It’s been YEARS since I made my last movie review. I started to take a break when I was pregnant and my baby is now a sassy almost six year old. One of my new favorite thriller film inspired me to write a review.
'The Night House’
A recent widower Beth (Rebecca Hall) spends the first night alone in her house on the lake that her late husband had built for them.
Unexplained things happen in the house to lead her to believe her husband is still with her. Following breadcrumbs he had left for her she discovers something more sinister.

What I struggled with on this film.
First off, after the second frightening thing that had happened in the house I would have already been gone.
Unless she was going for a certain vibe with this hardcore paperweight. The statue would have never been brought into the house, cannot imagine she thought that was a smart idea. Take a picture, research later.
What I LOVED…
There was a couple of scenes where the song “The Calvary Cross” by Richard and Linda Thompson would randomly blast from the stereo in the middle of the night. Its actually a great song!
When it comes to movies, I can usually figure out is going to happen since majority of movies are so predictable, this movie had me guessing!
The message in his final letter always gives me the creeps, because it sounds so random but it all makes sense.
“You were right, there is nothing. Nothing is after you. You’re safe now.”
I also enjoyed trying to spot the silhouette of a man in the house.
Overall Thoughts
After watching this film, it made me think of all of the different possibilities of it being a mental illness or if it was really paranormal of what she was experiencing. Either way, I really enjoyed this movie, so much so it inspired me to write a review!
I think if you’re in the mood for a scary/thriller this is the film for you! Its currently streaming on HBO Max.

Mission: Impossible - Fallout
Hey Everyone!
This is my first review since Atomic Blonde!! FYI: That movie was released in August, 2017.
It’s been a hot minute since I have had the time to watch a film AND write a review. Life has been extremely busy with a Toddler running the household.
However, the planets must have been aligned because I received two early access invites to check out M:I-Fallout and Nana was able to watch bitty during the workweek!
Let’s get into this review :)
‘Mission: Impossible - Fallout’
Currently on Flixster/Rotten Tomatoes it is rated 98% Fresh (Critics).
Ethan Hunt (Tom Cruise) is back at it again with his whole team in tow to fix an oopsy daisy of a mistake of practically giving plutonian to the bad guys The Apostles. With two nuclear bombs that are available in the hands of psychos, Ethan and squad are working to stop the Fallout at all costs!

What I struggled with on this film
I’m not sure why, I’m not the biggest fan of Rebecca Ferguson in the M:I Films. Like I obviously do not want her character to die, but I really don’t want her in the story either.
She’s always in Ethan’s business; She’s like those people who write this open-ended Facebook’s post to get everyones attention then refuse to say anything at all regarding the topic.
What I LOVED…
This film had fantastic motorcycle, car, plane, and foot chase scene. Seriously!
I’m 97% sure that is section specifically stating in Cruises contracts that he has to be given a running scene to show off he insane ability to run like a sombitch.
There is this one scene where he is running so insanely fast, its like watching a hummingbird.
HENRY CAVILL!!!!
I was digging his facial hair and the bathroom fight scene.
Overall Thoughts
Besides the my obvious excitement from the action in this film.
I thought the storyline was great, it kept me engaged and I wish that there was more of the White Widow in the film than Ilsa. The visuals to this film was FANTASTIC, and the score was great.
The only downfall is that Fallout has quite a few predictable scenes in the film.
However, my favorite M:I film prior to this, was the Ghost Protocol and I would say they are closely rated the same.
Tom Cruise is PHENOMENAL in this film, he’s getting up there in his age (56 to be exact), but he still does all his stunts. I’m almost half his age and I was getting white knuckles just watching him.

Atomic Blonde
Hey Everyone!
Finally had the time to catch a new movie during opening weekend, and to write a review!
‘Atomic Blonde’
Currently on Flixster/Rotten Tomatoes it is rated fresh at 75% (Critics) and fresh 68% (Users).
In Berlin, Germany in 1989; a MI6 agent James Gasciogne (Sam Hargrave), is murdered by a KGB agent over a recently obtained a wristwatch that has a detail list of agents, including information regarding a double agent by the code name “Satchel”.
10 days later, a heavily bruised MI6 agent, Lorraine Broughton (Charlize Theron) is brought into the SIS building for an interrogation from her Superior and a American CIA agent (John Goodman) as to what had happened in Berlin within the last 10 days while she was on assignment to work with the local agent David Percival (James McAvoy), to collect Agent Gasciogne body and to locate and retrieve the list and return the information to the British Intelligence.

