Goncharov Lore Thus Far, based on the top tumblr post results

Main cast are Goncharov himself, his wife Katya (née Michailov), and Andrey 

One side character is named Mario Ambrosini. He is described as a “sad boi” and is involved in gambling. 

Set in Naples and involving a drug ring/mafia. The plot seems to involve Russian organized crime attempting to get a foothold in Italy. 

There is a Boat Scene. Katya survives via resourcefulness. 

Andrey and Goncharov have a substantial amount of homoeroticism. Andrey also has an internet in Katya. This forms a true love triangle. 

At some point, Katya threatens to shoot Goncharov. This is framed as a Girlboss Moment. 

There is also a Beer Bottle Scene. 

Katya fakes her death.

heavy clock symbolism. A pivotal scene occurs at a clock tower, there is a grandfather clock in the background of some sets, etc 

A supporting female character named Sofia makes an appearance, wearing a cocktail dress. Katya protects her at some point. They’re both in the Boat Scene. At one point they buy fruit together in a marketplace. This is lesbian shipping fuel. 

The villain, likely Mario, has a sidekick named Icepick Joe. Joe commits a final act of heroism before being left for dead— after being killed by an Icepick. Perhaps he turned against Mario and was killed in retaliation?

Goncharov, played by DeNiro, has a very distinctive manner of walking. 

Katya’s brother, Valery, makes an appearance.

from posts I’ve witnessed (only mentioning things I’ve seen >5 blogs post about) - there is an Anchovies scene, and fish symbolism also plays a heavy role. at some point Katya is seen near a fish bowl full of goldfish, and this is important to the Boat Scene as well. - Goncharov and Andrey have homoerotic tension, and this is used to further statements about the cycle of repression and violence

There’s a Bridge Scene. This is the one with the clocktower chiming in the background.

There’s a scene involving a tank of anchovies.

Katya betrays Goncharov AND Sofia. She’s well-intentioned, but it all comes crashing down, ending in her losing them both— losing Sofia emotionally and inadvertently causing Goncharov’s death

There’s a shootout in Pompeii in which Mario destroys historically significant architecture. This is representative of the destructive nature of nationalism.

I hate this “no spoilers” culture that we live in right now. Producers and writers are so terrified of fans predicting the ending to their works to the point that they’re making nonsensical endings to their narratives. They’re messy, out-of-character, and outlandish, but, hey! at least they’re unpredictable!

Rian Johnson, The Last Jedi — completely ignored & disregarded the 3-film narrative arc J.J. Abrams has planned out for the sequel trilogy, and instead developed his own messy narrative full of subversions for the sake of subversion, and completely disrespected the legacy of Luke Skywalker’s character (Mark Hamill himself has reported several times that he doesn’t recognize the character).

Russos, MCU — give out fake scripts, actors play against green screens and are cut & pasted together in post, show fake/edited scenes in trailers, throw away previous character development (Thor, Ragnarok vs Infinity War and especially Endgame).

D&D, Game of Thrones — throw away a decade of foreshadowing and character development for shock value, not to mention they missed a whole ass Starbucks cup in a shot in 8x03 (either on set or in post, somebody should’ve noticed this).

I’m sick and tired of this. It’s not good writing, and it’s no longer entertaining to fans when the characters they know and love become complete strangers. There’s good shock value — “No, I am your father,” for example — and then there’s ignoring years of character development and turning a kind and caring character into a murderous maniac. There’s a difference, and I think writers still know what that difference is, but they’re pressured to create an ending that fans can’t predict because of this mass panic over “no spoilers”.

This needs to stop. Give me a happy ending. Who the fuck cares if we guess what comes next? That means the writers have done their fucking jobs. If we can guess what comes next that means the writers have successfully developed their characters and foreshadowed future events as you’re supposed to do in a well-written narrative.

No spoilers? Sure. I like to experience narratives without being spoiled. But don’t make the narrative unrecognizable by the ending. It’s just not good writing.

We don’t appreciate the fact that Bruce Wayne is a Kardasian level celebrity enough. Everyone knows him. I want more one shots and crack fic moments where the League (Pre identity reveals) just openly talk about Bruce Wayne in front of Batman.

