For when people say they’re sick of seeing gay stuff everywhere. Suck it up. 4 years. 4 years. And that’s just on the books, it’s legal. It doesn’t stop shitty attitudes, actions, or straight up violence.
This is just the timeline for homosexuality. As of today (July 2019) you can still be fired for being transgender in 26 of the 50 states. You can be evicted for being transgender in 31 of the 50 states. The Stonewall Uprising was started to protect a transwoman being arrested, and more than 140 transwomen have been murdered since 2013.
Two men or two women being able to get married is not the only basis for LGBT+ rights.

I know it’s kind of suggesting it but this is exactly why businessmen (people) should not be politicians. Running a country is to benefit the people running a business is to benefit shareholders. Their “skills” are not interchangeable
Framing the USPS as a poor business rather than a public service is propaganda.
next people are going to ask how much roads loose the cost of roads is more then offset when you realize how fucked we would all be without them because all industry requires them to exist and be maintained the cost of the mail makes sense the more you think about how fucked we would be if it were gone beyond ‘lol, ill just use fedex’ without realizing that fedex is the one who wants the post office dead and then they can charge whatever the fuck they want because, what else are you gonna do? walk it there in person? the post office is more then just bills and letters to relatives you dont care about, its required for our society to function
i was saying the military loses billions every year
Thanks, tumblr mobile, for unintentionally making this even funnier
Just as I said, “is this ever going to load?” One gif loaded and honestly it answered my question perfectly.
Together they create the full set.

idrc what your politics are or what activism youre doing or whatever in the rest of your life, if youre unkind to children, you arent a good person. end of discussion.
"i hate snot nosed brats bc people have been trying to force me to want to have them my whole life" you are projecting your anger about societal issues onto innocent children. these kids have not done a single thing to you. you owe them the same respect you do any other person and you owe them kindness and patience as they learn about the world.
being a kid is hard. the least you can do is make that easier and teach them the kindness that they'll have to learn to seek from the world.
teach them that this world is not inherently cruel. even a small interaction can teach them a little bit of something bc kids are like sponges.
this also shouldnt have to be said but: you never know what a childs home life is like. you never know what they could be struggling with. do you want to be responsible for pushing more hurt onto an already hurting person who hasnt done anything wrong?
They are just humans who are new here
You can only take of others if you take care of yourself first.
It’s okay to say no.
Food, sleep and activity are a necessary foundation to build your healing on.
It’s okay to ask for help.
Bad days are part of the process.
You overestimate what you achieve in a short time and underestimate how much you can get better in a long time. Healing takes time.
Let yourself make mistakes. Be messy if you feel the need to.
The people in your life will change. Not everyone comes on the journey. You can’t change anyone no matter what. Boundaries are critical for self care. Setting boundaries will hurt when you first start. Rescuing your inner child can’t be skipped, you have to go back to move forward. You’ll find more joy. You’ll love yourself.
Lil Nas X does what people think Harry Styles does
Regardless of whether or no Harry Styles is queer which is what everyone seems to be fighting about, there’s no question that he’s very vague about it. That’s absolutely fine. It’s gross to push people to come out to justify their actions, even celebrities.
But Harry Styles gets so much praise and gets viewed as a queer icon by many for for being slightly gender nonconforming or even vaguely non-cishet.
Lil Nas X is openly gay Black person who is actually breaking the barriers in a cishet dominated industry. He is absolutely, fucking unapologetically queer and throwing it in everyone’s faces in the best possible way and still an industry leader.
So whether or not Harry Styles is queer, he cannot compare to Lil Nas X when it comes to breaking barriers as a queer person.