What I struggled with on this film.
Don’t get me wrong, I seriously enjoyed this film. HOWEVER, I feel that the plot and storyline is something that has been done multiple times, and it just gives me a a major case of Déjà vu.
This film is a mixture of:
John Wick,
Wanted,
Salt,
Mission Impossible: Rogue Nation.
What I LOVED…
Lorraine’s fashion was perfect for a 80′s spy! All her outfits were making me rage with jealously. The oversize sunglasses, the trench coat with the IDGAF attitude was perfection!
The soundtrack to this film is fantastic; I also loved the monochromatic look with a hint of 80′s neon lights. It really set the look and feel of the 80′s.
Okay, lets get into the action scenes!
Of course the majority of the fight scenes was almost always in heels.. I’m impressed when actresses/stunt doubles are able to do the scenes in heels, when I can barely run in a pair.
Overall Thoughts
As mentioned earlier (unless you skipped it) there is a lot of similarities between this film and other spy films. In my opinion what sets this film apart from the others is the monochromatic look, and the setting in the 80′s era.
I feel that casting did a fantastic job landing Charlize Theron! With Mad Max, and now Atomic Blonde under her belt; I’m ready for many more actions films with her taking the lead.

Upcoming Movie Review!
Alien: Covenant
Hey Everyone!
It has been a hot minute since I’ve had time to sit down and write a review.
It feels great to share the review of the Ridley Scott’s recent film; the sequel to Prometheus, and prequel to Alien.
‘Alien: Covenant’
Currently on Flixster/Rotten Tomatoes it is rated fresh at 71% (Critics) and fresh 61% (Users)
The Covenant ship was en route to colonize a planet; during deep space travel the ship is damaged and requires the crew to awake from hypersleep to fix the ship. (Isn’t this practically the plot to Passengers?).
While fixing the Solar sails; Tennessee (Danny McBride) receives feedback within his helmet that appears to be a message that has been floating in space from a neighboring planet.
Of course they go to check it out the random message on a local unknown planet instead of heading to their destination.

What I struggled with on this film.
This film is 85% storyline (similar to Prometheus); with minimal character development.
When a couple of character met their demise; I felt hardly concerned.
Freakin’ David still loved touching and kissing everything...
What I LOVED…
The visuals in this film were fantastic.
I also enjoyed seeing the new breeds of Xenomorphs.
Nightmares were made of this…
David pulling the Single White feMale on poor Walter.
Overall Thoughts
We found out what happened with Dr Shaw, David and the Engineers from Prometheus.
I did love that Danny McBride and James Franco were in this film; It made me wonder if Seth Rogan was in the Alien Costumes or Jonah Hill was one of the crew that didn’t last long using his fake gun prop from ‘This is the End’. LOL.
The only time in this movie where I received that exciting “THIS IS IT” feeling was when Daniels was running full speed down the hallways to fight the Alien.
To me it felt like a nod to the original Alien series where they were fighting the Aliens on the space ship; TBH, It felt like I have been waiting FOREVER for this scene to arrive.

Don’t Breathe
Hey Everyone!
Chris and I went out on a quick movie date when we were able to have a family member to watch Aubree; and we were able to finally watch a film I swore to myself I would wait until its available on Blu-ray because I thought I was too chicken to watch it in theaters.
‘Don’t Breathe’
Currently on Flixster/Rotten Tomatoes it is rated fresh at 86% (Critics) and 83% (Users).
Located within Detroit, Rocky (Jane Levy), Alex (Dylan Minnette) and Money (Daniel Zovatto) rob homes that are secured by Alex’s fathers security company.
Rocky comes from an abusive household where she has the motivation to leave Detroit with her little sister Diddy (Emma Bercovici).
Money comes forward with an idea of huge heist that involves robbing a man that received a 300k settlement from an accidental death of his daughter.
After completing a stakeout, they discover that the man is blind and lives in a abandon section within the city. They determine it should be a easy hit due to his condition but once they are inside they realized they made a huge mistake.

What I struggled with on this film...
For me, I would have never believed that there was 300k in the house, why wouldn’t he keep that kind of funds in a savings account and allow it to collect interest. The money would be rollin’ in.
Another thing I wondering is why didn’t they move stuff around. With him being blind he probably has an excellent memory on where he left items that could be potential weapons, or tools.
What I LOVED…
This film did have a bunch of scenes that kept us on the edge of our seats.
I loved Jane Levy in this film, I think she did an excellent job!
There was also this one scene where the blind man finds their shoes.. someone in the group had some smelly feet!
Nightmares were made of this…
It was the most intense game of hide and go seek, Marco Polo style.
Overall Thoughts
The director of this film, Fede Alvarez directed the reboot of the Evil Dead which also stared Jane Levy. Which I noticed that there was some familiar scenes between the Evil Dead and Don’t Breathe films. One that I can share that wont give anyway the twist in the film would be that she always seems to end up being locked in the basement.

