How they would handle Thanksgiving dinner drama!
Happy most stressful time of the year!
He’s the quiet observer. He loves to watch the drama and tension without being IN it.
The second you get dragged into something tho?? Not so fun anymore
He’s on edge, but he will follow your lead. If it’s a debate that involves science, he WILL butt in.
If someone pisses you off or insults you too badly, he’s going to grab your hand and give you a look to let you know he’s with you if you want to leave
“I’ve been doing research on how GABA-based medications can aid in alleviating anxiety.”
“You kids nowadays are so soft. There’s no such thing as anxiety. You gotta get out of your head. Why are you even wasting time with that stuff? I thought you wanted to be a doctor.”
You just stared at your uncle. Every year, your parents told you to not engage. It was easier when you were younger, dodging topics that would cause sparks. Now, there were questions and expectations.
Lingering thoughts of how you were supposed to end up. Value placed in not your happiness but in what they expect of you. It bothered you deep down, but now, it was about playing the game that is talking to your family.
“There’s actually substantial evidence supporting the existence of anxiety. Not to mention, doctors can’t do shit without researchers doing their part.”
You whipped your head to the man next to you. He had been quiet, now gently running his thumb across your knuckles.
“I’m not ready to believe that.”
“It’s not for you to believe. It’s just facts.”
Tensions were rising. Your uncle clearly did not like that. As much as you appreciated Senku, it was time to intervene.
“Anyway, how are your kids? I wish they could have joined us.”
“They’re actually doing things with their lives, unlike you nerds.”
That was just uncalled for. He was clearly pissed beyond repair. You were about to be there too. He was pissing you OFF. Your brows furrowed, mouth opening to spit something back.
You felt a tug at your hand. You looked over to see Senku giving you a look. You took a deep breath and squeezed back.
“We’re going to go take a walk”
He’s loud and he talks a lot, so there’s no avoiding getting involved.
He will DEFEND your honor!! Your fights are his battles too!
He will be the one to say OUT LOUD “do you want to leave?”
Depending on how bad it is, he will just take you out to dinner instead
“Y/N! How did you pull this guy? He’s so funny!”
It was backhanded. You normally wouldn’t let a single comment bother you like this, but your cousin had been making jabs at you all day. Between old, embellished, and humiliating stories and comparative comments, it started to weigh on you.
Your smile, hiding your internal annoyance. You just wanted to snap, but that wasn’t an option. You could make it through.
“I’m hardly anything special. Our Y/N is the real catch, am I wrong?”
His radiant smile somehow made every bleak moment shine. It made you smile a little. Knowing how much he loved you. Seeing how willing he was to express it.
“Our Y/N is barely the bait. I wouldn’t exactly call them a catch.”
That was just rude. At this point, it was blatant. You sighed deeply, rubbing your temples.
“Y/N is the epitome of anything a man could desire. Your implications up to this point are were rude, but directly accusing them of being anything but desirable, is flat-out inappropriate. You should learn to treat your family better than that. Especially, when you’re lucky enough to have someone like Y/N.”
You couldn’t help but smile. You had to look at your lap to hide your amusement. The sight of your boyfriend defending you made your heart flutter. You felt Ryusui’s arm slip around your shoulders as he leaned into you.
“Let me know if you’d like to leave, my treasure.”
Oh he’s thriving… he started it, let’s just be real.
This man is starting drama left and right. Between others and with himself
HOWEVER, if you get dragged into it, he stops just teasing and completely demolishes the other person all while maintaining his composure. He does not care if they’re your family! They insulted you!
“Oh? I didn’t realize you were a quitter!”
When it had come time for your annual family card game, you didn’t think Gen would take it that seriously. But, after winning one too many games, some family was getting a bit upset.
Gen didn’t seem to mind. He was thriving, poking fun at your uncle, whose masculinity seemed to be in question after not winning a single game. Your uncle, however, didn’t seem as unbothered. He practically had steam coming out of his ears.
“Why don’t we take this out back, little boy?”
Gen threw his hands up in innocence.
“I’m a lover, not a fighter.”
He looked over at you, winking as he spoke. This only fueled the fire.