man the Appalachian mountains really aren’t shit huh
The Rockies are new, young and virile and fresh from the Laramide orogeny, tall and lanky teenagers on the geological scale. the Appalachian mountains are old, formed hundreds of millions of years ago before dinosaurs walked the Earth. They are ancients, elders, witnesses to half a billion years of life coming and going. To be tall is not a virtue. To be small is not a sin. The Appalachians are eroding under the weight of time, slowly shrinking and returning to the Earth from which they sprang. Appreciate them while they are still here.
I do want to say real quick again about the age of the Appalachians…
They said “before dinosaurs,” but we have a cave here that began forming between 450 million to 550 million years ago.
There are no bones in that cave. No fossils. No nothing.
That’s because this cave began forming before bones existed on land, and had only just started to exist in the ocean. Shellfish hadn’t evolved yet. Limestone, which forms many caves, was just starting to become a more prevalent rock.
The mountains aren’t older than dinosaurs. They are older than bones.
see that little lump up at the top of minnesota? the sawtooth mountains? so small most places would just call them hills?
those are over a billion years old.
that’s why they’re so small. they’re the last ancient remnants of a lava flow 5 miles thick. the lava didn’t kill any dinosaurs. or any fish. or any animals at all. because there were no animals. you know what there was?
algae.
those mountains were 5 miles tall when the most advanced life on earth was algae.
so i’m just gonna go ahead and keep calling them mountains, even though all you need to climb them is hiking shoes and a nice afternoon. because a place where you can crouch down and touch basalt that was lava before leaves were invented deserves some respect.
The earth is unfathomably ancient, and you garner no love from her when you insult her eldest children.
not only that, the Appalachians predate the Atlantic Ocean and were fragmented. they stretch across three continents, as Atlas in Africa and Caledonians in Europe as you can see here:
the Appalachians are way way old. the fossils that ARE found in these ranges are ancient marine beings, whose fossil remains predate the anatomical structures of beings migrating to land for the first time. THAT’S how old the Appalachians are.
show the elders some respect, they have witnessed eons and are returning to the land from which they grew, it’s the kind of the passage of time on a scale that our human lives could not even begin to comprehend.
Fun dyspraxia moment of the day: smacking a towel into the corner of my eye whilst trying to dry off.

Cute right?
That right there is a red panda.
They're adorable.
Let's talk about them for a second.
Red pandas live in the eastern Himalayas and southwest China.
They've got fluffy tails, and like roaming about on trees, usually alone.
They're about as big as a cat. So there much smaller than the all time famous giant pandas.
They usually eat bamboo and fruits, and tend to sometimes eat small lizards, insects and birds eggs.
They were discovered 50 years before the giant pandas
When they're threatened, or cornered, they tend to stand up to look more threatening
.... Yeah. Threatening.
BUT
It's not all fun and giggles
They're endangered.
They're on the IUCN red list, with an estimated fewer than 10000 individual pandas. And declining.
causes of them dying out are due to habitat loss, poaching, inbreeding depression.

I’m laughing, but there’s a super useful corollary, which my husband calls “the Red Balloon.” He was a defense lawyer and had a fair number of drug addicts come through, and there is a thing where if you’re like, on your first offense, they’ll do a thing where you can go to treatment and if you complete it they’ll take the conviction off your record. And he would tell his clients, “Look, everyone’s going to tell you not to do drugs. They’re going to say it over and over again. And it’s like, if people tell you not to think of a white elephant, you’re going to think of a white elephant. But the trick to not thinking about a white elephant is to think of a red balloon. So you need to find your red balloon. For some people it’s yoga. For others it’s woodworking. For some people it’s scrapbooking or gardening or any of a long list of things to do. They focus on that, it’s a lot easier to succeed in ignoring the white elephant.” So yeah, “watch yourself” is one thing… but the better idea is to watch something else. (Even if it’s fanfic about werewolves fucking.)
It’s a form of productive dissociation, and is super, super helpful. It’s easy for me to get bogged down in how much pain I’m in… but some of the most painful periods of my life have also been the most productive, writing-wise, because writing is one of my red balloons.
There is a phrase I use A LOT in my parenting and my son gets very sick of it, but it’s true:
The thing you practise is the thing you get good at.
You may not intentionally be practicing “being grumpy” but if you don’t put effort into practicing “not being grumpy” then I’m afraid that’s what you’re doing. It’s hard! It’s really hard! Sometimes, for some things, it’s pretty much impossible and that sucks!
But being carefully aware that you are going to get good at the things you do most of is a good way to be more careful of what those things are. If that makes sense.
You gotta appreciate sometimes how tumblr works in such a way that everyone who wants to reblog this interesting or useful psychological advice is also forced to reblog the thing about werewolf fucking