Changes to Manley Movie Review...
With motherhood now added to my list of responsibilities; there has been a lot of changes within the Manley household.
It’s been really REALLY hard to sit and watch a movie when you have an adorable Mini Manley staring at you and needing your undivided attention.
Honestly, how can you say no to this face?!
Anyways, Chris and I have talked about making changes in our schedules because I have really really REALLY missed writing content for my blog!
Chris has agreed to watch Aubree so I catch an early matinee on Saturday. This will allow me to review some new releases! :)
For now on the majority of the film reviews will be completed by me, but when there is date night then i’ll include Chris’s score and his take of the film.
We will have some time to catch a movie this weekend and we both really want to see ‘Don’t Breathe’; so stay tune for the next movie review.

Hilarious moment in the Theater
While Chris and I were at the AMC to watch “The Gift” this morning..
There was a man sitting directly in front of me…. I’m assuming has never seen the Sinister 2 trailer; because at this scene….
He literally did this…
Never in my life, have I witness someone doing that. He seriously lost about half of popcorn from that scene. LMAO!
I was still quietly laughing at him almost through the entire next trailer; I almost passed out!
Can't believe it has been a year! This still makes me giggle! 😂😂😂
13 Hours: The Secret Soldiers of Benghazi
Hey Everyone!
With all the new stuff that has happened to us within the last few months we were finally able to watch the a movie in our media room in the new house.
We literally closed on the house five days before I was induced.
We knew the first movie played in the media room had to be high action and something we haven’t seen yet; and this movie seemed like a great pick.
‘13 Hours: The Secret Soldiers of Benghazi'
Currently on Flixster/Rotten Tomatoes it is rated rotten at 50% (Critics) and fresh 84% (Users)
Arriving into Benghazi, Libya; Jack Silva (John Krasinski) joins the secret GRS (Global Response Staff) team that consist of Tyrone ‘Rone’ Woods (James Badge Dale), Kris ‘Tanto’ Paronto (Pablo Schreiber), Dave ‘Boon’ Benton (David Denman), John ‘Tig’Tiegen (Dominic Fumusa), and Mark ‘Oz’ Giest (Max Martini). that are currently serving at the secret CIA outpost called The Annex.
On September 11, 2012 - an attack was made to the U.S. Consulate that resulted in the death of U.S. Ambassador J. Christopher Stevens and Sean Smith.
Requested in assistances for protection against the militants - The GRS team goes against the order to rescue those at the Consulate, and the fight continues back at The Annex.
Sending multiple request to other US branches for assistances, but had fell on deaf ears.

What I struggled with on this film:
This is a Michael Bay film and I swear in every film he always films children running in slow-mo.. Its like his trademark.
Also in the video within the “What I Loved” section there is a scene where the soldiers gave the directive to go “Left” when leaving the compound.. Yet.. they turn Right.
What I LOVED…
How ripped John Krasinski was for this film.
My reaction:
The battle scenes were pretty intense; I was able to locate the first battle on youtube..Check it out!
My favorite character was Tanto played by Pablo Schreiber. He wore shorts throughout the fight scene and he was super sarcastic.
Action Scenes FTW!
Overall Thoughts
Sadly this film was based on the true events that took place on September 11, 2012. Which makes me feel mixed emotions about loving this film so much.
From a movie perspective; It’s a high action war movie with intense scenes that have you on the edge of seat.
However, knowing that those soldiers were literally on their own to fight off what felt like a small army and what they had gone through physically and emotionally, there really are no words.

Central Intelligence

Last Saturday, Chris and I were able to go on our first date night out as parents... Of course we spent a good portion of dinner staring at pictures of our little girl because we missed her so much. However, the flight of Margarita’s were absolutely appreciated.
‘Central Intelligence’
Currently on Flixster/Rotten Tomatoes it is rated fresh 67% (Critics) and 69% (Users)
Calvin Joyner (Kevin Hart) who was the most beloved senior from the class of ‘96; had such a heart of gold that when the class nerd Robbie Wheirdicht (Dwayne Johnson) was humiliated at the last senior prep rally. Without hesitation; Calvin did what he could to help Robbie from further public humiliation. With the twenty year class reunion right around the corner; Calvin is displeased with where his life is at as an Accountant. He reconnects with Bob Stone on Facebook and when he meets up with him at a local bar he finds out that Robbie is now Bob Stone and he has lost a lot of weight and he also works for the CIA and is in need of Calvin assistances.

