I’m convinced if ppl on this site knew how crappy gifs look before you color them properly, they would appreciate editors more
for context reasons, this is how a gif I used in a recent gifset looks like without any adjustments/coloring whatsoever:
and here it is afterwards:
I truly don’t think people realize how dingy and dark most movies and tv shows actually are so they can’t appreciate the work and skill it takes to make gifs look the way your brain “remembers” it looking.
Another before and after example:
This gif needed 6 different adjustment layers, not including the sharpening process, which is its own separate challenge. The blue window was also changed to green to keep the palette more consistent and to reduce the range of colors needed, because a wider range of colors generally results in worse gif quality since gifs only support a max of 256 (compared to the millions your monitor can display).
yeah…
I always see tags and captions for .GIFs with worlds like “edit” and “my edit” and wondered what edits were even done. Now I know!
GIF editors out here showing movie editors how to sort their shit out
So I’m at a library in a town I don’t live in to spend time with my nieces and I go to the bathroom and see this sign.
They turned their old card catalog into free supplies people can discretely take on their own.
This is the coolest thing ever, a great way to help people without making them ask, and an amazing reuse of a card catalog. I’m seriously about to cry I love it so much.
Tons more at the source!
full offense but none of you would have ever survived fanfiction.net in 2009
remember when writers had to be all like: “omg omg lemon starts HERE” y’all are lucky that ao3 has tags and filters you can set
Sometimes shit was marked “lemon” and it’d just be them making out, and sometimes they’d just start pissing on each other
No rules, no laws, you took your life into your hands opening fics

I wish i could do this without isolating myself completely :(
If you want to do this I can give you some advice: 1. Have two devices. First one should be a device that has internet access. Laptop, tablet, mobile, whatever you prefer and can budget, we know it’s usually a smartphone. Second one is a flip-phone or a jitterbug. Only purposes for the second device are: calling your grandma, calling the ambulance, calling your friend if they are late. 2. Choose when you want to use second device only. Try setting goal for yourself. Example goals may include: “I will not take my smartphone when I am hanging out with my best friend” or “I will leave my smartphone in the locker during class”. Set yourself a reasonable goal you can archive. If you cannot leave your internet-connected device try to turn it off. If you are not able to have two devices, leaving your smarthphone or turning it off might work too.
3. Manage time you spend using your smartphone. Try to limit number of apps you have. Keep least possible amount of chat apps you can (discord, messenger etc.) Try limiting social media apps you have on your phone (Instagram, TikTok, Reddit). 4. The best way to choose apps you want to keep is choosing only those that are useful (e-mail, notes etc.), help you connect (discord, slack), utility/hobby (very broad category but examples can include Duolingo, fitness apps, Spotify etc.). Decide which “general social media” apps you want to keep by deciding which ones spark joy and which ones are time suckers. Or make you feel bad.
5. If you have access to a computer, keep a habit of using it to visit social media on desktop. It reduces compulsion to check your phone.
6. Manage notifications. Make sure that your phone doesn’t wake you up just so you can doomscroll. REMEMBER: Ditching smartphones is not about coming back to the 90s. It’s about reducing harm that algorithms and social media can do to you.
Still collecting the full alphabet of the “live, laugh, love” variants if anyone has some good examples.
Bonus if they can fit the “We can’t ___, _____, ____ our way out of this.”
compilation of the comments’ best hits + some of mine own.
IDK who needs to hear this but if there’s something in your life that makes you feel better, but you never stick to it,
it’s still actually perfectly fine to do it
and you shouldn’t stop yourself from starting just because it won’t be a permanent change.
Like if starting a new daily planner gives you an amazing afternoon of planning and four days where you feel in charge of your life,
why not do it?
It doesn’t matter that it won’t be a permanent change - 4 good days is still worth it.
