as glad as i am to see that the roleplay ecosystem on tumblr has kicked up in recent years, i've also realized that it's been a while since i've considered the nuances of rp interactions. it used to be much simpler a good few years ago, but with tumblr removing post-trimming functionality, a lot of newer residents have just been enduring threads that span several tens of posts.
ATTENTION ALL RP HEADS! THERE IS A BETTER WAY! (on mobile, at least)
PLEASE direct your attention to XKit!! (i have it on firefox, and installed it from here, but it probably works on other browsers as well). you're probably familiar with it, but if you're not, it's been the extension that's made so many of tumblr's more annoying changes tolerable by reverting/fixing them. and it's been a boon for the rpc for a while now.
included in its great list of quality-of-life features is something that looks like this:

when you turn this dial here, you'll find a new icon that shows up at the bottom of all of your posts and drafts. i'll use a screenshot of my own blog for convenience:
clicking on that pair of scissors will take you to a screen that looks like this:
there's only two posts in this thread- mine and gio's (everyone say hi gio)- and of course, i can't trim my own response to the post, or there would be nothing left. so there's only one thing to trim, here. depending on the size of the thread you have, though, there could be a lot more. regardless, if i were to trim the post, it would end up looking like this:
i saved it as a draft bc i don't actually want to post it, but you get the picture. my roleplay partner would still receive a notification that i reblogged the post, and the notes counter remains the same, even though the trimmed replies aren't visible in the latest reblog.
it's exceptionally convenient!!! if it's at all in your power to use it, i would highly recommend it! especially for our friends who may be mobile only (since currently i don't believe there's a solution to thread trimming on mobile, unfortunately)