Just imagine them playing fuck, marry, kill with famous actors and such and throwing Bruce into the mix. And Batman just sits there, silently suffering as he listens to the reasons why Flash and Lantern would marry, fuck, or kill him. He prays they choose kill. They don’t.

I read Hamlet back in high school and to this day my absolute favorite thing about it was when Guildenstern was trying to fool Hamlet into doing something or other and Hamlet’s savvy to it but rather than saying “you’re lying and trying to trick me” instead Hamlet outta nowhere whips out this flute and tells Guildenstern to play it.

I understand the appeal of wanting every adult hero to instinctively adopt teenage Peter Parker, but can it really beat the hilarity of acknowledging that at 15 Peter was 5'10", unusually buff, went by a moniker with Man in it, wore a creepy full face mask, and had a tightly guarded secret identity and probably a Queens accent thick enough to have come out of a jello mold, and adult heroes reasonably responded to him by going, “Wow, this grown man is an immature asshole for no reason.”

Way funnier to me than adult heroes finding out Peter is a teenager and becoming Concerned is the idea of adult heroes Retroactively finding out Peter Was a teenager because he admits to being like. 22 and they’re like “Hang on you’ve been doing this for like. Peter has a lot of feelings about the woman that discovered DNA and he strikes me as the kind of person that thinks that distancing yourself from notable figures of history by using their last names is stupid, so he’s going to say something like, “Rosalind worked so fucking hard to have that work snatched from her,” immediately followed by, “I woulda thumped him good,” and inspiring Tony and Banner to frantically look through the 1930s and 40s yearbooks at King’s College and theorize which one was Spider-Man. Captain America tries reminiscing about the good ole days with him. Peter, for his part, has been absently agreeing and making vague “I’m listening” noises about the Rolling Stones and Elton John for the majority of his life, so adding baseball, Duke Ellington, and Ella Fitzgerald to the list wasn’t that much of a stretch.

i don’t just mean what their favorite time period & subject is. i mean you can tell so much about a person based on how they treat that subject, and what information they prioritize vs what they find less interesting

take any subject. take war, for example, any war. there are so many types of war history nerds:

nerds who want to talk about weapons & watch war movies 

nerds who want to examine the historical significance of weapons advancement & analyze historical inaccuracies in war movies

nerds who are interested in the ethics of how weapons were used & misused, and the way civilian lives were impacted

nerds who are interested not in the weapons but in any of a thousand other aspects of war, like battlefield medicine, or the impact on scientific advancement, or the longterm sociopolitical repercussions, or the way societies recover & trauma lingers, and how cycles of violence & unrest repeat throughout history. 

nerds who are interested in the way everyday lives were impacted 

nerds who came for the guns & costumes and stayed bc they got invested in the stories 

nerds who want to hear about military life

nerds would rather hear about the actions of women and civilians and resistance members, and the way people fought outside of battlegrounds

nerds who want to hear about the clothes, my god, the clothing 

writers nerds who want to engage in a very specific fantasy of being a lesbian nurse in a battlefield hospital caring for a mysterious and tragically wounded young officer who wears men’s clothing and signed up for the army under their brother’s name, and now it’s up to their clever and sympathetic lesbian nurse to hide their identity from the doctors. 

espionage nerds who know everything about carrier pigeons

and that’s just war. and even among all those types of history nerds, they’re still going to individually have different relationships w/ the subject matter. and that’s not even getting into motivation! nerds have so many different motives for studying history. some people find historical minutiae fascinating or relaxing. some have a strong sense of injustice or excitement, or want to understand why the modern world is the way it is. some people like to indulge in nostalgia for an era that never really existed. and some people use history to fuel their rage and political leanings. 

sometimes these relationships are healthy, or maladaptive, or even toxic. it’s why you get so many angry white male history nerds with extremist views, but also so many women & poc & queer people who are equally fascinated with the same time period. and you just never know what type of nerd someone is until you meet them! anyways i’m a nerd about history nerds
