Bluesky feels less like a welcoming space, no matter how nice lots of people are, and more like "I know this cardboard box isn't the best, but it's better than that ACTUAL GARBAGE DUMP that I lived in." I don't think going to a place that you claim space in should fill you with dread. I don't like what big corpo did to Tumblr, but I can still come back here and not feel unease.
People die on the job every summer. Remember that water and shade breaks are crucial when working in the heat, and calling emergency services for signs of serious heat illness (fatigue, nausea/vomiting, headaches, dizziness, clammy skin, confusion, agitation, slurred speech, high body temperature, rapid heart rate, etc.) is entirely appropriate. If you’re afraid to call 911 for reasons such as being undocumented, you’ll need to get very familiar with how to prevent, recognize, and treat heat illness. If you are symptomatic and not allowed a break, water, or medical treatment, walk out. No matter how broke you are, your job is not worth your life.
Important distinction to be made between heat exhaustion and heat stroke!
Ways to quickly cool someone down if you are unable to get to a cool shower or bath (as per my CPR/first aid certification course taken a couple years ago. Always stay updated on current guidelines):
Get inside with A/C or, at minimum, somewhere well shaded
Remove any unnecessary clothing and/or outer layers (socks, jackets, shoes, belts, sweat bands, hats, etc)
Wet their remaining clothing or use a cool compress. Make sure the compress stays cool by rewetting it every few minutes
Have them drink cool water and an electrolyte drink if available (focus on the water, the electrolytes are helpful to replace salt, but water should be the priority)
If you have ice packs or anything frozen, wrap them in a cloth barrier and place them against the neck, armpits, or groin area (pulse points). Do not put an ice pack directly onto skin.
Keep them seated or laying down with legs slightly elevated
If they cannot drink water or keep it down or they are unconscious, get emergency help immediately
Keep in mind that changes in skin color may be more difficult to spot on dark skin
If anyone knows of anything else, please add it!
To echo the above: no job is worth your life. No job is worth your coworker's life. If these are not things your employer will allow you to pause work for, get yourself and/or your coworker out of there immediately and provide necessary treatment/get to an urgent care. Solidarity is important, especially in unsafe and hazardous conditions.

I have not seen any evidence tonsugges they are harmed or die in the process of production. They do regurgitate the nectar as part of the process to concentrate it into honey (an interesting process) but they do not suffer any injury during this process. If they did, the cost to produce honey, which is done naturally as a measure to survive over winter and through times of lower availability, would outweigh the benefits. If you kill several bees to produce enough honey to make one more bee, It makes no sense. Any animal that did that would die, even with human intervention.
Do you have any sources which suggest otherwise? I’d be interested to hear of this (relatively publicly available) information was false or misunderstood.
Bee farmers use whats called a honey maker. It’s a crude devices. It similar to a meat grinder. They force the bees in and grind them up. What comes out is a paste. That paste is later filtered into what we know as honey

they might be falsely thinking about a honey extractor machine. but all these do is you place the beehive frames inside and a motor rotates it at a speed that removes the honey, which is then tapped through a tap at the bottom.

Vegans coming after beekeepers is one of my major teeth grinding annoyances. For many reasons, because there’s so many lies. And to go one step further because it’s such a waste. You see, the strongest vegan argument is that they don’t want to exploit animals or take from them without their consent.
… but… Bees consent. NO. I’M NOT KIDDING.
How? Bee hives aren’t kept on leashes. They’re outside, the bees can travel miles every day. They follow their queen. Who is also outside, not on a leash, and can travel miles every day. If she doesn’t like the hive for any reason - for example: it got too hot, too cold, too messy, too filled with sugary stuff and they need more space… then the queen leaves. And with her the hive.
The queen stays in the hive because the hive is the best place to live. Period. Done. End of. If the hive is staying with the beekeeper it’s because the keeper is doing their job correctly and keeping them happy because the bees can, and do, leave bad beekeepers.
Of all the animals we have domesticated as livestock, bees are the ones you can most easily argue are consenting participants in their keeping.

I feel compelled to explain the misconception part for anyone who doesn’t know anything about beekeeping and finds any of this confusing. This might be a little redundant, but I’m scratching an itch.
Harvesting honey does not murder bees.
The device pictured above does not mash up bees or their hives.
There’s no ethical concern when it comes to eating honey, it’s totally ethical as food is concerned.
Bees manufacture honey using pollen. They store it in the cells of their hive, where it’s used as food for the colony, particularly the larvae growing into the next generation of bees.
When you harvest honey, you remove parts of the hive that are being used to store the honey, without taking any bees along for the ride. Those parts of the hive are then put into a device, like the centrifugal extractor shown above by gemstone-gynoid, where the parts are spun really fast to pull extract the honey. The honey gets collected on the walls of the extractor, drips down, and can then be filtered and bottled for human use.
So.
It turns out that bees love making honey and can make more of it than they’d ever need. It also turns out that beekeepers taking care of hives and harvesting their honey keeps bees healthy and thriving, more so than they’d normally accomplish on their own. And we really need bees healthy and thriving because they help us grow an astonishing amount of food by pollinating plants.
Like, there’s no need to have a conversation about this, anyone who claims that harvesting honey requires that you kill bees is lying. Either they don’t know anything about beekeeping and are just repeating a lie someone else told them, or they know that they’re lying and they’re just straight up trying to deceive people. Neither is a good look.

american attitudes about nudity are fucking wild, and the worst part is that because they're american, they just assume that everyone everywhere thinks the same. i will never forget seeing people on a left-leaning, progressive site saying that families bathing together is creepy and gross and clearly a sign that something is wrong with the family, that they'd never seen their siblings or parents naked and would in fact rather die. meanwhile to this day i bathe and go to the sauna with my sister and mother and have been bathing and sauna'ing with various family members - and even strangers! - my whole life. but yes, can confirm, seeing your grandma's tits as a child does you good, and not just because it teaches you that "beauty is fake and temporary", but because it broadens your ideas about what beauty even is in the first place. my sister and i used to spend our summers at our grandma's house by the countryside and frequently bathed and went to sauna with her. we saw not just her breasts but also her flabby skin, her moles and liver spots, her body hair and varicose veins, and we didn't see any of that as weird or ugly because they were a part of our grandma who we loved very much. and when we see those things in other people - ourselves included! - we think "well it wasn't ugly on my grandma's body, so why would it be ugly on anyone else's body?". it makes you much more understanding and "forgiving", if you will, towards the completely normal bodies of strangers as well as your own body.
As someone with a history in customer service, I want you to know things like "You're absolutely right!" and "Great question!" are things we're taught to say because if pacifies the customer, makes them feel special, and lets us take control of the conversation again. It's maybe not a good thing that those have become hallmark staples of chatbots.
In support, they're helpful tools to realign with customers and get their problem solved, but for a general conversation? It's undue flattery that will make one feel overly important. "The customer's always right" is bogus, and we speak to customers that way so they'll feel superior, intelligent, and continue giving us money.
Your chatbot talks to you like that so you'll keep coming back. But you don't have a problem. You don't need its help. You are being conned.
