im serious about this though. as an urban indian, i definitely cant speak on this as much as a rez indian could. but i know from talking to rez friends i have and from what the american indian movement has screamed for over the years that we need land we can grow on, we need clean water, we need to allow the wildlife that once lived in this land to live here again (meaning you need to listen to us before building those high speed rails you all get so hard over).

In detention centers across California, hundreds of immigrants, fearing for their lives, are begging to be released before COVID-19 sweeps through. Never Again Bay Area understands the extreme urgency of this situation: we must release all detainees and close these concentration camps before they become death camps. We need to bring attention to this NOW so Governor Newsom uses his emergency powers and influence to get everyone out of ICE detention before it’s too late. It’s only a matter of time before someone working at the detention center exposes everyone inside.

Tomorrow, we are holding a COVID-safe car-only rally; a rally at the ICE office and Civic Center Plaza to call on public officials to protect immigrants from this virus, for their own safety and for public health.We will be driving slowly and repeatedly around the block with signs in our windows while we honk our horns. Y’all have gotta bear in mind that while rent relief is absolutely important, so is mortgage relief. It’s not just a “what about the landlords?” thing; outside of the very largest cities, and especially in rural areas, it’s actually quite common for folks to own their primary residences even if they’re dirt poor – they just end up spending decades in crushing debt as a result. Like, “fuck the owning class” sounds good on paper, but not everybody who owns a house is functionally part of the owning class; a person with a shitty 1000-square-foot bungalow that hasn’t been renovated since 1977 and a thirty-year mortgage to show for it is not your enemy.
