gabe injecting himself into everybody’s songs is the best metaphor in the show. in this essay i will—
And the way it can mean so many things!
For Diana, it means that her grief is controlling her life.
For Dan, it means that his grief is there, even if he won't acknowledge it.
For Natalie, it means that she's used to making herself small and secondary in her own life.
You MEME, miette?
You meme her image, like the football?!
I've come to realise that whenever I experience a traumatic event, my paranoia of people increases tenfold. I get extremely paranoid that everyone hates me or that no one actually cares about me at all, that they think I'm a terrible person and that they would all be better off if I didn't exist. All of the trauma-related fears I hold increase exponentially to such a severe degree when I'm experiencing more trauma and it's so exhausting and difficult trying to discern what's real from what isn't.

As a journalist and a creative, I don't even bother to keep track of all the times STEM majors belittle these fields, and I roll my eyes at them. (Eight years out of college, and I'm still seeing youngins from uni complain about how easy we supposedly have it. Good grief.)
I hope more of them understand—because there are those who do, and I'm blessed to be friends with a number of them—that when they struggle to get funding for research or convince family that climate change is real or vaccines are safe and important, it's because something wasn't communicated in a way that empathizes with worldviews that are incompatible with fact; or because there is a psychological bridge that facts cannot cross without an understanding of how that bridge was built; or maybe just because it isn't compelling enough.
(Edit to add that of course, when scaled to the institutional level, there are many other political and economic forces at play that individual perspectives on the arts can't fix. But institutions aren't built on nothing, and they sure aren't going to be revolutionized by a disjointed mass where one group argues superiority over the other because we do numbers and you don't!)
Arts, humanities, and social science majors are your allies. Don't push us away.
my mom told me that credit card interest paid used to be tax deductible and i looked this up because it sounded totally bananas to me but apparently this used to be the case until 1986. what sort of fantasy world were baby boomers living in
Reblogging for the Reagan meme because as a Filipino, I have deep personal beef with that man.
This disability pride month can we be mad that Israel has made it so more than ten children a day lose a limb in Gaza? Can we be mad that there isn't a single fully functioning general hospital in Gaza, thanks to the Israeli army's bombings? Can we be mad that there are disabled people in Palestine who don't have access to the care they need? Can we be mad that there are disabled people in Gaza that are dying due to the lack of medicine and doctors? Can we be mad that Israel tried to give Palestine near expired COVID vaccines and then acted like they did something? Can we be mad?!
What Do I and my Family in Gaza Matter Anyway?!
The heartwarming solidarity we Gazans get in such difficult times is medicine for our sick broken hearts. Do NOT underestimate the positive influence of your gestures of kindness and hearty good wishes that you offer Gazans during this genocidal war.
In pursuing our inherent rights to freedom, dignity, self-determination, and sovereignty, we need every gesture of support from the free world. Please, choose to be on the right side of history. Choose to stand with the helpless victimized people living in the harshest conditions imaginable in the biggest open-air prison in the world: Gaza.
I spent four months of the war in Gaza before I was evacuated alone leaving my family behind to face the scary unknown. I know very well how hellish the life my family and all Gazans are living. For me, the most difficult time of the day during the four months was the scary thoughts I had before drifting off. Thoughts about ending up as lifeless corpses under the rubble the next morning. The possibility that it might be the last time I shut my eyes for sleep. It happened to thousands of people in Gaza, and if it were to happen to us, that wouldn't change the course of the universe! What do I and my family matter ANYWAY?!

“Roy.” He looks up to find her eyes filled with anxiety. Roy knows right away that the quiver in her voice isn’t there only because of disuse. She hesitates for a long moment. “I have a favor to ask of you.”
Roy takes a seat beside her, papers still in hand. “Tell me.”
Riza stares at the papers intently, lips fixed in a hard line. Roy can see the silent battle raging in her head as she steels herself to speak. Suddenly, it occurs to him that this isn’t the first time he has found her struggling with a secret since they reunited in this house. The memory of their argument in the kitchen swims to the front of his mind, and a small voice inside him suggests that she isn’t burdened only by the secret itself, but by the choice of trusting him.
The idea of something so heavy, so important seems to weigh down his chest, but he waits.
Smoke Without Fire is back from slumber! 💖

