Today’s Doodle: Cathetosaurus lewisi

Closely related to the more familiar Camarasaurus, Cathetosaurus roamed what is now Portugal, Spain, and North America in the Late Jurassic. Here, Cathetosaurus has run out of low branches to munch and so has decided to push down an araucarian tree to gain easier access to the untouched top leaves. Voila! Instant buffet salad bar!

Seeing this was the last week of Jurassic June I decided to sketch a tribute of Gwangi for Ray Harryhausen, 29th of June would have been his 96th birthday, and on the 30th I made a tribute to Jurassic Park and the crossing over to Jeff July with the Malcolmosaurus Rex.

So I entered a contest for the Ray & Diana Harryhausen Foundation in May and didn’t think I stood a chance... Yesterday, on Rays 96th birthday, I was announced as the Winner!!! I feel so pleased and honored that the judges could see where I was coming from with my design and now this will be the foundations banner and logo for every Harryhausen event between now and 2020 to celebrate Rays 100th. Today, I woke up to find that my country had voted to leave the EU. While I support democracy, I am disappointed, angry, sad and frightened because of this. If Parliament follows through with the act that will officially separate Britain from the EU, I truly worry about our country’s future.

The EU protects human and employment rights, as well as free trade across member countries. Without these, I fear for what will become of this country’s law and economy: the Stirling Pound has already dropped in value to the lowest it’s been for three decades.

The saddest part about this, for me, is that MY generation…the youngest voters and those who will need to live with this decision the longest…voted in a majority that they wanted to STAY. The ones who wanted to leave the most? Those in the oldest voting age bracket.

This generation has to live with what has happened for far longer than our older voting counterparts will. I hope that someday people will see sense and that we can somehow mend this broken world we’ve been left with.
