Fanfiction is supposed to be cringy. You're allowed to write bad. You're allowed to be cringe. Fanfiction is supposed to be self indulgent. You're allowed to be cringe. Let yourself be cringe. Fanfiction is supposed to be fun. Stop putting arbitrary rules on yourself and be free.
Character duo where one *remembers I donāt like fitting characters into trope boxes* is a completely fleshed out and realised person *remembers treating characters as real people and not story devices written with intent is bad* who is written by the author and *remembers death of the author* uh. And *fumbles and drops my pile of queue cards* ah fuck wait no *the menacing horse* what was that.
This is actually very normal human behavior. It's just that most people (in the USA) think "Jesus strengthens me" instead of "I am a pikmin, dandori time"
This is literally why stories and fantasy are so useful to humans. We cannot tackle every mundane challenge with enthusiasm, and facing against profoundly daunting tasks can be deeply demoralizing, and you donāt get to feel cool or heroic for filing 400 pieces of paperwork.
We arm ourselves with stories and fantasy, so that the laundry can become a charming hurdle to overcome, and the daunting stack of bills is the leviathan we the brave knights must slay.
Humans have always been like this. So many cultures have stories or mythology or even rituals about literally embodying another being better suited to the challenge one currently faces.

You will always fall in love, and it will always be like having your throat cut, just that fast. You will always run away with her. You will always lose her. You will always be a fool. I should write a story with wacky factions that have names that are, to a modern audience, wildly misleading. The Conventionists are radicals who have wildly off-base views, part of a cult called The Convent. The Libertarians are the strict followers of far-future ultra-fascist Roger Libert. The Convicts call themselves that because they value their sense of moral conviction above all else and strictly abide by a legal code that follows said morals; if you commit a crime you're exiled. The Idiots obey their central Idiom: knowledge and education above all else.

WHAT IS NAPOWRIMO?
national poetry writing month is in april! it's the poetry equivalent to national novel writing month (nanowrimo) in november. instead of a word count, the nanowrimo challenge is to write a poem for every day!
you might also have heard it called escapril, which is the name of a challenge that used to pose napowrimo prompts every year. they stopped a couple years back, which inspired others to post prompts :)
DO I HAVE TO WRITE A POEM EVERY SINGLE DAY?
not at all! napowrimo is meant to be an inspiration, not an obligation. write as many poems as you'd like, whether that's multiple per day, or none. your goal is to get some words down. any poem that you finish the month with is a success worthy of celebrating. i probably won't post a poem every day! do what you can, and that's enough.
DO I HAVE TO BE A POET TO PARTICIPATE?
i'm the annoying kind of person who will tell you that you already are a poet if you write a poem; the conventional answer, though, is no! again, napowrimo is here to be an inspiration. if you've never written a poem before, i'd be more than delighted if you gave this a try. if you're not a poet yet, this is the april to change that :)

not at all. i would personally be delighted to see anything you guys write, but if you'd like to keep it to yourself, that's totally fine. do what you're comfortable with (or push the boundaries a little. it's good practice to be brave <3)

Only for her to walk in two seconds later and say, āThis drink is disgusting, you have to try it,ā and, instead of offering me a sip, take a huge swig and spit it directly into my mouth from like three feet away.
Thereās just so much going on here but I want to focus on the fact that this apparently happens so often that you saw her take a swig and instinctively opened your mouth for her to spit in it.