What I struggled with on this film...
The only thing I really struggled with in this film was the maroon pleather jacket that Aaron Paul’s character wore. It appeared to be too large for him; and did not seem like a correct costume fit for him.
What I LOVED…
Both Kevin Hart and Dwayne Johnson were HILARIOUS in this film!
This movie had an excellent mixture of action and comedy.
Overall Thoughts
When this movie finished; there was multiple people applauding this film... Now I wouldn’t give it a standing ovation but overall it was a hilarious comedic film that was entertaining from start to finish. I'm really happy that Chris convinced me to stay out late to watch it. #momlife

The Great Gatsby

Today, I was enjoying my maternity leave to bond with my baby girl and was scanning through my movie list and haven’t watched this movie in quite some time; I thought this would be a great time to write a review!
‘The Great Gatsby'
Currently on Flixster/Rotten Tomatoes it is rated rotten at 48% (Critics) and 67% fresh for (Users)
Story comes from the perspective of Nick Carraway (Tobey Maguire) who recounts his experiences of when he uprooted from the Midwest to New York City. His cousin Daisy Buchanan (Carey Mulligan) is married to Tom (Joel Edgerton) who was once Nick’s college pal. Nick was invited to a party that was being thrown by J. Gatsby; a millionaire that had quite a unique life, and has a request that involves his married cousin Daisy.

What I struggled with on this film...
How Carraway was not at all bothered that Tom was cheating on his cousin with Myrtle.
Nick should have stayed true to his cousin and show Myrtle where to go...
Tom was such an unpleasant character that It made me dislike Daisy for being stupid enough to stay with him.
What I LOVED…
All the feelings that you get from witnessing all the love that Gatsby had for Daisy and how far he would go to rekindle that romance.
From throwing lavish party all the time where all of New York would be in attendance in hopes of the slightest chance that Daisy would attend.
How he would just look at her... SIGH
Overall Thoughts
This is a classic love story that was written by F. Scott Fitzgerald, and I would have to say that this is one of my favorite stories and was glad that a remake was done to this film. I have to say I absolutely love the visual effects that is a standard by director Baz Luhrmann (Romeo + Juliet, Moulin Rouge). It provided a dreamy, soft glow, retro throwback to the roaring twenties.
Also this film has a really great soundtrack! Lana Del Rey FTW!

The Revenant
Hey Everyone!
It's been a hot minute since I have time to watch a movie (without falling asleep) and let alone write about what I thought about it.
If you haven’t heard yet... we are expecting a baby!
So in a nutshell this is me almost all the time...
We recently found out the gender too!
I'm almost halfway through my pregnancy and so I figured now is the time to get some of my reviews out of the way because Baby Aubree will keep me busy for quite some time.
Anyways.. lets get to into this review.
‘The Revenant’
Currently on Flixster/Rotten Tomatoes it is rated fresh 83% (Critics) and 86% (Users)
Based on a semi true story of Hugh Glass (Leonardo DiCaprio); During the 1800’s fur trading in the Unites States. Nearby the Arikara Native Americans started to attacking Trappers that Hugh was associated with. The Chief of the Arikara was looking for his missing daughter and was his understanding that she was taken by someone within the group. After escaping a intense ambush; Hugh suggest to leave the boat and return to their Fort on foot to throw off the Arikara from finding them.
Within the group, Hot headed Fitzgerald (Tom Hardy) is not impressed with Hugh and his son Hawk (Forrest Goodluck); After a gruesome Grizzly bear attack; Hugh is left with mortal wounds; The group's Captain Andrew Henry (Domhnall Gleeson); does the gentlemen’s offer of paying two men to stay behind with Hugh until he passes and to give him a Christian burial.
Of course Fitzgerald offers up to be one of the men to stay behind and he is the last person you want to take care of you.

What I struggled with on this film
Okay so this is coming from the perspective from a pregnant woman; but I felt that the film was just too long.. Half way thru the movie; I was dying to go to restroom; but I didn’t want to miss anything because when there’s a good scenes.. THEY ARE REALLY GOOD!
Also, I would like to take this time to complain to Ryuichi Sakamoto (I’m sorry if he’s not to blame for this, but his name is listed the most as the Artist for the Soundtrack)
What would possess you to make one of the film’s score to sound like running water at towards the end of the film (they were not near water at the time either). You should expect that people have been needing to use the restroom because this movie is 2 1/2 hours long.. and again with me being pregnant I was already struggling; then that score came on.
It was like Russian Roulette with my bladder...
What I LOVED…
The visuals of this film were beautiful, and one of my friends researched where this film location was.. I guess “Canada”, but I was proved wrong!
It was actually filmed in Southern Argentina!
Absolutely Beautiful!
Also let's take a moment to appreciate this view.
Rugged Tom Hardy.. but let's keep that little headband on.. :)
After the film, I had some chuckles from some of the scenes that Tom Hardy had… Like the scene where he’s telling Leo that he will provide him a mercy kill and all he has to do to agree is to “blink” and Leo doing his best to not blink..

That Grizzly Bear scene... URGH!
Overall Thoughts
I thought it was visually beautiful and an intense story of survival and revenge.
Who doesn't love a good revenge film.
I only thought was the film was extremely long and I felt that there were many scenes that could have been left out.. but the Director Alejandro González Iñárritu does have three Oscars so who am I say what's right or wrong for his films. =)
I’m pulling for you Leo! I hope you finally win that OSCAR!
