1918 friends episode

I'VE BEEN PAINTING AND IT TURNED OUT SO BEAUTIFUL

i read the phrase āheist movie set in the first century CEā on twitter and, like, please:
theyāre plotting to steal a million sesterces from the imperial treasury. Vespasian is emperor. thereās at least one wrist sundial. anachronistic and silly gadgets abound. everyone goes by Marcus. thereās a high-speed chariot chase scene.
this is going around again so people are tagging it with references to various AstĆ©rix-related media & i realize thatās my fault for not saying exactly how i want it to be shot. I want it to be shot exactly like a modern heist movie - quick cuts, lens flares, the edges of things weirdly sharply defined, etc. thereās a scene where everyone gets fancy new clothes and obviously itās expensive togas, which donāt look that different to modern eyes, but the movie treats it exactly like you would the scene where people get sharp new suits. none of the incongruities are ever addressed.
Jay DeFeoĀ is best known for this monumental painting, entitledĀ The Rose, which she started in 1958 and completed over the course of eight years. The piece consists of white and gray paints layered so thickly onto the canvas that, in some ares, the paints are almost eight inches thick. She used so much oil paint that she called it āa marriage between painting and sculpture.ā
The RoseĀ measures 7.5 x 11 feet and weighs 2,300 pounds,
i keep thinking all the mars rovers are the size of a medium dog but i am wrong every single time
I read that capsaicin makes your mouth feel like it's burning because it increases your nerve sensitivity to heat, and menthol works by doing the same thing to cold
So if I eat a habanero pepper and then chew a bunch of breath mints they'll each other out and I'll be fine
Hey guess what hellfire tastes like
Fun fact! The nerve endings for "ouch too hot" and "ouch too cold" are different! Which means that they can both be activated at once, without cancelling out. Rip OP.
Didn't know I needed to hear this version until now.
calcifer: sophie form an extremely suspicious contract with me
sophie: uh idk man. youāre a demon?
calcifer: but iām being exploited :c
sophie, her instinct as a low/no-wage worker instantly overriding all sensibilities as a self-aware fantasy character: i guess we have no choice but to unionize
I was reading up on Ceasarās last words (as one does) and I came upon this one that has the Biggest Miette Energy
#you STAB ceasar???#you STAB him like the SALAD???#oh jail for the conspirators! jail for a thousand years!!!#Julius Caesar#tragediesĀ -Ā @ardenrosegarden
Usually photographs are not allowed on-site, but nobody has ever stopped me from sketching, so hereās the refined result of a series of pen sketches I took of a preserved 737 skull. Please forgive any inaccuracies, I am not the greatest aerobiologist.
I got a good view of the enormous radar melons (those big concavities in the nose). Like an electric eel the plane can generate a large voltage, but it does so across modified nerves that act as wires, focusing the resulting EM waves using bones shaped like a parabolic dish. This is partly used for signaling but supposedly they can detect bad weather with it.
Those little holes on either side are the angle of attack sensors, basically just whiskers that detect local airflow.
All that bone looks really heavy, but itās mostly hollow, really weird for a mammal! I put the grey around it to show where the outllne of the plane is with all its skin and blubber.
Someday Iād love to sketch an Airbus skull, but theyāre more common in Europe and Iām in the states. Maybe someday Iāll get a chance.
Oh hey, I just sketched out this a380 airbus last week, when they were taking it apart after it had been decommissioned (by natural cause).
Convergent evolution is amazing.
magnificent.
same with sista, brotha, motha, etc etc

Hey students, hereās a pro tip: do not write an email to your prof while youāre seriously sick.
Signed, a person who somehow came up withĀ ādear hello, I am sick and not sure if Iāll be alive to come tomorrow and Iām sorry, best slutantions, [name]ā.
I mean, if someone wrote that to me, Iād probably believe they were sick.
āSlutantionsā has me crying laughing
i once emailed my professor with a migraine. a mistake.
āI amsick will not to choir because i have a heache. i Hope its very and i am so sorry
love,
blueā
the subject line was āOWā
THE SUBJECT LINE IS THE BEST PART JSJFJSJDJS JUST IMAGINE GETTING AN EMAIL WITH NO CONTEXT OTHER THAN āOWā
As someone who has taught college, please send those emails because 1) We WILL believe that; no one would write that on purpose and 2) we need a laugh sometimes.
On the other side of this, once after getting taken to the ER by ambulance, I got an email from the professor whose class Iād passed out in, and the message had no text, just the subject line āyou good?ā
Reblogging for the last addition
Forever obsessed with the fact that even the in-universe annotation in the appendices talking about how Legolas brought Gimli along to Valinor with him is like āWe donāt actually know how they managed this. By all accounts, it doesnāt make any senseā
Gimli: So you know Iām on board with this, obviously, but like. If the world is flat for you, and itās NOT flat for me, and the boat is only supposed to be able to get there the flat wayā¦
Legolas: ?
Gimli: What happens if weāre both on the boat?
Legolas: I donāt know, but weāre gonna find out
