Guy who has a non-research degree in a field that never studies human subjects: Here are my opinions on what needs to be done for me to respect this field I've decided to become a denier of.

[Extreme breach of scientific ethics]

[Violent abuse of power]

[Method that actually doesn't obtain any information]

[Controlled double-blind studies of phenomena where that is literally impossible]

[Seeking empirical proof that a word has the meaning that it's defined as]

[Study that would have a dropoff rate of 100%]

Additionally, how do we know that [best currently available theory] is true, and not [dominant theory from 100 years ago that repeatedly failed in the face of evidence]? I have found some minor methodological flaws in [studies that were not designed to prove the best available theory, but rather examine edge cases within that theory], so we should really consider [nonsense with no evidence backing it whatsoever].

Hey Tumblr, there's a new historical/period comedy series on Netflix which you will love! It's called 1670! It's about Polish nobility and their peasant-thralls. However, Netflix is not promoting it to international audiences, bc it's Polish, even though there are subtitles available in so many languages!

Seriously, give it a watch bc I'd hate to see only my Polish mutuals watch it, it's new, it's fresh, it's witty, not another remake, and it shows another culture & history! (aren't you tired of watching yet another show on the English monarchy, then 1670 is there for ya)

The thing that pisses me off about the Emily Armstrong discourse is how blatant people are about cherry-picking facts. Talking about how it's betraying Chester's memory because the cult abuses children born into it while ignoring the fact that...emily was a child born into it. talking about how horrible the cult is to people who openly speak out against them, especially people with family still in the cult, and then getting mad at emily for not speaking openly about them while she has family in the cult. like it's all in such bad faith.

the cult is directly intolerant of homosexuality. emily is an out lesbian. we have no idea what's going on behind closed doors and i for one am inclined to give victims the benefit of the doubt. and make no mistake anyone raised in a cult against their will is a victim.

over the years i've met both current and former members of a different cult (one of whom left specifically because she was gay) who were born into it and it's just really sad. i bear no ill will towards any of them, even those who told me to my face they oppose people like me.

i don't know what emily actually believes. none of us do. all i know is that i believe in compassion for victims of abuse and the possibility of recovery for those raised to be indoctrinated. that's always been my stance and it always will be.