While we continue to donate to personal evacuation funds, I think it is crucial to keep in mind that these individuals as well as millions more in Gaza are currently actively in need of basic necessities like food, water, shelter, and medical care. Keeping this in mind, and recognising that there is no way to know when the border crossing with Egypt will reopen, I think our attention should also be on raising funds for organisations currently on the ground who will have the widest impact on the lives of Palestinians who are still enduring the genocide in Gaza.
Below are some verified donation links of organisations that are currently providing assistance for the people in Gaza directly:
Food, water, and shelter
Taawon has launched a campaign to provide support in Gaza through food parcels, shopping vouchers, fresh produce, water bottles and shelter tents.
Watermelon Relief is a project initiated and implemented by a group of activists in Gaza, who work to provide aid to displaced families in Gaza through meals, support and activities.
World Food Programme (WFP) managed to provide assistance to more than 1 million people in Gaza in May by delivering food in shelters, makeshift camps and shops.
Life for Gaza is an initiative through which the Municipality of Gaza aims to provide basic necessities for the people of Gaza such as water projects, waste collection and the reconstruction of roads.
Arab Group for the Protection of Nature (APN) is working to plant farmlands in Gaza through their "Revive Gaza Farmlands" project, through which they had already started planting vegetables, fruits and leafy greens in Gaza.
Purchasing eSIMs is one of the only remaining ways to keep Gazans connected with the outside world, to get their stories out or even enable them to call for help after Israeli strikes.
The Sameer Project is a donation based aid initiative that provides tents, cash aid, diapers and formula for displaced families in Gaza.
Care For Gaza is an organisation that works to provide essential aid such as food packages and cash to deliver to displaced families in Gaza.
Palestine Children's Relief Fund, through their "Gaza Relief and Recovery" campaign, plan to provide essential medical supplies and treatments, as well as food and clean water.
The UNRWA has an Emergency Appeal for Gaza, where donations will provide families in Gaza with lifesaving food and water, winter kits and to repair UNRWA shelters.
Mutual Aid for the People of Gaza is a fundraiser managed by Mona in Gaza, who personally purchases and distributes basic supplies including food parcels to families in Gaza.
Help Gaza Children is another grassroots effort operating on the ground in Gaza to support families with food, water and clothing.
Medical care
Palestinian Red Crescent has been on the ground in Palestine since 1968 as part of the Red Cross & Crescent movement. They have had a continuous presence on the ground in Gaza as the main source of medical care and assistance.
Medical Aid for Palestine (MAP) provides medical supplies and supports healthcare services in Gaza.
Doctors Without Borders (MSF) provide medical and humanitarian aid in Palestine and have had their teams on the ground operating from MSF-supported health facilities across Gaza.
Gaza Wound Care is a medical team in a tent in Nuseirat, providing care to children and supporting pregnant women.
Children Not Numbers is an NGO dedicated to providing medical care for the children in Gaza including delivery of medical aid and medical evacuation for children.
Hello! Can I recommend the charity Al-Nasser Charitable?
The organization is run by Ibrahim Abu Raida, a young Palestinian father who has worked tirelessly to provide aid to displaced people in Gaza, despite his family being displaced themselves. A video of his infant son celebrating his birthday went viral, though it was frequently shared without credit or with no mention of his work or evac fund. I would be extremely grateful if you could share his fundraiser 🙏

This is a collection of links to various posts concerning fundraisers I've vetted and instructions on how to submit fundraisers to me. These are primarily ones for Ghazzan families although some fundraisers for Sudanese families are also listed (I'm more familiar with my own country's politics and dialect and am more capable of vetting fundraisers for Palestinians as a result). Each post will have a time stamp indicating the latest date of update. And fundraisers will have colour-coded disclaimers according to the particularities of their case.
I know that people do not like clicking on links or navigating between posts, but please actually look through these posts and choose a fundraiser to donate to. Please.

sending love and encouragement to people who may be without a support system for the time being. you still matter and are still lovable. i’m hoping the people who are meant to be in your life find you soon.
holding yourself accountable and tearing yourself down are two different things
how to do it (asking seriously)
be aware of what you’ve done wrong. forgive yourself and learn from it rather than beating yourself up over it and thinking it’s just a part of you that can’t be changed. know that you can’t go back and undo it but also that in the future you can do better and not repeat the same regret. self hatred stemming from regret is hard to control, but it can be managed with patience and practice.
Made Adolfo watch one of my all time favorite anime series, Fullmetal Alchemist, since he has never seen it (the original or Brotherhood). We just finished all of FMA Brotherhood and damn that show still amazes me. So I just had to draw up the fierce Roy Mustang, one of my many favorite characters from that series. If you haven’t seen Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood, just watch it, it’s on Netflix…you have no excuse. #Fullmetal #fullmetalalchemist #fullmetalalchemistbrotherhood #roy #roymustang #flamealchemist #copic #ink #pen #moleskin #sketch #sketchbook #nikkiabregoart #DatArtistLife #anime
Cant stop thinking about how Roy is portrayed in official illustrations cause like
On the one hand you got Studio Bones' with this absolute manwhore and in the other you got Arakawa's little dude brooding/trying to look cool and mysterious

I was in the fifth grade when I started writing fanfic. Fushigi Yuugi, four chapters to a spiral notebook, but that's not relevant to this post.
What is relevant is that I wrote about a daughter who turned against her parents because they kept a secret from her. The story came to a point where the parents resolved to tell their daughter the full truth, only to realize that "not always can truth sway or bend".
And I swear I had no idea what the hell I was writing about back then—eleven-year-old me was just trying to be poetic—but it's kept coming back to me. I constantly think of how it isn't enough that the truth is out there, plain as day, and people will still tune in to propaganda disguised as credible news because it aligns with their beliefs, or because it was what they were told first.
I think of how easy it is to spread lies, and how much harder it is to correct them with the truth, their exact opposite, no matter how much proof or earnestness is shown
Eleven-year-old me was onto something.
