I know this is a reach but

I think it would be really cute if this conversation was Ford trying to work out with himself how he should treat Arthur. Arthur is trying to drag him back to the Earth, and Ford asks Elvis, “Is it true you were abducted by aliens?” because a part of him really wants to keep Arthur in space and wants to know what it would be like for Arthur if he did that. Elvis replies that he went of his own accord and Ford realizes he really shouldn’t be making Arthur’s decisions for him.

Ford brings this up with Arthur to communicate his process subtly and work through his thoughts on his own, and Arthur says “I’m still not sure who we’re talking about,” because Ford isn’t talking about Elvis, he’s talking about Arthur.

Oh I love that. Plot twist: this time it isn’t Arthur being autistic and getting caught up on the small details, it’s an actual moment. With meaning. Yes. I love that. I love Arthur being autistic, too, but this is much better.

Maybe this was Ford’s attempt at an apology? He kind of did kidnap Arthur in a sense after all. It was to save his life, but still, Arthur was abducted by an alien. Maybe Ford had been trying to persuade himself that he did the right thing, and the King he saw as proof that you can be abducted by aliens and go on to have a great time.

But the more time passes and Arthur still clings onto the memory of earth, the more Ford starts to doubt his own logic. That could be why Ford always keeps tabs on Arthur even after they’ve gone their separate ways, maybe hoping some space might improve things.

Then when they run into the King, the illusion completely shatters for Ford. Because the King has a good life after leaving of his own accord. He wasn’t abducted. Kind of heartbroken, he pays to hear Love Me Tender and goes back to Arthur at the bar and wonders what he could have done differently.

He tries to bring it up on the spaceship but Arthur doesn’t catch on and Ford drops it, thinking maybe this damage is simply irreparable…

I would have liked to have seen more interactions between Fenchurch and Ford. I think they’re both way cooler than Arthur and they operate on a similar level of eccentricity and whimsy. This is my current Fenchurch design btw. I’m giving her crazy hair because I think she has to look a little bit like a hedgehog.
