Writing but you can't even point out the obvious signs that a female character in the exact same media has gone through the same thing without people crawling over each other to explain to you that actually that's shallow shock value writing so we should ignore it. because obviously a woman's trauma is only there for men to jerk off to and men's trauma is Real and worth exploring

actually hammerhead flatworms are one of the most dangerous of invasive species because they breed like crazy can breed asexually and actively hunt good worms like earthworms and red worms while leaving little to nothing behind for the environment they invade and they are extremely hard to kill because they can regrow a whole body from just a segment

they literally have to be dipped into a strong ammonia mixture until they dissolve to kill them

They are invasive in America and Europe (and native to Southeast Asia, btw, but no one ever seems interested in talking about them as native species) but they are absolutely not one of the Most Dangerous nor are they even particularly all that destructive as far as invasive species go. They’ve been in the Americas and Europe for over a hundred years and are already pretty well established; there’s no point to killing them because they’re already around and they’re here to stay.

Those “good worms” you mentioned are also invasive in the Americas. Most earthworm species were accidentally introduced from Europe and Asia and have altered the American ecosystems to a far greater degree than the flatworms ever will, so I don’t see a problem with a few getting eaten by their natural predators.

hey, i know you've said previously that in order to write a Little character, you have to know the stereotypes of Little people. however, my internet delves have been so far fruitless. would you be able to tell me what some Little stereotypes are?

i ask because i'm writing a novel, and one of my main characters is a Little person with achondroplasia. I know the medical part of it just fine, but I am having less success for the other aspects.

His name's Mordechai Fernandez-Chavez, he plays soccer, is good at arguing, loves archaeology/anthropology, and he's learned to be loud and take up space because one thing I (think) I know is that Little people tend to be ignored (please tell me if that's wrong!), he's a Sephardi Orthodox Jew, he's Mexican-Argentinian-American, he collects rocks, and overall I've tried to put a lot of work into making him a person, not just a Little person. But I'm still afraid I haven't done enough.

Hello! Some common stereotypes for little people to avoid are;

that we're overly angry or grumpy - which accumulates in the real world by dismissing the emotions of real LP

LPs are often used for physical comedy, particualrly in scenarios where our short stature is seen as cute or the butt of the joke

hypersexualization is a big one, that we're inherently promiscuous or kinky. On the other end of the coin, sex with little people is often seen as taboo.

that we're all miners, black smiths, etc. as seen in fantasy

that we have good luck or are somehow lucky - this one is less common, but some cultures still believe that touching little people will bring you good luck, which is something I've encountered