If you ever catch yourself thinking, “I wish I could pray/stretch/prep/plan/do the thing, but I always get started on that and it never lasts more than a couple of days,”
what this really means is, “hey, I can feel better for a couple of days.”
if this post is making you think of things in your own life that you wish you could stick to because of how good they make you feel,
just be aware:
you’re not thinking of a list of ways you’ve failed to commit
you’re thinking of a list of things that make you happy, and you should give yourself permission to start doing them as often as you want to
Okay I’m currently furious that migraines are often so blindly easy to treat and I had to find this out myself at the age of 26 when I’ve been to a neurologist since I was 11 lol so I’m about to teach you two neat and fast little tricks to deal with pain!
The first is the sternocleidomastoid muscle, or the SCM muscle.
This big red section is responsible for pain around the eye, cheekbone, and jaw, as well as some temple pain. Literally all you have to do is angle your head down a little, angle it away from the side that hurts, and then you can gently pinch and rub that muscle. I find it best to start at the bottom and travel upwards. The relief is so immediate! You can increase pressure as you feel comfortable doing so.
Here is a short and easy video showing this in action
The second is a fast and easy stretch that soothes your vagus nerve, which is the nerve responsible for calming you down. The vagus nerve, for those unfamiliar, is stimulated by deep breathing such as yawning, sighing, singing, or taking a deep breath to calm your anger in a tense situation.
You can stretch this out by sitting up as straight as possible (this does not have to be perfect to work) and interlacing your fingers. Put your hands on the back of your head with your thumbs going down the sides of your neck and, while keeping your face forward, look all the way to one side with just your eyes. Hold that until you feel the urge to breathe deeply or yawn, or until you can tell there’s a change. Then do the same thing on the other side. When you put your arms down, you should clearly be able to turn your head farther in both directions. If the first session doesn’t get rid of your migraine, rest and repeat as many times as necessary. I even get a little fancy with it and roll my eyes up and down along the outer edge sometimes to stretch as much as I can.
If you need a visual here’s a good video on it. I know some of the language they use seems questionable but this is real and simple science and should not be discarded because it’s been adopted by the trendy wellness crowd!
I seriously cannot believe I didn’t hear a word of this from any doctor in my life. Additionally, if you get frequent recurring migraines, you may want to see a dietician. Migraines can be caused by foods containing histamines, lectin, etc. and can also be caused by high blood pressure in specific situations such as exercise, stress, and even sex.
If any of this information helps you I’d love to hear it btw! It’s so so fast and easy to do. Good luck!
*currently suffering from a horrible migraine. Tries this*
Are you fucking shitting me it works!?
@thebibliosphere I don’t know if it’ll help, but it may be worth looking into.
This is something my magic physio man also taught me. It helps if your migraines are triggered by muscle tension. Not so much if you have other root causes like OP mentioned above.
Reblogging with @thebibliosphere very helpful recommendations from the tags.
Oh that’s not my tags. Those appear to be from @darkshrimpemotions!
Senpai says you’re welcome
Reblogging again because I just realized that if I had this advice in high school I would’ve never made a tumblr account.
Also works for most of those news sites like WSJ or NYT that only let you read a little bit, or block adblockers. Also some disable the scroll bar but if you go to the right side of the console after hitting F12 and look for the CSS element “overflow” and change it from “hidden” to “visible” then you can continue scrolling for free. Might have to click around on different parts of the page to find it, but it should work.
HELP
I was going to reblog this without comment, but I actually have to add that I've seen similar to the OP on relationship tiktok myself. Actual video and comments I saw (summarised, but the key words were used in the comments).
Video: "I met this guy and we instantly clicked and stayed up until 2am on our first date just talking. He's so easy to be myself with!"
Tiktoker: "Actually this is called lovebombing and narcissists do this to learn about all your weaknesses so they can manipulate and abuse you!"
Look no one is obligated to open up before they're ready, but a conversation wherein two people are comfortable sharing things about themselves is not lovebombing. Lovebombing has a specific definition that includes several steps, and a single conversation you enjoyed with someone you get on with well isn't it?!
I know a bunch of them are traumatised and projecting, but that doesn't make it ok. Turning normal/kind/happy experiences into single-step red flags just makes real red flags impossible to see. This trend makes me so uncomfortable.
Unrestrained summer fun 😁