“Stop flirting with that whore, and-“
“Excuse you. Who are you calling a whore? You called your girlfriend by the wrong name earlier.”
Your uncle turned bright red, stuttering and tripping over his own words.
“Oh, and was that your ex I heard you on the phone with earlier? She sounded lovely.”
You couldn’t help but smile, shock turning to pride. You grabbed his hand, giving it a squeeze.
He’s so sweet, he tries to mediate if it doesn’t involve you
If it does, he gets up and drags you out. No words exchanged
He doesn’t think it’s even worth either of your times to engage with that childish behavior
Your aunt was famous for her desserts. Every year throughout your childhood, she would bring the classics. Since becoming an adult with your own life, you had also picked up baking. Just not in the same way.
You had basic recipes, yes, but you didn’t stick to them. You were unconventional, but so talented. You had been perfecting a pecan pie recipe for months. Having Ukyo taste test.
Ukyo was sitting in the living room, watching the Thanksgiving games. The open layout of your grandparents house allowed you to make sure he never felt uncomfortable while also being able to socialize.
“Y/N, why haven’t you gotten a ring yet?”
You had been watching your beloved boyfriend patiently listening to your grandpa as he told him the same old stories. Your aunt brought you back to the conversation. The other members looking anywhere but at you.
“Well, you must be doing something wrong. It’s probably your cooking.”
“Yea, you brought that pie, right? The flavors were all off, the crust looks amateur, and not to mention it was dry!”
Your heart was breaking with every word. You had poured so much into that dessert. You wanted to contribute to the festivities. And to hear this from the very woman that inspired you hurt.
You went to set down your fork and plate, embarrassed to even have the pie around you. It felt foolish.
That is, until a hand pulled yours towards his mouth, eating the bite of pie.
“It tastes wonderful, babe.”
He took the plate from your hands and set it down on a nearby surface, arm curling around your shoulders.
“Let’s get out of here. I was thinking we could go get your ring sized. For reference.”
Cool, calm, and collected. This man usually wouldn’t get involved.
He will destroy anyone who insults you.
Unlike Gen, it’s not many jabs, it’s one big comment that shuts everyone up
They know not to mess with you anymore
“Is that your third plate?”
Your mouth was full. You didn’t even realize what your aunt had said when you answered. It was so out of bounds, you didn’t even know what to say back.
“Isn’t that your third husband?”
You nearly choked on your food. Your cousin snorted from the other end of the table. Tsukasa had hardly said anything all day. This was his first time meeting most of your family. He wanted to make a good impression. He stayed out of the political discussions, made all the right comments about the food, and even said the right things about your family’s preferred football team.
Your aunt was livid. She huffed before speaking to someone else. She continued on like you two didn’t exist. Your cousin gave you a look, quiet amusement all around.
You grabbed Tsukasa’s hand, intertwining your fingers. He smiled at you, offering you a bite of something.
He only wanted to go for you, so drama starting is his worst nightmare
LOCKS TF IN IF YOU GET INSULTED
Probably spouts some really smart insult that no one understands before offering you his hand. He’s prepared to walk out if that’s what you want
Who actually likes their dad’s side of the family? Your uncle was currently arguing with your dad. It started as some off handed comment turned full on presidential debate. You could see Sai practically shrinking into his chair.
You leaned over, whispering something in his ear, telling him not to worry too much.
“Well, at least my kid has a job! How many times has Y/N changed their major? What? Are they going to be in school for the rest of their life?”
You were only half paying attention until you heard your name. Suddenly all eyes were on you. How did you catch a stray?
“I guess the probability of meeting a total idiot is low but never zero.”
Sai had straightened his posture, arm slithering around your waist. He pulled your chair closer to his.
“What’d you say? Who even is this guy?”
“I’m your extremely smart and talented niece’s lucky boyfriend. And I said the village is calling. They want their idiot back.”
You leaned into him, placing your head on his chest. You could hear his heart beating faster than ever.
Author’s Note: someone save me bruh. I never thought I’d want to go back to school. Anyway, this was fun, I salute all the drama warriors
